ਬਾਰਹ ਮਾਹਾ ਮਾਂਝ – Hukamnama of Chetar di Sangrand

ਚੇਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਘਣਾ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਣਾ ॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਗਣਾ ॥
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਣਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਣਾ ॥
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਰਵਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਣਾ ॥
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਕਿਤੜਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਣਾ ॥
ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਣਾ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੰਉ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਮਨਾ ॥
ਚੇਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਸਕੈ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਾ ॥੨॥

Translation (English)

Chet Govind arādhi-ai hovai anand ghanā.
Sant janā mil pā-ee-ai rasnā nām bhanā.
Jin pā-i-ā prabh āpṇā ā-e tisahi ghanā.
Ik khin tis bin jīvṇā birthā janam janā.
Jal thal mahīal pūri-ā ravi-ā vich vaṇā.
So prabh chit na āv-ī kitṛā dukh ghanā.
Jinī rāvi-ā so prabhū tinnā bhāg maṇā.
Har darsan kaun man lochdā Nānak pi-ās manā.
Chet milā-e so prabhū tiskai pā-e lagā. ॥2॥

In the month of Chet, meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and great happiness shall arise.
Meeting with the saints, one obtains Him, and chants His Name with the tongue.
Those who have found their Lord and Master, are counted among the fortunate.
Living even one moment without Him is a worthless life.
He is pervading and permeating the water, the land, and the sky; He is imbued in the woods and fields.
That Lord does not come into my consciousness — what a great pain this is!
Those who have enshrined that Lord in their hearts — their destiny is blessed and fruitful.
My mind longs for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. O Nanak, my soul is filled with this thirst.
Whoever meets with that Lord in the month of Chet — I fall at their feet. ॥2॥

Devanagari Transliteration

चेति गोविंद अराधीऐ होवै आनंद घणा।
संत जना मिलि पाईऐ रसना नाम भणा।
जिनि पाया प्रभु आपणा आए तिसहि गणा।
इक खिन तिस बिन जीवणा बिरथा जनमु जना।
जलि थलि महीअलि पूरिया रविआ विचि वणा।
सो प्रभु चिति न आवई कितड़ा दुखु गणा।
जिनी राविआ सो प्रभू तिन्ना भागु मणा।
हरि दरसन कउ मनु लोचदा नानक पिआस मना।
चेति मिलाए सो प्रभू तिसकै पाए लगा॥२॥

Hindi Translation

चैत्र के महीने में, गोविंद (ईश्वर) का स्मरण करो, और अपार आनंद प्राप्त होगा।
संतों के संग में, प्रभु को पाया जा सकता है, और जीभ से उसका नाम जपा जाता है।
जिन्होंने अपने प्रभु को पा लिया, वे धन्य हैं।
उसके बिना एक पल भी जीना, व्यर्थ जीवन के समान है।
वह प्रभु जल, थल और आकाश में व्याप्त है; वह जंगलों और मैदानों में भी समाया है।
पर वह प्रभु मेरे मन में नहीं बसता — यह कितना बड़ा दुख है!
जिन्होंने उस प्रभु को प्राप्त किया है, वे सौभाग्यशाली हैं।
मेरा मन प्रभु के दर्शन को तरसता है, नानक कहता है — मेरा मन प्यासा है।
जो इस चेत महीने में उस प्रभु से मिलते हैं — मैं उनके चरणों में सिर झुकाता हूँ॥२॥

ਚੇਤੁ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਭਲਾ ਭਵਰ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ॥ ਬਨ ਫੂਲੇ ਮੰਝ ਬਾਰਿ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜੈ ॥
ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ਧਨ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਰੋਧ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
ਕੋਕਿਲ ਅੰਬਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਬੋਲੈ ਕਿਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਹੀਜੈ ॥ ਭਵਰੁ ਭਵੰਤਾ ਫੂਲੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਏ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਚੇਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਧਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥

Romanized Translation

Chet basant bhala bhavar suhawṛe.
Ban foole manjh baar mai pir ghar baahurhai.
Pir ghar nahi aavai dhan kio sukh paavai, birah birodh tan chhijai.
Kokil ambi suhaavi bolai, kio dukh ank sahijai.
Bhavar bhavanta phooli daali, kio jeeva maru maa-e.
Nanak chet sahaj sukh paavai, je Har var ghar dhan paa-e. ॥5॥

English:

In the month of Chet, spring is beautiful, and the bumblebees are lovely.
The forest blooms, and among those blossoms, I wish my Beloved would return home.
But if my Beloved does not come home, how can I find peace? My body withers away in the fire of separation.
The koel sings sweetly from the mango tree — but how can I endure this pain on my chest?
The bumblebee hovers over the blossoming branch — how can I survive, O mother, when I'm dying inside?
O Nanak, in Chet, one attains tranquil peace only if the Husband Lord comes home to the soul-bride. ॥5॥

Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)

चेतु बसंत भला भवर सुहावड़े।
बन फूले मंज बाऱ मैं पिरु घरि बाहुड़ै।
पिरु घरि नहीं आवै धन किउ सुख पावै, बिरह विरोध तनु छीजै।
कोकिल अंबि सुहावी बोलै, किउ दुखु अंकि सहींजै।
भवरु भवंता फूली डाली, किउ जीवा मरु माए।
नानक चेति सहजि सुखु पावै, जे हरि वरु घरि धन पाए ॥५॥

चेत महीने में बसंत बहुत सुंदर होता है और भंवरे मनमोहक लगते हैं।
जंगल खिले हुए हैं, इन फूलों के बीच मेरी कामना है कि मेरा प्रिय घर वापस आए।
अगर प्रिय घर नहीं आता, तो दुल्हन को कैसे शांति मिले? विरह के दुःख में उसका शरीर कमजोर हो जाता है।
कोयल आम के पेड़ पर मधुर गीत गाती है — यह दुःख मैं कैसे सहन करूं?
भंवरा खिले हुए डाली पर मंडरा रहा है — मैं कैसे जीवित रहूं, हे मां? मैं तो मरी जा रही हूं।
हे नानक! चेत महीने में वही सच्चा सुख पाता है जिसे उसका परमप्रिय प्रभु, पति-स्वरूप, घर में मिल जाता है। ॥५॥
