English Translation

Slok M - 3 ( Satgur Ki Sewa Chakri )
O, Brother! The service of the True Guru is blissful and brings real joy and comforts, as a result of which, one gets honored in this world with prestige, and even in the next world the doors to salvation open up. Thus by reciting the True Name of the Lord, our functions in the world are also made truthful by wearing the robes of Truth. In fact, in the company of the holy saints, we imbibe the true love of the Lord's True Name, thus getting merged with the True Lord. We enjoy the bliss of life always by listening to the Guru's Word (Shabad) and we are received with honor even in the Lord's presence, being proclaimed as Truthful. O Nanak! The service of the Guru could be performed only by the person, who is blessed with the Grace and benevolence of the Lord. (1)

M-3: Cursed is the service of the worldly falsehood (Maya) and the life of such persons is a total loss and worth condemnation, being a curse. Such self-willed (faithless) persons are engrossed in the love of (the poison of) Maya (worldly falsehood) having forsaken the nectar of the Lord's True Name. They only amass the capital of poison and deal in the business of (poisonous vices) venom in this world. Thus they are subjected to a lot of sufferings in this life and are thrown into hell after their death even. The self-willed (faithless) persons are impure of heart, as such they do not relish the nectar of True Name and the Guru's Word (Gurbani) and finally perish, engrossed in vicious and sinful actions, obsessed with sexual desires and anger. They lead this life with a perturbed mind and impatience, without having any love or fear of the Lord (wonder awe); thus being unsuccessful in all their functions, are thrown into hell, the land of Yama. No one even cares to listen to their prayers or requests. O Nanak! We are made to follow the path and perform such actions as are ordained by the Lord as per our pre-destined fortune and the Lord's Will, as such the Guru-minded persons are always enjoying the eternal bliss, being immersed in the love of the True Name and the Guru's Word. Pouri: O Brother! Let us serve the True Guru in the company of the holy saints, who have inculcated the love of the True Name in our hearts. Let us worship the Guru day and night, who has exhorted us to recite the True Name of the Lord, the creator, and sustainer of the whole world. Let us perceive the glimpse of the vision) of the Guru every moment, who has shown us the path of realization and unity with the Lord. O, Brother! Let us seek refuge at the lotus feet of the True Guru, who has cast away the darkness of ignorance due to this Maya (worldly falsehood). Let us sing the praises of the True Guru, who has bestowed the treasure of True Name on us and blessed us with the recitation of True Name! (3)

Hukamnama in Hindi Translation

( Satgur Ki Sewa Chakri ) 

श्लोक महला ३॥ सतगुरु की सेवा-चाकरी सर्व सुखों का सार है। गुरु की सेवा करने से दुनिया में बड़ा मान-सम्मान मिलता है और भगवान के दरबार में मोक्षद्वार प्राप्त होता है। वह पुरुष सत्य-कर्म ही करता है, सत्य को ही धारण करता है और सत्य-नाम ही उसका आधार है। सच्ची संगति से उसे सत्य प्राप्त हो जाता है एवं सच्चे-नाम से उसका प्यार हो जाता है। सच्चे शब्द द्वारा वह सर्वदा हर्षित रहता है और सत्य-दरबार में सत्यशील माना जाता है। हे नानक ! सतिगुरु की सेवा वही करता है, जिस पर भगवान अपनी कृपा-दृष्टि करता है॥ १॥

महला ३॥ उनके जीवन पर धिक्कार है और उनका निवास भी धिक्कार योग्य है, जो सतिगुरु के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य की सेवा करते हैं। वे अमृत को त्याग कर विष से संलग्न होकर विष को कमाते हैं और विष ही उनकी पूंजी है। विष ही उनका भोजन है, विष ही उनका पहरावा है और विष के ग्रास ही अपने मुँह में डालते हैं। इहलोक में वे घोर कष्ट ही कमाते हैं और मृत्यु के पश्चात् नरक में ही निवास करते हैं। स्वेच्छाचारी लोगों के मुँह बड़े मैले हैं, वे शब्द के भेद को नहीं जानते और कामवासना एवं गुस्से में ही उनका विनाश हो जाता है। वे सतगुरु का प्रेम त्याग देते हैं और मन के हठ के कारण उनका कोई भी कार्य सम्पूर्ण नहीं होता। यमपुरी में वे बांध कर पीटे जाते हैं और कोई भी उनकी प्रार्थना नहीं सुनता। हे नानक ! पूर्व जन्म में कर्मो के अनुसार विधाता ने जो तकदीर लिख दी है, हम जीव उसके अनुसार ही कर्म करते हैं तथा गुरु के माध्यम से ही प्रभु-नाम में निवास होता है॥ २॥

पौड़ी॥ हे साधुजनो ! उस सतगुरु की सेवा करो, जिसने परमात्मा का नाम मन में दृढ़ करवाया है। उस सतगुरु की दिन-रात पूजा करो, जिसने जगन्नाथ-जगदीश्वर का नाम हमें जपाया है। ऐसे सतगुरु के क्षण-क्षण दर्शन करो, जिसने हरि का हरि-मार्ग बताया है। सभी उस सतगुरु के चरण-स्पर्श करो, जिसने मोह का अन्धेरा नष्ट कर दिया है। सभी लोग ऐसे सतगुरु को धन्य-धन्य कहो, जिसने हरि-भक्ति के भण्डार जीवों को दिलवा दिए हैं।॥ ३ ॥

Gurmukhi Translation

( Satgur Ki Sewa Chakri ) 

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਤੱਤ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂਈ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ। (ਗੁਰ-ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ) ਸੱਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਉਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪੜਦੇ ਕੱਜਣ ਲਈ) ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
