Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Parkash Gurpurab
May Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji bless us with strength to stand for truth, devotion in our hearts, and peace in our lives. Gurpurab di lakh lakh vadhaiyan!
On April 16, 1621, which corresponded to Vaishakh Shukla Paksha Panchami, Samvat 1678, a Friday, Sri Guru Hargobind Ji had arrived at Sri Harmandir Sahib early in the morning, as per his daily routine. Just then, he received the joyful news that his wife, Mata Nanaki Ji, had given birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy.
At that moment, kirtan of Asa Ki Vaar was being performed. Upon hearing this blessed news, Guru Ji stood up and, out of deep gratitude, bowed before the palanquin of the radiant Guru Granth Sahib, offering a heartfelt prayer and then performing a full prostration (dandaut pranam).
After the conclusion of the kirtan, Guru Ji returned to his residence, Guru Ka Mahal, along with the sangat and devotees. Upon seeing the newborn, Guru Ji humbly bowed his head in reverence.
This act of bowing left those nearby in awe, and they curiously asked why he was bowing before a newborn child. In response, Guru Ji said: "This child will protect the poor and the distressed and will relieve the sufferings of all beings."
Guru Ji then named the brave child Tyag Mal, as he believed this child would one day make the ultimate sacrifice for the welfare of humanity — a sacrifice that would be remembered in golden letters in the annals of history.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurpurab Wishes
Protector of Hinduism
Aurangzeb had formulated a fanatic religious policy. He wanted to spread Islam throughout India. He started by converting Hindus in Kashmir. Fairs were banned. In the name of checking idol worship, even the manufacture of earthen toys was not allowed.
The Pandits of Kashmir were upset at these conversions. When they could not tolerate it any longer, a batch of them under the leadership of Kirpa Ram approached Guru Tegh Bahadur at Anandpur Sahib. They narrated: "Aurangzeb is very cruel to Hindus. He is converting them to Islam. If this continues, Hinduism will be wiped from Kashmir and even from India." The Guru was moved by their tales. He remarked: "Protection of Hindusim now demands a supreme sacrifice. Unless some truthful protector is prepared to give this sacrifice. Hinduism cannot be saved."
It happened in May 1675 AD. Guru Gobind Singh who was then just a child came there and said: "Father! Who can be a greater protector of Hinduism than yourself." Everybody was surprised at this remark. But Guru Tegh Bahadur was very pleased. He embraced Guru Gobind Singh and said: "Pandits, you may now go. Tell the Nawab that you will become Muslim if Guru Tegh Bahadur first becomes a Muslim."
