English Translation¹

Bilawal Mahala Pehla ( Man Mandir Tan Vais Kalandar... )

O Nanak! I have controlled this mind in my body itself, and I wear the robes of a saint only. The faqirs and mendicants visit various holy places of pilgrimage whereas my controlling the mind within itself is like bathing at holy places. I have escaped going through the cycle of births and deaths, as the Lord abides within my inner-self (within my soul) The Lord is my only support as He abides within my heart. (1)

Oh, my mother! (O holy saints)! I have inculcated the love of the Lord in my heart and am imbued with the love of the lotus feet of the Lord. But how could anyone know the anguish and suffering of someone else? So I do not realize the sufferings of my near and dear ones. I am not bothered about others, so why should I wail and cry for the sake of others? (Pause 1)

The True Master is pervading everywhere quite distinct from us being too deep for a probe, and beyond our comprehension, in a limitless form, and beyond any count or description. He looks after the sustenance of all, arranging food and drinks for all the beings. O True Master! You are pervading everywhere including all lands, oceans, Earth, the sky, and ethereal space in a perfect form and Your light is shining within all the souls with all its force. (2)

O True Master! My body has only Your support and all my (teachings) studies, intelligence, and wisdom is a result of Your blessings and favours. O Lord! I do not recognise any other power except You, and always (daily) sing Your praises only, without worshipping anyone else. (3)

O Nanak ! All the beings, big and small, have sought refuge at the lotus-feet of the Lord, who only cares for their maintenance and sustenance. O True Lord! I only pray to you to enable me to accept Your Will with pleasure and whatever pleases You. May I be enabled to follow Your Will, accepting Your dictates as sacrosanct! (4-2)

बिलावल महला १ ॥ मन मंदर तन वेस कलंदर घट ही तीरथ नावा ॥ एक सबद मेरै प्रान बसत है बाहुड़ जनम न आवा ॥१॥ मन बेधिआ दयाल सेती मेरी माई ॥ कौण जाणै पीर पराई ॥ हम नाही चिंत पराई ॥१॥ रहाओ ॥ अगम अगोचर अलख अपारा चिंता करहु हमारी ॥ जल थल महीअल भरिपुर लीणा घट घट जोत तुम्हारी ॥२॥ सिख मत सभ बुध तुम्हारी मंदिर छावा तेरे ॥ तुझ बिन अवर न जाणा मेरे साहिबा गुण गावा नित तेरे ॥३॥ जीअ जंत सभ सरण तुम्हारी सरब चिंत तुध पासे ॥ जो तुध भावै सोई चंगा इक नानक की अरदासे ॥४॥२॥

Meaning in Hindi²

( Man Mandir Tan Vais Kalandar... ) मेरा मन (भगवान के निवास के लिए) एक मंदिर बन गया है, मेरा शरीर (यानी, मेरी प्रत्येक इंद्रिय मंदिर का दौरा कर रही है) रमता साधु बन गई है (यानी, मेरी इंद्रियां बाहर भटकने से रुक गई हैं)। निवासी भगवान के पास लौट आए हैं), अब मैं केवल हृदय-तीर्थ पर स्नान करता हूं। भगवान की स्तुति का वचन मेरे जीवन में बस गया है (मेरे जीवन का सहारा बन गया है। इसलिए मुझे यकीन है कि) मेरा दोबारा जन्म नहीं होगा।1.

हे अगम्य! हे अगोचर! हे अदृश्य! हे अनंत भगवान! आप ही हम सभी प्राणियों की देखभाल करते हैं। जल में, थल में, आकाश में सर्वत्र आप व्याप्त हैं, प्रत्येक हृदय में आपका प्रकाश विद्यमान है।

हे मेरे परमदेव! सभी प्राणियों का मन और शरीर आपके द्वारा निर्मित है, सभी प्राणियों को शिक्षा, बुद्धि और समझ आपसे ही मिलती है। मैं आपके बराबर किसी और को नहीं जानता. मैं सदैव आपके गुण गाता हूँ 3.

सभी प्राणियों का आधार आप हैं, आप सभी की देखभाल के लिए चिंतित हैं। नानक की (आपसे) एक ही प्रार्थना है कि जो कुछ आपको अच्छा लगे, वही मेरे लिए अच्छा हो (मैं आपकी प्रसन्नता से सदैव संतुष्ट हूं) 4.2.

ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਨਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ।

ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ। ਦੂਜੇ ਦਾ ਦਰਦ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ? ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚਦਾ। ਵਿਰਾਮ.

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ, ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ, ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ। ਤੂੰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਜ਼ਮੀਨ, ਹੇਠਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਰਲੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੋਠੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਨ।

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ। ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ।
