English Translation

Sorath Mahala Pehla ( Tu Prabh Data Daan Mat Pura )

O Lord-benefactor! What favors could I seek and solicit from You, when nothing is everlasting, being transient and temporary? We are begging for Your favors whereas You are our benefactor, full of wisdom and knowledge. (being omniscient) May I be bestowed with the wonderful and lovable True Name alone! (1)

The gardener of this worldly garden is pervading everywhere and all the beings, and is prevalent in a hidden form all over including all the lands, oceans, and skies, and is functioning in all the beings in various forms) The persons, blessed with the Guru's guidance, alone could realize (perceive) His presence everywhere. (Pause)

When the Guru bestows His Grace on us, then we could perceive the omnipresent Lord everywhere, in the (Earth) world, nether lands, and the sky in full measure. The Lord is ever-existent, without being affected by the cycle of Rebirths, and will be present in the future as well. We could (perceive) realize the Lord, the killer of the demon of egoism, within ourselves (within the heart ). (2)

This man has forgotten the Lord's worship due to his dual-mindedness, as such this poor man suffers the torture of the cycle of births and deaths. But we could get the Guru's guidance only when we are united with the Guru, or else this human being loses the battle of life, engrossed in worldly falsehood (Maya).

O Nanak! The persons, whose worldly bondage has been (broken) cast away by the Guru's support, are made distinct and stay aloof from the worldly falsehood, thus escaping the torture of the cycle of births and deaths. Such persons have been enlightened with the true knowledge (within their hearts) and they have crossed this ocean of life successfully by inculcating the love of the Lord in their hearts. (4-8)

Hukamnama Translation in Hindi

सोरठि महला १ ॥ ( Tu Prabh Data Daan Mat Pura )

हे प्रभु! तू दाता एवं दानशील है और बुद्धि से परिपूर्ण है, लेकिन हम तो तेरे भिखारी ही हैं। मैं तुझ से क्या माँगूं? क्योंकि कुछ भी स्थिर रहने वाला नहीं है अर्थात् प्रत्येक पदार्थ नश्वर है। इसलिए मुझे तो केवल अपना प्यारा हरि-नाम ही दीजिए।॥१ ॥

प्रभु तो प्रत्येक हृदय में विद्यमान है। वह समुद्र, धरती एवं गगन में गुप्त रूप से व्यापक है और गुरु के शब्द द्वारा उसके दर्शन करके कृतार्थ हुआ जा सकता है।॥ रहाउ ॥

गुरु-सतगुरु ने कृपा करके मृत्युलोक, पाताल लोक एवं आकाश में उसके दर्शन करवा दिए हैं। वह अयोनि ब्रह्म वर्तमान में भी है और भविष्य में भी विद्यमान रहेगा। इसलिए अपने हृदय में ही मुरारि प्रभु के दर्शन करो ॥ २॥

बेचारी यह दुनियां तो जन्म मरण के चक्र में ही पड़ी हुई है, चूंकि इसने द्वैतभाव में फंसकर प्रभु-भक्ति को ही भुला दिया है। जब सतगुरु मिल जाता है तो ही ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है, किन्तु शाक्त मनुष्य ने भक्ति के बिना अपनी जीवन की बाजी हार दी है।॥३॥

सतिगुरु ने मेरे बन्धन तोड़कर मुझे मुक्त कर दिया है और अब मैं गर्भ-योनि में नहीं आऊँगा। हे नानक ! अब मेरे हदय में ज्ञान-रत्न का प्रकाश हो गया है और निराकार प्रभु ने मेरे मन में निवास कर लिया है।॥४ ॥८ ॥

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ( Tu Prabh Data Daan Mat Pura ) ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਖੁੰਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ। (ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂ।੧।

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਪਾਤਾਲ (ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ, (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖ।੨।

ਇਹ ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵ (ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ) ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।

ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ ਚਮਕ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ (ਆਪ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੮।
