ਜਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ

English Translation

Slok Mahalla 3rd

( Jin Kou Satgur Bhetia... ) O, Brother! The persons, who have been united with the True Guru, are always engaged in singing the praises of the Lord including the Guru's Word. They are always immersed in the Guru's Word as the Lord's love is inculcated in their hearts without any fear. Such Guru-minded persons attain salvation themselves and help others as well towards salvation. The Lord is pleased with the persons, who have sought refuge at the lotus-feet of the Guru. O, Nanak! I am the slave and devotee of the Lord, who has protected my honor through His Grace. (1)

Mahalla - 3rd

The egoism is like a noise within and the self-willed person is full of this noi~e within his heart, and his whole life is spent in this noise but there is no end to this egoism. This egoism is such a great malady that causes man to pass through the cycle of births and deaths. However, the fortunate Guru-minded persons; who are predestined by the Lord's Will, are enabled to unite with the True Guru (to join the company of).

O, Nanak! We would cross this ocean of life successfully through the Guru's Word, when we are blessed with the Guru's Grace, which has (burnt) cast away this egoism, thus (merging) uniting us with the Lord, giving us peace of mind. (2)

Pouri

The Lord's ·True Name is our protector, being everything in life, which no man has been able to gain, as it cannot be seen or felt with all the senses, is not perishable, and it is True-Name alone which bestows all the benedictions on us. We always serve the True Name of the Lord and worship the True Name only, (instead of gods or goddesses) and the True Name is inculcated in the heart also so that we are always immersed in True Name.

We do not find anything else as great as True Name as this True Name only saves us from the noose of the Yama in the end. The Guru is our greatest benefactor, has blessed us with this True Name, as the Guru always bestows His favors on us. The mother and father of the Guru are really praise-worthy. I always salute the True Guru, whose company has enabled me to recite the True Name. (16)

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਤਗੜਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਫੇਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਭੀ) ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ('ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ' ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਪਉੜੀ

ਜੋ ਹਰੀ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਨਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਡਾ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈ; ਅਸੀ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਂਵਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਨ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਜੇਡਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਛਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ, ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਪਈ ਹੈ।੧੬।

श्लोक महला ३॥

जिनकी सतिगुरु से भेंट हो जाती है, वे सर्वदा हरि का कीर्ति-गान करते रहते हैं।
उनके मन में अचिंत हरि का नाम निवास कर लेता है और वे सच्चे-शब्द में समा जाते हैं।
जिसके फलस्वरूप वे अपने वंश का उद्धार कर देते हैं और स्वयं मोक्ष पदवी को प्राप्त कर लेते हैं।
जो श्रद्धालु गुरु के चरणों में आए हैं, परब्रह्म-परमेश्वर उन पर खुश हो गया है।
नानक तो हरि का दास है और हरि अपनी कृपा करके उसकी लाज-प्रतिष्ठा बरकरार रखता है॥ १॥

महला ३॥

अहंकारवश मनुष्य के भीतर परेशानी ही बनी रहती है और इस असमंजस में वह अपना जीवन दुःखों में बिता देता है।
अहंकार एक भयानक रोग है, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप वह मरता है, पुनः जन्म लेता है और दुनिया में आता जाता रहता है।
विधाता ने जिनकी तकदीर में लिखा होता है, उसे सतगुरु -प्रभु मिल जाता है।
हे नानक ! गुरु की अपार कृपा से उनका उद्धार हो जाता है और शब्द के माध्यम से वे अपने अहंकार को जला देते हैं।॥ २ ॥

पउड़ी॥

हरि का नाम हमारा प्रभु है जो अविगत, अगोचर, अनश्वर, परमपुरुष, विधाता है।
हम हरि के नाम की ही वन्दना करते हैं, हरि के नाम की ही पूजा करते हैं और हमारा मन हरि के नाम में ही मग्न रहता है।
हरि के नाम जैसा कोई दूसरा नहीं सूझता, क्योंकि हरि का नाम ही अन्त में मोक्ष दिलवाता है।
जिस परोपकारी गुरु ने हमें हरि का नाम दिया है, उस गुरु के माता-पिता धन्य-धन्य हैं।
मैं अपने सतिगुरु को हमेशा नमन करता रहता हूँ, जिनके साथ भेंट करने से मुझे हरि के नाम का ज्ञान हुआ है॥ १६॥
