Bhai Taru Singh Ji Shaheedi Diwas
The Shaheedi Purab (martyrdom anniversary) of Bhai Taru Singh Ji in 2023 will take place on the 16th of July. Bhai Taru Singh Ji is revered for the profound impact he has had on Sikh history, as evident in the phrases included in the Ardas (Sikh prayer) such as "Jinha Khoprian Lohaiyan" (those who had their scalps removed) and "Sikhi Sidak Kesa Swasa Naal Nibhai" (those who maintained unwavering faith in Sikhism till their last breath).

According to historical accounts found in Ali-ud-Din's Ibarat Name (page 211) and Khushwakat Rai's Tawarikh (page 72), as referenced by Dr. HS Dilgir in the second part of the Sikh Tawarikh, Bhai Taru Singh's skull was carved with a Rambi on June 25, 1745. He was martyred on July 1st. On the same day, Bhai Mehtab Singh, who had been arrested and reformed Masse Ranghar, was also martyred.
Khafi Khan's writings mention that Bhai Taru Singh was stripped of his skin and thrown into a ditch, intended to be consumed by jackals. However, even in that state, Bhai Taru Singh continued reciting Bani (Sikh scriptures). These were the final Sikh executions ordered by Zakaria Khan. Interestingly, fate played its role, as Zakaria Khan, the cruel ruler who had ordered the beheading, also met his demise on the same day, experiencing agonizing suffering before passing away.
On this day of martyrdom, let us make a commitment to honor and respect the Sikh articles of faith. May we embrace the cases as symbols of our identity and heritage. May God bestow upon us the blessings of Naam (divine name), Bani (scriptures), and eternal happiness in our lives.
