ਆਸਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਛੰਦ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ) ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੰਮਣ ਤੇ ਮਰਣ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਨਸ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਖੂਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਮ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜੀਠ ਦੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਓਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਮਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਣਮੁੱਲੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਤੇ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਾਲਕ, ਕਾਮਲ, ਸੁਹਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਾਂ ਮੁਕਦੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ॥ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ (ਏਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਦਰ, ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਮੀਹ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੌਲਤ, ਖਜਾਨੇ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਵੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਲਾਡਲਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਿਠੜਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ॥ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਸ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਕੀ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ, ਮੈਂ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਲਮ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੇ ਸੁਟ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ, ਮੀਹ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿੱਠੜਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਯੋਧੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਵਹਿਮ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਮਿਸਮਾਰ ਹੋ (ਢੱਠ) ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ, ਦੀ ਆਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਆਰੰਭ, ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਹਣਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੇ-ਇਨਤਹਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ, ਆਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥

( Har Charan Kamal Man Bedhia Kichh Aan Na Meetha...)

"By the Grace of one Supreme Lord, Truth personified, & attainable through the Guru's guidance."

The person, who is imbued with the love of the Lord and whose heart is completely immersed at the lotus feet of the Lord, does not like worldly possessions anymore. In fact, such persons have meditated on True Name in the company of holy saints so that they have perceived the same Lord pervading everywhere and in every being in equal measure. Once they have inculcated the nectar of the Lord's True Name in their hearts, they have perceived the Lord (omnipresent) equally in all beings which has cast away all their sufferings, including the cycle of births and deaths. Now they have sung the praises of the Lord, with all afflictions disappearing and the knot of egoism has also been loosened and they have perceived the Lord in the state of Equipoise. They have been fully imbued with the Lord's love which is permanent like the hue of Majeeth and they never forsake the remembrance of the Lord, thus enjoying the bliss all the time. O Nanak! They now serve the True Master, taking refuge at the holy feet of the Lord, and meditate on True Name leaving aside all other interests. (1)

Just as a fish is enamoured with water so much, that it cannot be separated from it even for a moment; similarly saintly persons are so much engrossed in the Lord's True Name that they cannot bear its separation even for a moment. They have been enlightened by the Guru's teachings so much that they have now realized the path of salvation by meditating on the True Name of the Lord. The persons, who have been united with the Lord, have attained salvation through the Grace of the Lord Enlightener. (The Lord is ever so beautiful, smart and most intelligent, who understands everything). Once they attained such a jewel of True Name, they got united with the Lord and now their heart is fully attuned to the Lord so that they do not run after other worldly possessions. The Lord is ever so beautiful, smart and intelligent, who appreciates everything and whose favours are limitless. O Nanak! The Guru-minded persons always remain immersed in True Name with full satisfaction, just like the fish enjoying full satisfaction in the deep waters. (2)

Just as the Papiha (toad) craves rainwater in deep love, similarly the saints have made the Lord's True Name as their mainstay in life's struggle. In fact, as compared to their worldly possessions and son, brother or friend, they have developed more love and devotion for the Lord's True Name. No one knows the secrets of the Great Lord, who is most lovable, distinct and strange as compared to others. I have only one prayer to the Lord that I may never forget such a Lord even for a moment while breathing or taking a morsel (in the mouth) of food and may forever be immersed in the Lord's love through the Guru's guidance. The Lord is our benefactor, bestowing life on us, and whose nectar of True Name is partaken by all the holy saints and whose True Name is a great healer, removing all our sufferings, including misgivings and dual-mindedness. O Nanak! The Lord's saints also love the True Name and are satiated with it just as the Papiha (toad) craves for the rainwater. (3)

O friend! The persons, who have been united with the Lord through meditation of True Name, by the Guru's Grace, have got all their desires fulfilled. By serving the Guru, they have been successful in demolishing the wall separating them from the Lord but this has been made possible through their good fortune and the pre-destined Will of the Lord by meeting the perfect Guru. This resulted in complete enlightenment of the mind and attainment of the treasure of True Name, along with the knowledge that the Lord has been ever-existent at the beginning of time and ages, during the ages, and at the end also in the same beauteous form. Such Guru-minded persons, enjoy the bliss in the state of equipoise by taking the dust of the lotus feet of the holy saints in the company of the Guru who could purify us and grant peace and tranquillity of mind. O Nanak! Once we are united with the Lord through the Guru's guidance and Grace, we have realized the ideal of life in this world, along with the fulfilment of all our worldly desires. (4-1-3)

