English Translation

Asa Mahala - 5 Chhant Ghar - 7 Ik Onkar Satgur Prasad Slok ( Subh Chintan Gobind Raman Nirmal Sadhu Sung... )

"By the Grace of one Supreme Lord, Truth personified and attainable through the Guru's guidance"

O Nanak! May the Lord grant me the boon of True Name so that I may not forget it even for a moment and purify myself in the company of holy saints! Thus I may remember the Lord with my heart and recite the True Name in my speech as well. (1)

In the ambrosial hours of the morning, when the cool breeze is blowing and the stars are still shining in the sky, the holy saints and the Guru-minded persons get up in the pre-dawn hours and meditate on the Lord's True Name day and night. O Lord! Such holy saints are always immersed in the meditation of True Name by concentrating on Your lotus feet. O Nanak! Such persons are constantly remembering the Lord, getting rid of their worldly attachments, vicious thoughts and ego, thus burning all their sins and misfortunes. Such Guru-minded persons are always alert and fully awake in reciting and singing the Lord's praises. (1)

O dear friend! Once I came to know about the arrival of my Lord-Spouse. I started embellishing myself for the reception of the Lord with all the material being provided by the Lord Himself, resulting in joy and bliss within my heart. When I got united with the Lord finally, my body and soul (mind) were filled with joy and love and when the Lord took me in His embrace, all my cribbing and pangs of separation disappeared, bringing new life and bliss within my body and mind through this unison. Now I have got all my desires fulfilled and the time of meeting the Lord through meditation of True Name was most opportune for me and considered as auspicious. O Nanak! When the Lord Almighty enabled me to unite with Himself, I felt such a joyful and blissful feeling within me, which is beyond description resulting in immense pleasure. (2)

Now, seeing my joy and happiness, my friends were keen to ask me the signs and symbols of meeting the Lord Spouse and whether there was any gain of real joy or comfort from this union. But the person, having a glimpse of the Lord was so overjoyed and immersed in the Lord's love that he could not explain his experience, (what could the woman, having experienced the conjugal love of her spouse, say to other friends about her experience) as this is beyond description. The qualities of the fathomless Lord are hidden, and even the author of the Vedas could not say anything about them. So it is only right for us to remember the Lord with love and devotion and sing His praises. The person, who has pleased the Lord and has been accepted by Him, has gained all the spiritual knowledge and the virtues. O Nanak! I could only say that the Guru-minded persons, imbued with the Lord's love enjoy the bliss of life in the state of equipoise through their devotion just as the woman enjoys the conjugal bliss of her spouse. (3)

Since the time we started singing the praises of the Lord, there is perfect joy and peace in my mind and all the senses are friendly with the increase in virtues and other qualities through the Lord's love; while all the sufferings, sinful actions or vicious thoughts have completely disappeared. There has been perfect joy and eternal bliss within me since we started meditation of True Name through the Lord's Grace. Now we are fully awake and alert to the recitation of True Name by lying at the lotus feet of the Lord as we have met the Lord's creator, the gardener of this Universe. Now there are good times for us, having attained the state of equipoise, and the treasure of the Lord's True Name. O Nanak! I only seek the support of the Lord, the True Master, as His saints always attain all the knowledge through meditation of the True Name. Now we also would like to commit ourselves to continued and permanent love of the Lord by singing His praises always. (4-1-10)

Hindi Translation

आसा महला ५ छंत घरु ७ ईश्वर एक है, जिसे सतगुरु की कृपा से पाया जा सकता है।

श्लोक॥ मैं शुभ चिंतन करता रहूँ, गोविंद का नाम याद करता रहूँ और साधु की निर्मल संगति करता रहूँ। नानक की प्रार्थना है कि हे भगवान ! मुझ पर ऐसी कृपा करो कि मैं एक क्षण भर के लिए भी तेरा नाम न भूलूं।॥ १॥

छंद॥ जब ओस से भीगी हुई रात्रि में तारे चमकते हैं तो मेरे राम के प्यारे संतजन इस सुहावनी रात्रि को जागते रहते हैं। वे राम के प्यारे संतजन सदैव ही जागते हैं और नित्य ही नाम को याद करते रहते हैं। वे अपने हृदय में प्रभु के चरण-कमल का ध्यान करते हैं और एक क्षण भर के लिए भी उसे विस्मृत नहीं करते। वे मन का अहंकार, मोह, विकार इत्यादि बुराइयों को त्याग कर दु:खों को नाश कर देते हैं। नानक वन्दना करता है कि हरि के दास प्यारे संतजन सदैव ही जागते रहते हैं॥ १ ॥

