ਆਸਾ ॥ ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਨੇ ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਲਘ ਨਿਵਾਰਾ ॥ ਕਾਹੂ ਗਰੀ ਗੋਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਖਾਨ ਪਰਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਅਹਿਰਖ ਵਾਦੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਕੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਜੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਗੂੰਧੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਲਾਈ ॥ ਕਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਮੁਕਤਾਹਲ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਸੂਮਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਸਦਾਵੈ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੪॥ ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਝੂਠੀ ॥ ਚਿਰਗਟ ਫਾਰਿ ਚਟਾਰਾ ਲੈ ਗਇਓ ਤਰੀ ਤਾਗਰੀ ਛੂਟੀ ॥੫॥੩॥੧੬॥ ਆਸਾ ॥
English Translation
Asa ( Kaahu Deene Paat Patambar )
The Lord has bestowed some people with all the comforts of life like silken beds and cushioned cots for taking rest; as opposed to this some poor people are not having even have torn and tottered beds so that they sleep even on the shack of food grains. (1)
Oh, my mind! Do not pick up quarrels or feel jealous of others, instead, you should perform good and noble deeds, reciting the Lord's True Name, while earning your living through honest means. (pause-1)
The Lord has created so many men of different shapes and forms just as the potter mixes the same earth but makes different types and shapes of earthenware, with different hues and colors. The Lord has blessed some persons with good qualities and bestowed upon them pearls of good character and even necklaces of good pearls with the (small or big) wealth of possessions. However, some others are made to engage themselves in vices like drinking wine. (2)
The miser is only made by the Lord to amass wealth as he is not supposed to spend any money, though the fool considers all the money as his own. But once he faces the dreadful god of death (Yama) with the baton struck on his head this fool (who considered all the wealth as his own) leaves everything behind and the whole thing becomes quite clear to him. (3)
The saintly persons, who serve the Lord, are known as great persons and honored everywhere and they enjoy all worldly pleasures and comforts by following the Lord's Will. They consider whatever Lord Wills and gives them as the right thing and accept Lord's dictates with full faith and due respect. (4)
O Kabir! Let the godly persons understand this point clearly that egoism and I-am-ness are all false and untrue as nothing belongs to us and everything is transient. Just as a cat attacks a cage and removes the sparrow leaving everything in the cage intact like the pot for serving food to the bird. Similarly, death removes the soul from the body, leaving everything else behind and the god of death, Yama strikes an individual with such a sudden blow that everything in left behind, and the soul is removed from the body which proceeds along with the Yama without any hitch. (5-3-16).

आसा ॥ काहू दीन्हे पाट पटंबर काहू पलघ निवारा ॥ काहू गरी गोदरी नाही काहू खान परारा ॥१॥ अहिरख वाद न कीजै रे मन ॥ सुकृत कर कर लीजै रे मन ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ कुम्हारै एक जु माटी गूंधी बहु बिध बानी लाई ॥ काहू महि मोती मुकताहल काहू ब्याध लगाई ॥२॥ सूमहि धन राखन कौ दीआ मुगध कहै धन मेरा ॥ जम का डंड मूंड महि लागै खिन महि करै निबेरा ॥३॥ हरि जन ऊतम भगत सदावै आज्ञा मन सुख पाई ॥ जो तिस भावै सत कर मानै भाणा मंन वसाई ॥४॥ कहै कबीर सुनहु रे संतहु मेरी मेरी झूठी ॥ चिरगट फार चटारा लै गयो तरी तागरी छूटी ॥५॥३॥१६॥

भगवान ने किसी को रेशमी वस्त्र प्रदान किए हुए हैं तथा किसी को निवार वाले पलंग दिए हुए हैं।
लेकिन किसी को जीर्ण गुदड़ी भी नहीं मिली तथा किसी के पास घास-फूस की झोंपड़ी है॥ १॥
हे मेरे मन ! किसी से ईष्र्या एवं विवाद मत करो।
शुभ कर्म करने से ही कुछ (सुख) प्राप्त होता है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥
कुम्हार एक जैसी मिट्टी गूंधता है और अनेक विधियों से बर्तनों को रंग देता है।
किसी में वह मोती एवं मोतियों की माला डाल देता है और दूसरों में वह व्याधि वाली शराब डाल देता है॥ २॥
कंजूस आदमी को प्रभु ने धन सँभालने हेतु अमानत के तौर पर दिया है परन्तु वह मूर्ख कहता है कि यह धन तो मेरा अपना है।
जब यम का दण्ड उसके सिर पर पड़ता है तो एक क्षण में ही निर्णय हो जाता है अर्थात् जब मनुष्य का देहांत हो जाता है तो धन वही रह जाता है॥ ३॥
हरि का सेवक उत्तम भक्त कहलवाता है और वह हरि की आज्ञा मानकर सुख प्राप्त करता है।
जो हरि को अच्छा लगता है, वह सत्य मानकर स्वीकृत करता है और ईश्वरेच्छा को वह अपने मन में बसाता है॥ ४॥
कबीर जी कहते हैं कि हे संतजनो ! सुनो, यह मैं-मेरी की रट झूठी है क्योंकि
मृत्यु (जीवात्मा रूपी) पक्षी के पिंजरे (रूपी शरीर) को फाड़कर आत्मा को ले जाती है और निर्जीव शरीर रूपी धागे वहीं टूट जाते हैं।॥ ५॥ ३॥ १६॥

ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਪੱਟ ਤੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਲੰਘ ॥
ਕਈਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਗਲੀ ਸੜੀ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਈਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਕੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
ਈਰਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਖੇੜਾ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ!
ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨੂਏ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ॥
ਘੁਮਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੰਨ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਕਈਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੜੀਆਂ ਜੜ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੰਦ ਬਲਾ ਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਕੰਜੂਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਸਾਂਭਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਜਦ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਮੁੰਗਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇੱਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੰਤ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁੱਛ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰੋ, ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਕੂੜੀ ਹੈ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੀ ॥
ਪੰਛੀ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਮੌਤ ਪੰਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਧੂਗੇ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
