Hukamnama Darbar Sahib, Amritsar: Har Jio Tudh No Sadaa Salaahi Pyaare Jichar Ghat Antar Hai Saasa; Raag Sorath Mahalla 3rd, Guru Amardas Ji, Ang 601 SGGS.

2. English Translation

Sorath Mahala 3rd ( Har Jio Tudh No Sadaa Salaahi )

O, beloved Lord! I would continue singing Your praises all the time, so long I am alive. (I am breathing with life). In case I forsake Your True Name even for a moment, it appears as if ages (fifty years or more) have gone by (without reciting True Name). O, Brother! We are the fools of the first order (water), but have now been enlightened with the Lord's knowledge through the Guru's guidance. (1)

O, Lord! May You enable Your (slaves) devotees to realize Your secrets (secrets of Nature) O, Lord! I would offer myself as a sacrifice to You and recite Your True Name with complete self-surrender. (Pause)

Brother! We have followed the Guru's Word and have surrendered to the Guru's Message completely, having given up our egoism, thus attaining salvation through the Guru's, teachings (guidance) and leading a life of humility. (lead a life! of humility having deviated from the path of sinful actions). Now our heart is purified through the Guru's Words and the love of the Lord is inculcated in the heart. The person, who is imbued with the love of the Guru, the benefactor of the Guru's Word and teachings, gets immersed in the love of the Lord all the time. (2)

Why such persons, who are blind and deaf due to ignorance of the Guru's Word, have been born in this world, as they have wasted this human life without partaking in the nectar of the Lord's True Name? They are passed through the cycle of births and deaths time and again. The foolish self-willed persons are always engrossed in vicious thoughts and sinful actions like the worms of filth and waste this life in the darkness of ignorance. (3)

O, Brother! The Lord alone guides us on the right path) who after creating this world sustains it also, and there is no other support for us except the Lord. O, Brother! Whatever the Lord Wills, comes to pass, as no one could alter the dictates of the Lord, as predestined by the Lord's Will and one has to accept one's destiny. O, Nanak! I have inculcated the love of the Lord's True Name in my heart as there is none (no other power) else on par with the Lord in Greatness for our support (4-4)

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਵਾਂ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਲ-ਭਰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ-ਭਰ ਵਿੱਸਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਸਾਲ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਤੁਰੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੱਟਦੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੩।

ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸ ਸਕੇ) । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ (ਹੋਰ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੪।੪।

सोरठ महला ३ ॥ हे हरि ! जब तक मेरे शरीर में जीवन सांसें हैं, तब तक मैं सर्वदा तेरी ही महिमा-स्तुति करता रहूँ। हे मेरे स्वामी !
यदि मैं तुझे एक पल एवं क्षण भर के लिए विस्मृत कर दूँ तो मैं इसे पचास वर्ष के बराबर समझता हूँ।
हे भाई ! हम तो हमेशा से ही विमूढ एवं बुद्धिहीन थे लेकिन गुरु के शब्द से हमें ज्ञान का प्रकाश मिल गया है॥ १॥

हे हरि ! तुम स्वयं ही हम जीवों को सुबुद्धि प्रदान करते हो। इसलिए मैं तुझ पर हमेशा ही कुर्बान जाता हूँ और तेरे नाम पर न्यौछावर होता हूँ॥ रहाउ॥
हे भाई ! हम गुरु-शब्द द्वारा ही मोह-माया के प्रति मरे हैं और शब्द द्वारा ही मरकर पुन:जीवित हुए हैं और शब्द के द्वारा ही मुक्ति प्राप्त हुई है।
शब्द से ही मन एवं तन निर्मल हुआ और हरि आकर मन में निवास कर गया है। शब्द रूपी गुरु ही दाता है, जिससे मेरा मन लीन हो गया है और मैं प्रभु में समाया रहता हूँ॥ २॥

जो शब्द के रहस्य को नहीं जानते, वे अन्धे एवं बहरे हैं, फिर वे दुनिया में किसलिए आए हैं ?
उन्होंने हरि रस को प्राप्त नहीं किया एवं यूं ही अपना जीवन व्यर्थ ही गंवा दिया है और फिर बार-बार जन्मते रहते हैं।
ऐसे मूर्ख एवं अज्ञानी मनमुख व्यक्ति विष्टा के ही कीड़े हैं और विष्टा में ही गल-सड़ जाते हैं।॥ ३॥

हे भाई ! ईश्वर स्वयं ही जीवों को पैदा करके उनका पालन-पोषण करता है और सन्मार्ग लगाता है। उसके अलावा दूसरा कोई रचयिता नहीं।
हे भाई ! जो जीवों की किस्मत में आरंभ से ही लिखा हुआ है, उसे कोई भी मिटा नहीं सकता, जो सृजनहार करता है, वही होता है।
नानक का कथन है कि हे भाई ! मन के भीतर प्रभु का नाम निवास कर गया है और उसके सिवाय कोई दूसरा है ही नहीं ॥ ४॥ ४॥
