English Translation

Vadhans Mahala - 5 (Prabh Karan Karan Samratha Ram ... )

O, Brother! The -Lord-sublime is all-powerful and capable of doing all our functions, and all the causes and effects (of everything) are under His control. In fact, the Lord protects and sustains the whole world through His support. (by giving His helping Hand). The Lord is our benefactor, the fountainhead of Grace and benevolence, all-powerful, and our supporter (at all times).

I would offer myself as a sacrifice (surrender myself) to such Guru-minded persons, who have realized the lord-sublime. O, Lord! You are not having any form, symbol, or hue and are indescribable, being beyond our comprehension. O, Nanak! May the all-powerful Lord, the cause and effect of everything, listen to my prayers and solicitations! (1)

O, Lord! All the beings in the world have been created by You as You are the creator of everything (the Universe). O, True Master! You are the Lord Almighty, capable of casting away all our ills, afflictions, whims, and lethargic tendencies.

O, Lord-benefactor! May You protect us by ridding us of all our afflictions and sufferings including dual-mindedness! O, Lord! You are my mother, father, friend, companion, and my True Master while the whole world (all the beings) is like Your children.

Whosoever takes refuge at Your lotus-feet, attains the wealth of True Name, the source of all virtues, and saves himself from the cycle of births and deaths. O, Nanak! I, being the devotee of the Lord, would pray to the Lord that all the beings belong to Him as He is the creator of all the beings. (2)

O, Lord! It behooves us to worship the Lord all the twenty- four hours, as all our desires are fulfilled by reciting True Name, and by so doing the fear-complex of the Yama (god of death) is also cast away. All our hopes and desires were fulfilled by reciting True Name in the company of the holy saints and by singing the Lord's praises.

O, Nanak! We are loved and accepted by the Lord when we get rid of our egoism, worldly attachments, or other vices and sinful actions. We should always remember the Lord day and night by reciting his True Name. (3)

The all-pervasive (Unstrung) music of Nature is heard all the time at the Lord's Abode, and there is joy and happiness all around. In fact, the Lord is present in all beings and speaks through various forms of human beings.

The Lord, who cannot be seen with the human eyes, can not be approached by human feet, is the highest and greatest in the world, ann pervades everywhere being omnipresent, and He alone speaks through various individuals. The virtues of the Lord are limitless, which cannot be described by us, and none can comprehend Him, being beyond our comprehension.

The lord has created all the beings with the help of five elements and sustains all the beings, big and small, after creating them. O, Nanak! The true bliss of life is attained from the Lord's worship and by reciting the True Name or in the company of holy saints. O, Lord! Your praises are being sung in the whole world all the time. (through the all-pervasive music of Nature. ( 4-3)

वडहंसु महला ५ ॥ हे प्रभु ! तू सबकुछ करने-कराने में समर्थ है, अपना हाथ देकर सारी दुनिया की रक्षा करो। तू ही समर्थ, शरण प्रदान करने योग्य, सबका मालिक, कृपानिधि एवं सुखों का दाता है। मैं तेरे उन सेवकों पर कुर्बान जाता हूँ, जो केवल एक ईश्वर को ही पहचानते हैं। उस परमात्मा का कोई रंग एवं चिन्ह वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता क्योंकि उसका कथन अकथनीय है। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हे सबकुछ करने-करवाने में सर्वशक्तिमान प्रभु ! मेरी एक वन्दना सुनो॥ १॥

ये जीव तेरे उत्पन्न किए हुए हैं और तू इनका रचयिता है। हे प्रभु ! तू दुःख-दर्द एवं भ्रम का नाश करने वाला है। हे दीनदयालु ! दुविधा, दुख-दर्द का नाश करके एक क्षण में मेरी रक्षा करो। तू ही माता-पिता, मालिक एवं मित्र है और यह सारा जगत तेरी संतान है। जो तेरी शरण में आता है, उसे गुणों का भण्डार प्राप्त हो जाता है और वह दुबारा न जन्म लेता है और न ही मृत्यु को प्राप्त होता है। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हे पूज्य परमेश्वर ! यह सभी जीव तेरे हैं और तू सबका रचयिता है॥ २॥

दिन-रात परमात्मा का ध्यान करना चाहिए, इसके फलस्वरूप मनोवांछित फल प्राप्त हो जाते हैं। परमात्मा का ध्यान करने से मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण हो जाती हैं और मृत्यु का भय मिट जाता है। संतों की सभा में सम्मिलित होकर जगतपालक गोविन्द का गुणगान करने से सभी आशाएँ पूरी हो गई हैं। अपना अहंकार, मोह एवं सभी विकार त्याग कर हम प्रभु के मन को अच्छे लगने लग गए हैं। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हमें दिन-रात सदा-सर्वदा भगवान का ध्यान करते रहना चाहिए॥ ३॥

परमात्मा के दरबार में हमेशा ही अनहत कीर्तन गूंज रहा है। जगत का रक्षक गोविन्द प्रत्येक हृदय में बोल रहा है। वह सर्वदा ही बोलता एवं सभी के भीतर विराजमान है, वह अगम्य, मन-वाणी से परे एवं सर्वोपरि है। उस प्रभु के अनन्त गुण है, मनुष्य उसके गुणों का तिल मात्र भी वर्णन नहीं कर सकता और कोई भी उसके पास पहुँच नहीं सकता। वह स्वयं ही पैदा करता है, स्वयं ही पालन-पोषण करता है और सभी जीव-जन्तु उसकी ही रचना है। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि जीवन के सभी सुख परमात्मा के नाम एवं भक्ति में हैं, जिसके द्वार पर अनहद नाद बजते रहते हैं॥४॥३॥

ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਸਭ-ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਰੰਗ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ।੧।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਤੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਭਰਮ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਮਨ-ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਹਮ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੋਹ, ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਾ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ) ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਸ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਇਕ-ਰਸ, ਮਾਨੋ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੪।੩।