अर्थ:

ईश्वर एक ही है, सच्चे गुरु की कृपा से वह प्राप्त हो जाता है।

भगवान के चरण कमलों से मेरा मन छलनी हो गया है और भगवान राजा के अलावा कोई भी मुझे प्रिय नहीं है। संत समाज से मिलकर मैं भगवान का ध्यान करता हूं और सभी के हृदयों में प्रभु का दर्शन करता हूं। मैं हर दिल में भगवान को देखता हूं और भगवान का अमृत मुझ पर बरसता है, और मेरा जन्म और मृत्यु का दर्द दूर हो गया है। गुणों के भण्डार भगवान की स्तुति करने से मेरा सारा दुःख नष्ट हो जाता है और मेरे अभिमान की गाँठ खुल जाती है। अपने स्वाभाविक स्वभाव के कारण मेरा प्रियतम मुझे छोड़कर कहीं नहीं जाता और मेरी आत्मा पागलपन का तीव्र रंग धारण कर चुकी है। प्रभु के चरणों ने नानक के मन को छलनी कर दिया है और अब उन्हें कुछ भी अच्छा नहीं लगता।

जैसे मछली जल को प्रिय मानती है, वैसे ही मैं प्रभु राजा के अमृत से मतवाला हो गया हूँ। पूर्ण गुरु ने मुझे निर्देश दिया है और मैं अपने प्रभु से प्रेम करता हूँ; राजा, जिसने मुझे वर्तमान मोक्ष का आशीर्वाद दिया है। वे, जिन्हें हृदयों के ज्ञाता भगवान, अपनी स्कर्ट से जोड़ते हैं, जीवित रहते हुए मोक्ष प्राप्त करते हैं। ईश्वर एक अमूल्य धन है, और सभी के बीच प्रकट और पूर्ण रूप से समाहित है, और वह उन्हें त्याग कर कहीं और नहीं जाता है, भगवान स्वामी निपुण, सुंदर और मेधावी (बुद्धिमान) हैं और उनकी कृपा समाप्त नहीं होती है। मछली पानी से तृप्त होती है, और इसलिए नानक भगवान में लीन हो जाते हैं।

जैसे पपीहा वर्षा की बूंद के लिए तरसता है, वैसे ही भगवान राजा, मेरे जीवन का सहारा है। प्रभु मुझे समस्त धन, धन, पुत्र, भाई और मित्र से भी अधिक प्रिय हैं। विरक्त भगवान मुझे सभी से अधिक प्रिय हैं और उनकी स्थिति को कोई नहीं समझ सकता। मैं भगवान को एक सांस और एक कण के लिए भी नहीं भूलता, और गुरु के निर्देश के तहत मैं उनके प्रेम का आनंद लेता हूं। पूर्ण गुरु ब्रह्मांड का जीवन है और संत उसका अमृत पीते हैं और उस पर ध्यान करके अपने संदेह, सांसारिक प्रेम और संकट को दूर कर देते हैं। जैसे पपीहा वर्षा की बूंद के लिए तरसता है, वैसे ही भगवान नानक को प्रिय हैं।

मेरे प्रभु स्वामी, राजा से मिलकर, मेरी इच्छा पूरी हो गई है। हे राजा, वीर गुरु के मिलने से संदेह की दीवार ढह जाती है। पूर्ण गुरु ईश्वर की शाश्वत आज्ञा से प्राप्त होता है। जो सारे खज़ाने का दाता है और नम्र लोगों पर दयालु है। आदि, मध्य, अंत में वही एकमात्र, सुंदर और महान भगवान, विश्व-पालक है। संतों के चरणों की धूल पापियों को पवित्र करती है और असीम आनंद, शांति और खुशी प्रदान करती है। सर्वव्यापी भगवान नानक से मिले हैं, और उनकी इच्छा पूरी हुई है।
