English Translation

Raag Suhi Mahala 5th Chhant Ik Onkar Satgur Prasad ( Mith Bolra Ji Har Sajan Swami Mera... )

"By the Grace of the Lord-sublime, Truth personified & attainable through the Guru's guidance."
My beloved Lord is always soft-spoken with a sweet language, in fact, I am (tired of) constantly watching Him speak but He never speaks crude language. The perfect Lord never speaks a crude or unsavoury language, and He never keeps an account of the flaws or shortcomings of His devotees. Moreover, the Lord never discredits us, keeping full note of our efforts and hard labour at reciting True Name as such He is known as the purifier of the sinners (like us) being an embodiment of (principle) Truth.

O Nanak! The Lord pervades all human beings and prevails all over the world and is closest to us (being within us). I have always sought refuge at His lotus feet as He is my beloved friend, sweeter than nectar, and makes us immortal. (1)

O Brother! I am wonder-struck by having a glimpse of the True Master, as the Lord-spouse is extremely beautiful whereas I am not worth the dust of His holy-feet even. I feel thrilled and alive by perceiving my Lord and I get peace and tranquillity of mind. Moreover, there is no other power as great or even equal to Him. The Lord is ever-existent, being in position at the beginning of time, during various ages and even in the end and is pervading everywhere including all lands, oceans, earth and the sky.

O Nanak! We could cross this ocean of life successfully by inculcating His love in the heart and by reciting the True Name through His Grace have attain salvation. O Perfect Lord! There is no end to the extent (limits) of Your Greatness and vastness, whereas I have sought Your support only, so kindly protect my honour. (2)

O Brother! I cannot forsake the Lord or be away from the Lord for a moment even as the Guru has enlightened me with the Greatness of the limitless and unapproachable Lord. I attained the nectar of True Name from the Guru, when I approached Him through the company of the holy saints, with complete self-surrender, as such all the ills and afflictions of the cycle of births and deaths have been cast away. Now I have enjoyed the peace and bliss of life by getting rid of my egoistic tendencies. O Nanak! My True Lord is pervading within and without the various beings and His presence (existence) is above all sorts of joy, sorrow, and suffering and completely aloof and distinct from all others. I have sought refuge at the lotus feet of the beloved Lord, who is my mainstay in life. (3)

O dear friend! I have attained the beloved Lord, who is ever-existent and established in one position and have found Him after wandering all over the world. I have realized that all other worldly possessions or things are perishable, so I have inculcated the love of the lotus feet of the Lord in my heart. The True Master is ever-existent and I belong to Him being even now His slave, while He is not subjected to the cycle of Rebirths. The Lord is full (replete with) of all virtues like dharma, Kam, arth and moksha (duty, wealth, pleasure and salvation) and we fulfil all our worldly desires in no time (as we think about it).

O Nanak ! Even the Vedas, Shastras and Smritis (and surtis) also sing His praises and all the sidhas, sadiks (mendicants) Munis and other devotees have recited His True Name. The fortunate Guru-minded persons, pre-destined by the Lord's Will, have sung the (Lord's) praises by reciting True Name of the Lord, the ocean of bliss and Grace. (4-1-11)

ਪੂਜਯ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਰਤਾਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭ, ਉਸ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਕਾਉੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ॥ ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਰੁੱਖਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਭੋਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਓਹਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ ॥ ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

राग सूही, पंचम महल, छंद:

एक सार्वभौमिक निर्माता भगवान जिसे पाया जाता है सच्चे गुरु की कृपा से।

मेरे प्रिय प्रभु और स्वामी, मेरे मित्र, बहुत मधुर बोलते हैं। मैं उसे परखते-परखते थक गया हूं, लेकिन फिर भी वह मुझसे कभी कठोरता से बात नहीं करता। वह कोई कटु वचन नहीं जानता; पूर्ण प्रभु भगवान मेरे दोषों व अवगुणों पर विचार भी नहीं करते। यह पापियों को शुद्ध करने का प्रभु का स्वाभाविक तरीका है; वह सेवा में रत्ती भर भी अनदेखी नहीं करते। वह प्रत्येक हृदय में निवास करता है, सर्वत्र व्याप्त है; वह निकट में भी निकटतम है। दास नानक हमेशा के लिए प्रभु की छत्रछाया माँगता है; प्रभु मेरा अमृतमय मित्र है। ||1||

मैं भगवान के दर्शन के अतुलनीय धन्य दर्शन को देखकर आश्चर्यचकित हो गया हूं। मेरे प्रिय भगवान और स्वामी बहुत सुंदर हैं; मैं उनके चरण कमलों की धूल हूँ। ईश्वर की ओर देखते हुए, मैं जीवित हूं, और मुझे शांति मिलती है; कोई भी उनके जितना महान नहीं है। वह समय के आरंभ, अंत और मध्य में विद्यमान है, वह समुद्र, भूमि और आकाश में व्याप्त है। उनके कमल चरणों का ध्यान करते हुए, मैं भयानक संसार-सागर को पार कर गया हूँ। नानक पूर्ण पारलौकिक प्रभु के अभयारण्य की तलाश करते हैं; प्रभु, आपका कोई अंत या सीमा नहीं है। ||2||

मैं एक पल के लिए भी अपने प्रिय प्रिय भगवान, जीवन की सांस के आधार को नहीं त्यागूंगा। गुरु, सच्चे गुरु, ने मुझे सच्चे, दुर्गम भगवान के चिंतन का निर्देश दिया है। विनम्र, पवित्र संत से मिलकर, मुझे नाम, भगवान का नाम प्राप्त हुआ, और जन्म और मृत्यु के दर्द मुझसे दूर हो गए। मुझे शांति, शिष्टता और प्रचुर आनंद का आशीर्वाद मिला है, और अहंकार की गांठ खुल गई है। वह सबके भीतर है, और सबके बाहर है; वह प्रेम या घृणा से अछूता है। दास नानक ने ब्रह्मांड के भगवान के अभयारण्य में प्रवेश किया है; प्रिय भगवान मन का सहारा है. ||3||

मैंने खोजा, और खोजा, और प्रभु का अचल, अपरिवर्तनीय घर पाया। मैंने देखा है कि सब कुछ क्षणभंगुर और नाशवान है, और इसलिए मैंने अपनी चेतना को भगवान के कमल चरणों से जोड़ दिया है। ईश्वर शाश्वत और अपरिवर्तनीय है, और मैं केवल उसकी दासी हूँ; वह मरता नहीं है, या पुनर्जन्म में आता-जाता नहीं है। वह धार्मिक आस्था, धन और सफलता से भरपूर है; वह मन की इच्छाएं पूरी करते हैं. वेद और स्मृतियाँ सृष्टिकर्ता की स्तुति गाते हैं, जबकि सिद्ध, साधक और मौन संत उसका ध्यान करते हैं। नानक ने अपने प्रभु और स्वामी, दया के खजाने के अभयारण्य में प्रवेश किया है; बड़े सौभाग्य से, वह भगवान की स्तुति गाता है ||4||1||11||
