1. English Translation
Slok ( Raj Kaptang Roop Kaptung )
O, Nanak! This human being is always amassing the filth of (kingdom) riches, or the filth of beauty, or the filth of wealth, along with the dirt of egoism, vicious and deceitful actions, and other flaws or shortcomings but all these possessions do not accompanyhimafterdeathexceptthewealthofLord'sTrueName.(1)
O, Brother! Why are you so enamoured with Tumma (bitter apple, or desert gourd) and misled, when this Tumma appears beautiful only for a while? O, Nanak! No one values this Maya (worldly falsehood) even worth a penny as this wealth does not accompany us at the end of this life.
O, Brother! What is the use of collecting (amassing) this wealth when it does not accompany us after death? Why should we go on collecting this wealth with so much effort, when we are sure to be separated from it? How could we be satiated (with it) by forsaking the Lord; moreover we could never attain happiness or bliss without the support of the True Name.
O, Nanak I We are likely to be thrown into hell by being engrossed in worldly pleasures (possessions) while forgetting the Lord's worship. O, Lord - benefactor! May You cast away our fear of death alongwith our vicious and sinful actions and unite us with Yourself. (10)

राज कपटं रूप कपटं धन कपटं कुल गरबतह ॥ संचंत बिखिया छलं छिद्रं नानक बिन हर संग न चालते ॥१॥ पेखंदड़ो की भुल तुमा दिसम सोहणा ॥ अढु न लहंदड़ो मुल नानक साथ न जुलई माया ॥२॥ पउड़ी ॥ चलदिआ नालि न चलै सो किउ संजीऐ ॥ तिस का कहु किआ जतन जिस ते वंजीऐ ॥ हर बिसरिऐ किओ त्रिपतावै ना मन रंजीऐ ॥ प्रभू छोड अन लागै नरक समंजीऐ ॥ होहो कृपाल दयाल नानक भओ भंजीऐ ॥१०॥

Meaning in Hindiमानव जीव अपने जीवन में जिस राज्य, सौन्दर्य, धन-दौलत एवं उच्च कुल का घमण्ड करता रहता है, दरअसल ये सभी प्रपंच मात्र छल-कपट ही हैं। वह बड़े छल-कपट एवं दोषों द्वारा विष रूपी धन संचित करता है। परन्तु हे नानक ! सत्य तो यही है कि परमात्मा के नाम-धन के सिवाय कुछ भी उसके साथ नहीं जाता॥ १॥
तूंबा देखने में बड़ा सुन्दर लगता है लेकिन मानव जीव इसे देखकर भूल में फंस जाता है। इस तूम्बे का एक कौड़ी मात्र भी मूल्य प्राप्त नहीं होता। हे नानक ! धन-दौलत जीव के साथ नहीं जाते ॥ २ ॥
गुरु साहिब का फुरमान है कि उस धन को हम क्यों संचित करें ? जो संसार से जाते समय हमारे साथ ही नहीं जाता। जिस धन को हमने इस दुनिया में ही छोड़कर चल देना है, बताओ, उसे प्राप्त करने के लिए हम क्यों प्रयास करें ? भगवान को भुलाकर मन कैसे तृप्त हो सकता है? यह मन भी प्रसन्न नहीं हो सकता।
जो इन्सान प्रभु को छोड़करं सांसारिक प्रपंचों में लीन रहता है, आखिरकार वह नरक में ही बसेरा करता है। नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हे दया के घर, परमेश्वर ! कृपालु होकर हमारा भय नष्ट कर दो ॥ १०॥
4. Translation in Punjabi
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! ਇਹ ਰਾਜ ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਤੇ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ-ਸਭ ਛਲ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਲਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਏਥੋਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਤੁੰਮਾ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਦਿੱਸਿਆ। ਕੀ ਇਹ ਉਕਾਈ ਲੱਗ ਗਈ ? ਇਸ ਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਅੱਧੀ ਕੌਡੀ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! (ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਕੌਡੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਏਥੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਭ, ਜੋ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੱਸੋ ਕੀਹ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ? ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ (ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ) ਰੱਜੀਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜੇ ਮਨ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਲਗਾਇਆਂ ਨਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਦਇਆ ਕਰ, ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ॥੧੦॥
