Poetic Translation in English
As the ray disappears in the Sun,
As the drop of water mixes with water,
A light dissolves in Light
And comes to be consummated.
It is the Lord God we see.
The Lord God we hear.
It is He alone we have for discourse.
The Creator who is all over.
There is none other than the Lord God.
Himself He gives and receives Himself.
He is the cause of all happenings.
Says Nanak, only they realize it fine,
Who has tasted the Elixir Divine. (4).2
Punjabi-English Translation
ਸੂਰਜ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਲ ਕਾ ਜਲੁ ਹੂਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
As the ray blends with the Sun and water becomes water,
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲੀ ਸੰਪੂਰਨੁ ਥੀਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
so merges the human light in the Supreme Light and becomes perfect.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥
Now I see the Lord, hear of the Lord, and narrate but the One Lord.
ਆਤਮ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
The Supreme Soul is the Creator of the world Without the Lord, I know no other.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
The Lord Himself is the Creator and Himself the Enjoyer. He Himself has made the universe.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ॥੪॥੨॥
Prays Nanak, they alone understand this mystery, who quaff the Lord's elixir.

सूरज किरण मिले जल का जल हूआ राम ॥
जैसे सूर्य की किरण सूर्य में मिल जाती है और जल का जल में मेल हो जाता है,
जोती जोत रली सम्पूर्ण थीआ राम ॥
वैसे ही आत्मज्योति परमज्योति में मिल गई है और जीव रुपी अंश सम्पूर्ण हो गया है।
ब्रह्म दीसै ब्रह्म सुणीऐ एक एक वखाणीऐ ॥
जो कुछ दिखाई एवं सुनाई दे रहा है, वह ब्रह्म ही है और ब्रह्म का ही बखान हो रहा है।
आत्म पसारा करणहारा प्रभ बिना नही जाणीऐ ॥
रचयिता ने स्वयं ही परमज्योति का प्रसार किया हुआ है और प्रभु के बिना कुछ भी नहीं जाना जाता।
आपि करता आप भुगता आप कारण कीया॥
वह स्वयं ही कर्ता है, स्वयं ही भोक्ता है और उसने स्वयं ही यह संसार बनाया है।
बिनवंत नानक सेई जाणह जिन्ही हरि रस पीया॥४॥२॥
नानक विनती करते हैं कि इस तथ्य को वही जानता है, जिसने हरि-रस का पान किया ॥४॥२॥
What is meaning of Suraj Kiran Mile?
Just as the rays of the sun merge with the source (sun) and water mingles with the waters of the ocean), I also got united with the Lord, by merging my soul with the Prime-soul, and became perfect having attained salvation. (When the rays of the sun fall on snow, it melts and becomes water, without any distinction between the two). Thus whatever we see or hear is only an embodiment of the Lord and wherever we look around, we perceive the same Lord pervading everywhere.
Thus we do not perceive or realize anything else except the Lord, who has created this universe enacting His worldly drama. (everything around appears as an embodiment of the prime soul only). Thus we could realize the Truth that the Lord is the cause and effect of everything happening in the world. Himself being the creator, He Himself enjoys the fruits of His own actions in the form of the human being). O Nanak! This whole secret (drama) of the Lord is appreciated and realized by the person, who has partaken in the nectar of the True Name of the Lord. (who has worshipped the Lord) (4-2)
