ਸਲੋਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਇਕ ਟਹਿਲੂਆ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਦੇਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਵੇ, ਤਦ ਕੁਝ ਕੁ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥

ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਛ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੇਵਲ ਮੂੰਹ-ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਦੇਖੋ ॥ ਇਹ ਕਿਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਹੈ ॥

ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਥ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਹਿੰਦੀ ॥ ਜੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਣਯ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੇਖ ਲਵੇ ॥ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ (ਵਿੱਚ ਪਈ) ਦੂਸਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਰ੍ਹੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਤੌਰਤ ਉੱਤੇ) ਵੱਡੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ, ਜਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਕਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੁਰਾ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਖੋਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥

ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਇੱਕ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਬੰਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਚੀਜ ਦਰੁਸਤ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਲਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਟੁਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰੀ ਭੀ ਦੁਗਣੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਰਾਜਗੀ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੋਟੀ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਐਨ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜੀਹਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਓ ਆਪਾਂ ਐਨ ਆਫਰੀਨ ਆਖੀਏ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਕੇਵਲ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੀ ਕਾਰਗਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥

Slok Mahala 2nd ( Chakar Lage Chakri Naale Garab Vaad... )

O Nanak! The follower, who indulges in argument and wrangling with the Master due to ego, does not gain the nectar of the True Name of the Lord. However, when the follower gives up his ego and engages himself in the service of the Master, he is received with honor in the Lord's Presence. Once the follower serves the Master with body and mind, he gets united with the Lord, as he is accepted by the Lord now in his Court. But this status is gained by the complete self-surrender of the follower.

Mahala 2nd: Whatever man desires within his heart is given out as the speech gets relayed with the speed of the wind. How could a person sow the seeds of poison? look for nectar as the reward? There is no justification for a man, who indulges in causing suffering to others, to expect joy or comforts in return. "Whatever you sow, so shall you reap!"

Mahala 2nd: If you develop a friendship with a person who is not very clever or intelligent then the love maintained between the two, could not be sustained for long. If your mind follows the unintelligent friend, it would not lead to a successful end; in fact, the friend would be able to guide you only to the extent he possesses knowledge, which could easily be checked up. The true state of the mind will always lead to vicious thoughts or simple actions, whatever you may say; or however hard you may try. If a utensil is already full up with something; then this has to be removed before trying to accommodate another item in the same container. So we have to eliminate the vicious thoughts from the mind before accepting any virtuous thoughts or good advice. O Nanak! It is always advisable to accept the dictates of such a Master and request Him for anything rather than indulging in commanding the Lord for any requirements; the best is to agree in toto to the Lord's directions (dictates).

The mind gets peace and joy by singing the praises of the Lord. But if someone were to engage in falsehood, he would reap the reward of falsehood only, and he would be known as a liar or false person all around. (3)

Mahala 2nd: Developing love for an unintelligent friend or developing love and friendship for a rich person is just like drawing a line in the water, which does not have any existence or any meaning(4)

Mahala 2nd: If an unintelligent person engages in some business without any interest, then he would lose his capital investment and would run into losses, Even if he were to perform a particular job profitably, he would lose in the next job, due to his casual approach, and even the capital investment is lost.(5)

Pouri: The servant who follows the Master's dictates fully, and serves Him, gets honored in the Lord's Court and gets double the amount as his wages; he would feel ashamed when he tries to equal the Master in authority. Then he loses his wages also and gets a bad name with admonition from others. O Nanak! Let us thank the Master whose benedictions and favors are being utilized by us. It does not behoove us to order the Lord, instead, we should always pray to Him with folded hands, which the Lord accepts. (So We should follow the Lord's dictates, and thank the Unseen Lord by singing His Praises). (22)

श्लोक महला २ ॥ यदि कोई सेवक अपने मालिक की सेवा करता है और साथ ही अभिमानी, विवादास्पद झगड़ालू है। यदि वह अधिकतर बातें बनाता है तो वह अपने मालिक की प्रसन्नता का पात्र नहीं होता। लेकिन यदि वह अपना अहंकार मिटाकर सेवा करे तो कुछ मान-सम्मान प्राप्त कर लेता है। हे नानक ! वह मनुष्य अपने उस मालिक से मिल जाता है, जिसकी सेवा में जुटा हुआ है, उसकी लगन स्वीकृत हो जाती है॥ १॥

महला २ ॥ जो (संकल्प) दिल में होता है, वह (कर्मों के रूप में) प्रगट हो जाता है। मुंह से कही बात तो हवा की तरह महत्वहीन होती है। मनुष्य विष बोता है परन्तु अमृत,माँगता है। देखो ! यह कैसा न्याय है ॥ २ ॥

महला २॥ मूर्ख के साथ मित्रता कदापि ठीक नहीं होती। जैसा वह जानता है, वैसा ही वह करता है। चाहे कोई इसका निर्णय करके देख ले। किसी वस्तु में दूसरी वस्तु तभी समा सकती है, यद्यपि पहले पड़ी हुई वस्तु को निकाल दिया जाए। प्रभु के समक्ष हुक्म करना सफल नहीं होता, अपितु उसके समक्ष तो विनम्र प्रार्थना ही करनी चाहिए। हे नानक ! छल-कपट की कमाई करने से छल-कपट ही हासिल होता है। लेकिन प्रभु का यशोगान करने से प्राणी प्रसन्न हो जाता है।॥ ३ ॥

महला २॥ अज्ञानी व्यक्ति के साथ मित्रता एवं बड़े आदमी के साथ प्रेम जल में लकीर की भाँति है, जिसका कोई अस्तित्व ही नहीं रहता॥ ४॥

महला २॥ यदि एक नासमझ व्यक्ति कोई कार्य करे तो वह इसे सम्पूर्ण नहीं कर सकता। यदि एकाध भला काम कर भी ले तो वह दूसरा विगाड़ देता है॥ ५॥

पउड़ी॥ जो सेवक अपने स्वामी की इच्छानुसार चले तो ही मानो कि वह अपने स्वामी की नौकरी कर रहा है, इससे एक तो उसे बड़ा मान-सम्मान मिलेगा, दूसरा वेतन भी स्वामी से दुगुना प्राप्त करेगा। यदि वह अपने स्वामी की बराबरी करता है तो वह मन में लज्जित ही होता है। परिणामस्वरूप अपनी पहली कमाई भी गंवा लेता है और सदा जूते खाता है। जिसका दिया हम खाते हैं, उसका हमें कोटि-कोटि आभार व्यक्त करना चाहिए। हे नानक ! प्रभु के समक्ष हुक्म नहीं सफल होता अपितु उसके समक्ष विनम्र प्रार्थना ही कारगर होती है।॥ २२॥
