Bhai Taru Singh Ji Shaheedi Diwas
The Shaheedi Purab (martyrdom anniversary) of Bhai Taru Singh Ji in 2024 will take place on the 16th of July. Bhai Taru Singh Ji is revered for the profound impact he has had on Sikh history, as evident in the phrases included in the Ardas (Sikh prayer) such as "Jinha Khoprian Lohaiyan" (those who had their scalps removed) and "Sikhi Sidak Kesa Swasa Naal Nibhai" (those who maintained unwavering faith in Sikhism till their last breath).

As mentioned in the Ibarat Name of Ali-ud-Din on page 211 and Tawarikh of Khushwakat Rai on page 72 referred by Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgir in the second part of the Sikh Tawarikh, there was carving of Rambi on the skull of Bhai Taru Singh on 25-06-1745. He was martyred on the first of July. On the same day, Bhai Mehtab Singh who was arrested earlier and reformed Masse Ranghar was also martyred.
The writings of Khafi Khan also record that Bhai Taru Singh was skinned alive and then thrown into a ditch to be devoured by the jackals. But even in that state, Bhai Taru Singh carried on with the reading of Bani (Sikh scriptures). These were the last Sikh executions that Zakaria Khan had ordered to be carried out. Notably, it was the turn of the evil-hearted Zakaria Khan who ordered the beheading to die on the same day as the head of the man he beheaded after suffering a lot of pain.
On this day of martyrdom, it is pertinent that the Sikh articles of faith are honoured and respected. May we accept the cases as part of our personas and an affirmation of our history. May the Lord grant us Naam, Bani and Sachiar, the light of the true name, scriptures and everlasting bliss.