मेरे मन के सेज की भव्य सजावट हो गई है। जब से मैंने सुना है कि मेरा प्रभु आ रहा है तो मेरे मन में आनंद उत्पन्न हो गया है। स्वामी प्रभु को मिलकर मैं सुखी हो गई हूँ और चाव, मंगल के रस से भर गई हूँ। प्रभु मेरे अंग-संग लग गया है, जिससे दुःख भाग गए हैं और मेरा मन-तन फूल की तरह खिल गया है। प्रभु का ध्यान करने से मेरी मनोकामना पूरी हो गई है, मैं अपने विवाह संयोग के समय को शुभ मानती हूँ। नानक वन्दना करता है कि श्रीधर प्रभु से मिलकर मुझे समस्त खुशियों का रस प्राप्त हो गयाहै॥ २॥

मेरी सखियाँ मुझसे मिलकर पूछती हैं कि हमें अपने प्रियतम-पति की कोई निशानी बताओ। उसके प्रेम के रस से मैं इतनी भर गई थी कि मैं कुछ भी कह न सकी। जगत-रचयिता प्रभु के गुण गहन, गुप्त एवं अपार हैं और वेद भी उसका अन्त नहीं पा सकते। मैं भक्ति-भाव से ज्ञान से पूर्ण होने के कारण मैं अपने प्रभु को अच्छी लगने लग गई हूँ। सभी गुणों और आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान से भरी हुई , मैं अपने भगवान को प्रसन्न हो गई हूँ। नानक विनती करता है कि वह प्रभु के प्रेम रंग में रंगी हुई है और सहज ही उसमें समा गई है॥ ३॥

जब मैं भगवान की खुशी के गीत गाने लग गया तो मेरे सज्जन-सत्य, संतोष, दया एवं धर्म इत्यादि प्रसन्न हो गए मेरे दुश्मन-काम, क्रोध, लोभ, मोह इत्यादि दुःख भाग गए। मेरी खुशी एवं सुख बढ़ गए, मैं प्रभु के नाम में आनंद प्राप्त करने लगा क्योंकि भगवान ने स्वयं मुझ पर कृपा की है। मैं हरि के सुन्दर चरणों से जुड़ गया हूँ और सदा सावधान रहने के कारण मैं बनवारी प्रभु से मिल गया हूँ। अब शुभ दिन आ गए हैं और मैंने सहज सुख प्राप्त कर लिया है। प्रभु के चरणों की सेवा करने से मुझे निधियाँ मिल गई हैं। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हे जगत के स्वामी ! भक्तजन सदैव ही तेरी शरण चाहते हैं॥ ४ ॥ १ ॥ १० ॥

Punjabi Translation

ਆਸਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਛੰਦ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਲੋਕ ॥ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ, ਇਕ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ॥

ਛੰਦ ॥ ਤ੍ਰੇਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੱਖਤ੍ਰ (ਤਾਰੇ) ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਵਾਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਖਬਰਦਾਰ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਛਿੰਨ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ॥ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਦਫੈਲੀ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਸੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਮਾਸਤੇ, ਪੀਤਵਾਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਲੰਘ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਜੌਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ, ਦੁਖੜੇ ਦੌੜ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ, ਚਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰਸਬਜ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਆਹ (ਸੰਯੋਗ) ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਗਿਣਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥

ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਤੇ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੱਸ ॥ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਐਨੀ ਲਬਾਲਬ (ਨੱਕੋ ਨੱਕ ਭਰੀ ਪਈ) ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਆਖ ਨਾਂ ਸਕੀ ॥ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੂਬੀਆਂ, ਡੂੰਘੀਆਂ, ਗੈਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਦਬੰਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹਨ ॥ ਵੇਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ॥

ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਤਕਲੀਫਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੌੜ ਗਏ ॥ ਮੇਰੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਕੀਤਾ ॥ ਮੈਂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮੜ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ॥ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਆ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ॥ ਸਾਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਲੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
