Jeeva Tere Naae Man Anand Hai Jeeo

O, Lord! I live by (feel thrilled) reciting True Name alone and I enjoy the eternal bliss with this True Name. You are Truth personified and the very thought or meditation of Your True Name is also True. O, Lord-Creator and Enlightener! Your True Name is the greatest of all, who has created, and enlightened this world, and He Himself destroys it (as it pleases Him), while this knowledge of Your form is brought out through the Guru's Grace.

This human being has been brought into this world by the Lord's Will alone as such when Your call for his comeback (death) is announced, no one has any way to refuse it. O, Lord! You are sustaining this whole universe after creating it and all the beings are pre-destined with a certain fortune as per Your Will (dictates) and this realization has been bestowed on us by You alone. O, Nanak! The Lord is beyond our comprehension and unseen power. I feel alive only by singing Hislraises and describing His True Greatness. (1)

O, Lord! There is none else equal to You in Greatness; whosoever is born in this world, has to die finally. O, Lord! The persons, who have cast away their whims and dual-mindedness through the Guru's guidance, are ultimately made to reap the reward of their own actions as per Your Will. O, Lord! The persons, who are enabled to cast away their doubts and misgivings by singing Your praises through the Guru's guidance and Grace have been merged with You by attaining purity of heart. The fortune, as pre-destined by the Lord's Will for us based on our actions, cannot be altered by anybody, so how do we know what will be our fate in the Lord's presence?

In fact, I have not earned the Lord's acceptance having imbibed the love of the Lord and developed all virtues, as such I will suffer in the next world as well, being full of vices and sinful actions. This wealth and beautiful youth is temporary like the shade of Akk (a small wild plant) tree, which does not last long, and causes a lot of suffering rather than any comforts. Once old age approaches, it appears to herald the end of a blissful life. O, Nanak! This human being is lost, being separated from the Lord-spouse just as a wedded woman is separated from her spouse, and roams around without the support of True Name as such the Lord also keeps Himself away (separated) from such persons. (1)

O, Human being, drowned in the ocean of life! (like a separated woman) You have already spoiled and destroyed your abode in the next world, but you could still improve your chances of survival by following the Guru's dictates by accepting the Guru's teachings. You could attain the blissful presence of the Lord by reciting your True Name in the company of the holy saints and enjoy the bliss of life.

O, human being! You are a temporary resident of this world like the wedded woman in her parent's house as such one should enjoy eternal bliss by reciting True Name. When you settle down in the abode of Your true house by attaining the Lord through the Guru's guidance (by attaining self-realization) you will enjoy the bliss of life in the love of the Lord day and night. O, Worldly People! Listen to me. We cannot attain self-realization without the worship of the Lord. ' O, Nanak! Once we attain the Lord-Spouse like the wedded woman, we can enjoy eternal bliss, by immersing in True Name having attained the Lord. (2)

This human being is accepted and liked by the Lord when he develops the love of the Lord in his heart just as a wedded woman is liked and loved by her spouse when she develops a love of her spouse. The person, who is imbued with the love of the Lord and has become thoughtful with the Guru's guidance and teachings engages himself in the worship of the Lord with humility by meditating on the Guru's Word like the wedded woman, who is filled with the love of her spouse.

Such a person, enjoying the eternal bliss in the love of the Lord (by reciting True Name) casts away his love for worldly falsehood. This kind of person subdues (kills) the vicious thoughts of the mind by developing the love of the Lord and being immersed in His love and devotion. Such a person, like the faithful wedded woman, has attained Truth by inculcating the love of the Lord in his heart and has enjoyed the conjugal love of the Lord Spouse. (3)

The person, who has won the love and acceptance of the Lord-Spouse, is liked by the Lord just like the woman winning the love of her spouse. Whereas the woman, who tells lies to her spouse (about her movements) does not get the confidence of the spouse is of no use to the spouse, and is not liked by her Spouse, as he does not bless her with his love and benevolence.

