Gurbani Path refers to the daily and occasional recitation of hymns (Shabads) composed by the Sikh Gurus and included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, along with select compositions from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji. For millions of Sikhs and followers of Sikhi around the world, doing Gurbani Path is a core part of daily discipline — known as Nitnem — as well as of Ardas, Akhand Path, Sukhmani Sahib Path, and other devotional gatherings.

This page brings together, in one place, the full text of the most-searched Gurbani Paths on Sikhizm — including Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib, Chaupai Sahib, Anand Sahib, Rehras Sahib, Kirtan Sohila, Tav Prasad Savaiye, Akal Ustat, Shabad Hazare, Barah Maha and Ardas — each written out in full with translation and meaning, so you can read Gurbani Path online without needing a physical Gutka Sahib. We are steadily expanding this collection to eventually include every Bani from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, so bookmark this page and check back for new additions.

What Is Gurbani Path and Why It Matters

Gurbani literally means "the Guru's word" — the hymns of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and select Baniyan from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji. Doing "Path" (reciting or reading) these compositions is considered a form of meditation (Simran) and a way of connecting daily life to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. Five Baniyan — Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaiye, Chaupai Sahib, and Anand Sahib in the morning; Rehras Sahib in the evening; and Kirtan Sohila at night — make up the Nitnem, the daily prayer routine every practicing Sikh is encouraged to follow.

How to Use This Gurbani Path Page for Daily Nitnem

Bookmark this page as your single starting point for daily Path. Each morning, work through Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaiye and Chaupai Sahib; in the evening, read Rehras Sahib; before sleeping, recite Kirtan Sohila. On Gurpurabs, Amrit Vela, or during Akhand Path/Sehaj Path, you can also add Sukhmani Sahib, Anand Sahib, Barah Maha, Akal Ustat and Shabad Hazare from the list above. If Gurmukhi reading is difficult, use the Hindi or English transliteration versions linked in each card, then gradually move to the Punjabi script version for a more authentic recitation.

Punjabi, Hindi or English — Which Version Should You Read?

Reading Gurbani in the original Gurmukhi script preserves the exact pronunciation and rhythm (Tuk) the Gurus intended, and is recommended once you're comfortable with the script. Hindi transliterations help readers who grew up reading Devanagari script recite Gurbani correctly without needing to learn Gurmukhi first. English transliterations and translations are useful for children, new followers of Sikhi, or diaspora Sikhs who did not grow up reading either script, and help make the meaning of each Shabad accessible.
