2. Punjabi Translation
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੩
“ਸੇਖਾ ਚਉਚਕਿਆ ਚਉਵਾਇਆ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਣਿ ॥”
ਹੇ ਸੇਖ (ਫਕੀਰ)! ਤੂੰ ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਟਕ ਤੇ ਦਿਖਾਵੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ-ਚਿੱਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਕ ਘਰ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾ।
“ਏਹੜ ਤੇਹੜ ਛਡਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥”
ਇਹ ਪਾਸੇ-ਉਹ ਪਾਸੇ ਭਟਕਣ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ।
“ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥”
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਿਮਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਢਹਿ ਪੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
“ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਲਾਇ ਤੂ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੁ ॥”
ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਨੋਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਸਾੜ ਦੇ, ਤੇ ਇਥੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਹਮਾਨ ਵਾਂਗ ਰਹਿ।
“ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਭੀ ਚਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਣੁ ॥”
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇਂ।
“ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਧਿਗੁ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਖਾਣੁ ॥੧॥”
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਨਣਾ ਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਵੀ ਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਲਾ ੩
“ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥”
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਦੇ ਘੱਟਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਕਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
“ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥”
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਉੜੀ
“ਹਰਿ ਚੋਲੀ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਢਿ ਪੈਧੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ॥”
ਜਦੋਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਲੀ ਬਣਾਈ, ਇਸਨੂੰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
“ਹਰਿ ਪਾਟੁ ਲਗਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਬਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ॥”
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਚੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਲਕੀਰਾਂ, ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
“ਕੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਣਹਾਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਕਰਿ ॥”
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਿਬੇਕ (ਸਹੀ ਸਮਝ) ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
“ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਹੁ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ॥”
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਉਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਸਮਝਾਵੇ।
“ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੧॥”
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ — ਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੋ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ।
3. English Translation
Slok Mahalla 3rd: ( Sekha Chauchakia Chauvaya )
O Sheikh, lacking knowledge, though acclaimed by the world! Try to bring your mind towards stability by concentrating on the Lord within your heart! Try to realize Truth through the Guru's Word by ridding yourself of a tilted and misconceived mind.
Then salute the Lord (True Guru) as He is omniscient and knows your inner feelings. Let us live in the world, like a traveler (guests), and burn away all our worldly hopes (desires) and worldly pursuits. O Nanak! Cursed be this life including the (wearing) clothes or delicious foods if we do not recite True Name! (1).
Mahalla 3rd: By describing the virtues of the Lord, there is no negative effect (deficiency) on His virtues, and no one could realize the real (true) Greatness or Status of the Lord or evaluate His real worth. O Nanak! The Guru-minded persons sing the praises of the Lord by discussing His virtues, while they are imbued with the love of the Lord, being immersed in His virtues. (2)
Pouri: This human frame (body) is like a small (shirt) worn, produced by the Lord, with the embroidery of the Lord's worship on it, to make it beautiful and thus embroidered with many beautiful flowers, it appears as an embodiment of the Lord.
But hardly any learned person realizes this secret, whosoever is enabled by the Lord Himself. O Nanak! I have my considered opinion that the Guru-minded persons always considered the Lord as Truth personified and being present there as ever-existent and omnipresent. (11)
4. English Poetic Version
Sloka Mahala 3rd
Oh Sheikh, with a wandering and wavering mind,
Let it be concentrated on single point.
Give up argumentation and disputation,
With the Holy Word yourself should you anoint.
Surrender yourself to the True Guru,
He is ever aware what to appoint.
Giving up longings and acquisitiveness,
Treat yourself as a guest without a bond.
He who does what he is ordained,
At the Divine Portal must flaunt.
Says Nanak, who meditate not on Name,
Accursed is their life, accursed what they want.
Mahala 3rd
There is no end to the Lord's merits,
They cannot be evaluated.
Says Nanak, the devotees laud the Lord's merits
In Him they remain simulated. (2)
Pauri
The Lord has created the bodice of the body with much devotion.
He has used a lot of silk for the sake of fashion.
It is only a man of keen understanding who does realise it,
With deep awareness of the Lord's mission. (11)
5. Hindi Translation of Sekha Chauchakia Chauvaya
श्लोक महला ३॥ ( Sekha Chauchakia Chauvaya ) हे चहुं दिशाओं में चारों तरफ हवा में उड़ने वाले शेख ! अपने इस मन को एक घर में स्थिर कर। तू छल-कपट करने वाली बातों को छोड़ दे और गुरु के शब्द की पहचान कर। हे शेख ! तू सतगुरु की शरण में आ जा, चूंकि वह सबकुछ जानते हैं।
तू अपनी आशा एवं मनसा को जला दे और इस दुनिया में चार दिनों का मेहमान बनकर ही रह। अब यदि तू सतगुरु की इच्छानुसार अनुसरण करे तो ही तुझे परमात्मा के दरबार में शोभा प्राप्त होगी। हे नानक ! जो व्यक्ति नाम का सिमरन नहीं करते, उनके रहन-सहन एवं भोजन को धिक्कार है॥ १॥
महला ३॥ परमात्मा के गुण अनन्त हैं और उनका मूल्यांकन वर्णन से परे है। हे नानक ! गुरुमुख ही परमात्मा का गुणगान करते हैं और उसकी महिमा में ही समाए रहते हैं।॥ २॥
पौड़ी। भगवान ने इस शरीर रूपी चोली का बड़ा सुन्दर निर्माण किया है और उसकी भक्ति द्वारा इस चोली की कढ़ाई करके ही मैं इसे पहनता हूँ। हरि-नाम का रेशम उस पर अनेक विधियों एवं अनेक ढंगों से लगा हुआ है।
कोई विरला ही बुद्धिमान पुरुष है जो अपने अन्तर्मन में विवेक द्वारा इस तथ्य को समझता है। लेकिन इस विवेक को वही पुरुष समझता है, जिसे भगवान स्वयं समझाता है। दास नानक यही विचार कहता है कि गुरुमुख हरि-परमेश्वर को सदैव सत्य समझते हैं।॥ ११॥

ਹੇ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼! ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਆ; ਵਿੰਗੀਆਂ ਟੇਢੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ। ਹੇ ਸ਼ੇਖਾ! ਜੋ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਜਾਣੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ; ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੌੜਾਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਸਮਝ; ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਲੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ (ਚੰਗਾ) ਖਾਣਾ ਤੇ (ਚੰਗਾ) ਪਹਿਨਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ।੧।