She is forgotten by the spouse, being full of flaws and shortcomings, as such the separated and discarded woman spends her night (the person wastes this life) in distress and pain. Such a person does not attain the Lord-spouse as he does not follow the Guru's Word or His teachings due to his vicious thoughts. O, Nanak! The person, who has attained self-realization, gets peace and bliss of life through the Guru's guidance and enjoys the Lord's love in this life; just like the faithful wife. (4)

Blessed and praise-worthy is the person, who has realized the Greatness and truth (secrets) of the Lord-Spouse like the wedded woman (knowing the value of her spouse) but the person, devoid of True Name, is untruthful and is always engrossed in the false values of life. However, the person, who is imbued with the love of the Lord and His worship and looks beautiful and blissful in His love, is loved by the True Master as well.

The person enjoys the bliss of life in the company of the Lord-Spouse, who bestows the conjugal bliss, being powerful and youthful, and is always immersed in His love like the wedded woman enjoying the conjugal love of her spouse. Whosoever follows the Guru's guidance and teachings with love and devotion, enjoys the bliss of the company of the Lord Spouse, having attained the fruit of knowledge, thus making him charming and beautiful with the enlightenment of true knowledge. O, Nanak! The person, who is blessed with honour and greatness (status) by the True Lord, is received with honour even in the Lord's presence. (5 - 2)

हे पूज्य परमेश्वर ! मैं तेरे नाम-सिमरन द्वारा ही जीवित हूँ और मेरे मन में आनंद बना रहता है (Jeeva Tere Naai Man Anand Hai Jeeo)। सत्यस्वरूप परमेश्वर का नाम सत्य है और उस गोविन्द के गुण भी सत्य हैं। गुरु का ज्ञान बोध करवाता है कि सृष्टि का सृजनहार परमेश्वर अनंत है, जिसने यह सृष्टि रचना की है, उसने ही इसका विनाश किया है।

जब प्रभु के हुक्म द्वारा भेजा हुआ (मृत्यु का) निमंत्रण आ जाता है तो कोई भी प्राणी उसे टाल नहीं सकता। वह स्वयं ही जीवों को उत्पन्न करके देखता रहता है अर्थात् उनकी देखभाल करता रहता है और स्वयं ही जीवों के किए कर्मो अनुसार उनके माथे पर किस्मत का लेख लिखता है। उसने स्वयं ही जीवों को अपने बारे में ज्ञान प्रदान किया है। हे नानक ! वह मालिक-परमेश्वर अगम्य एवं अगोचर है और मैं उसके सत्य नाम की स्तुति करने से ही जीवित हूँ॥ १॥

हे ईश्वर ! तुम्हारे जैसा अन्य कोई भी नहीं है। जो भी जन्म लेकर दुनिया में आया है, वह यहाँ से चला जाएगा। तेरे हुक्म से ही जीवों के किए कर्मो का निपटारा होता है और तू ही उनका भ्रम दूर करता है। हे भाई ! गुरु अपने सेवक का भ्रम दूर कर देता है और उससे अकथनीय प्रभु की स्तुति करवाता है। फिर वह सत्यपुरुष सत्य में ही समा जाता है। भगवान स्वयं ही जीवों को पैदा करता है और स्वयं ही उन्हें पुनः अपने में ही विलीन कर लेता है। मैंने हुक्म करने वाले भगवान का हुक्म पहचान लिया है।

हे मालिक प्रभु ! जिसने गुरु से तेरे नाम की सच्ची शोभा प्राप्त कर ली है, तू उसके मन में आकर बस जाता है और अन्तिम काल में भी उसका साथी बनता है। नानक का कथन है कि हे प्रभु ! तेरे सिवाय दूसरा कोई भी मालिक नहीं है और तेरे सत्य नाम द्वारा ही जीव को तेरे दरबार में बड़ाई मिलती है।॥ २॥

