Harh Mahine Di Sangrand Da Hukamnama

Hukamnama of Asarh month from Barah Maha Manjh - Gurbani of Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Asadh scorches those who love not God:
Forsaking the Sustainer of the Universe,

Those who look upon the mortals for support. Caught in duality, they have the noose of death around their neck.
They reap what they sow, Whatever is inscribed on their forehead and foretold.

The night of life having waxed,
They repent as they repair in despair.

Those who cultivate the Holy They are liberated at the Portal of the Master Old.
Pray, do be kind to me, I long to have a glimpse of You. I have none other than God to hold.
This is Nanak's plea. He enjoys Asadh to his heart's content At the feet of the Deity Who comes to unfold. (5)

Harh Di Sangrand Da Hukamna: Punjabi Translation

June Month' Hukamnama: Detailed English Translation

(Asarh Month: June) ( Asar Tapanda Tis Lagai Har Naho Na Jina Paas )

The month of Asar is sweltering and miserable for those beings, who are bereft of the Lord's love and True Name; as they pin their hopes on others (sons, family, wealth) forgetting the merciful Lord, the bestower of this life even. They suffer miseries during their lives due to their dual-mindedness (forgetting the Lord) and finally land up in the bondage of Yama. (cycle of births and deaths) Whatever one sows, one reaps (like the farmer), so everyone begets in this world according to one's actions, based on the fortune predestined by the Lord's Will.

Man spends this life without the love and the care of the Lord-spouse and while leaving this world (at the time of death) repents and feels disappointed. (just as the bride who spends the night without the love of her spouse, repents and feels disappointed) But the persons, who come in contact with the holy saints (the Guru), proceed to the next world without any encumbrances and are saved from the gallows of the god of death. (Yama) O Lord! Pray to grant me through Your Grace the boon of Your embrace and vision for which I am yearning.

O Nanak! I have only one prayer to the Lord to grant me the favour of His Grace and vision, as I have none else to support me. The month of Asar is enjoyable and useful for the person who teaches the love of the Lord in his heart and meditates on the True Name of the Lord.

Hindi Translation