हे परमेश्वर ! एक तू ही सच्चा सृजनहार एवं अलख है और तूने ही सब जीवों को पैदा किया है। सब का मालिक एक परमात्मा ही है परन्तु उससे मिलने के कर्म मार्ग एवं ज्ञान मार्ग-उन दो प्रचलित मागों ने जीवों में परस्पर विवाद बढ़ा दिए हैं। परमेश्वर ने अपने हुक्म में समस्त जीवों को इन दो मार्गों पर चलाया हुआ है। उसके हुक्म से ही यह जगत जन्मता एवं मरता रहता है। जीव ने व्यर्थ ही माया रूपी विष का भार उठाया हुआ है परन्तु परमात्मा के नाम बिना कोई भी उसका साथी नहीं बनता। जीव तो परमात्मा के हुक्म से ही जगत में आया है। परन्तु वह उसके हुक्म को नहीं समझता। प्रभु स्वयं ही अपने हुक्म में जीव को सुन्दर बनाने वाला है। हे नानक ! मालिक-परमेश्वर की पहचान तो शब्द के द्वारा ही होती है और वही सच्चा सृजनहार है॥ ३॥

भगवान के भक्त उसके दरबार में बैठे बड़े सुन्दर लगते हैं और उनका जीवन शब्द से ही सुन्दर बना हुआ है। वह अपने मुख से अमृत वाणी बोलते हैं और उन्होंने अपनी रसना को अमृत रस पिलाया हुआ है। वे अमृत रस के ही प्यासे होते हैं और अपनी रसना को अमृत रस ही पिलाते रहते हैं। वे तो गुरु के शब्द पर ही न्योछावर होते हैं। हे प्रभु ! जब वे तेरे मन को अच्छे लगते हैं तो वे पारस रूपी गुरु को स्पर्श करके स्वयं भी पारस (रूपी गुरु) बन जाते हैं। वे अपने अहंकार को समाप्त करके अमर पदवी प्राप्त कर लेते हैं।कोई विरला पुरुष ही इस ज्ञान पर चिंतन करता है। हे नानक !भक्त सत्य के द्वार पर ही शोभा देते हैं और सत्य नाम के ही व्यापारी हैं।॥ ४॥

हे भाई ! मैं तो माया का भूखा और प्यासा हैं। फिर मैं भगवान के दरबार पर कैसे जा सकता हूँ? मैं जाकर अपने गुरु से पूछँगा एवं भगवान का नाम-सिमरन करूँगा। मैं अपने मन में सत्यनाम का ही ध्यान-मनन करता हूँ। अपने मुँह से सत्य नाम को जपता हूँ। अब तो मैं रात-दिन दीनानाथ, दयालु एवं पवित्र प्रभु के नाम का ही जाप करता हूँ। यह नाम-सिमरन करने का कार्य मुझे परमात्मा ने प्रारम्भ से ही करने की आज्ञा की है। इस तरह अहंकार मिट गया है और मन नियंत्रण में आ गया है। हे नानक ! नाम महां मीठा रस है और नाम ने मेरी माया की तृष्णा दूर कर दी है॥ ५॥ २॥

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਣਾਂ (ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਮੌਤ ਦਾ) ਸੱਦਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਸੱਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਮੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ, ਤੇ ਆਖੋ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ॥੧॥

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਹੋਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਇਥੋਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ (ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ)। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਾਤਮਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਆਖੋ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਹੇ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਇਕੋ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਜੰਮਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ) ਦੋ ਰਸਤੇ ਚਲਾਏ ਹਨ। (ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਝਗੜੇ ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ। ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੋਰੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, (ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਗਤ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜੀਵ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਰ-ਰੂਪ ਭਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

(ਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥੀ-ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੀਵ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਸ) ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਸਿੱਧੇ ਰਾਹ ਪਾ ਕੇ) ਸਵਾਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਪਛਾਣ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪਿਆਸ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸੁਖ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ (ਭਗਤ ਜਨ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ। ਪਰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥

ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ) ਮੈਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨॥
