1. English Translation

Slok Mahalla Panjva
( Kar Kirpa Kirpal Aape Bakhas Lai... )

O Lord-benefactor! May I be blessed with Your benevolence through Your Grace! May I always recite Your True Name by seeking the support and guidance of the True Guru, so that all my sufferings or afflictions are cast away (destroyed) by inculcating the love of the True Guru in my heart! (by falling at the lotus feet of the Guru). May You protect my honour with Your helping hand, getting me rid of my fear- complex. O Lord! May I be assigned with the only task of singing Your praises day and night! We could cast away the malady of egoism in the company of the holy saints. The same Lord-sublime is pervading the whole Universe, being omnipresent. We could realize the Truth and the True Lord through the Guru's Grace. O Lord-benefactor! May You bestow the boon of singing Your praises on me through Your benevolence! O Nanak! We have developed a love for having a glimpse of the Lord. (1)

Mahalla Pehla
Let us take refuge at the lotus feet of the one Lord-sublime and recite True Name with love and devotion. We should inculcate the love of the Lord alone in the heart, without looking up to some other power, which does not exist. Let us seek our requirements (needs) from the Lord-benefactor alone, who is capable of bestowing all the favours on us. Let us always recite the True Name of the one Lord-sublime with each breath and while taking each morsel of food, (at every moment of life). We could always attain the treasure of the nectar of True Name through the company of Guru-minded persons. The holy saints, who have inculcated the love of the Lord's True Name in the heart, are truly fortunate and pre-destined by the Lord's Will. The Lord is always pervading everywhere including lands, oceans and ethereal space, as there is no other second power. O Nanak! May I always recite the True Name of the Lord through the Guru's Word, by following the Lord's Will. (2)

Pouri
O Lord! Who else could inflict any harm (or death) on a person, who has the True Lord as His protector? The person, who has the protective care of the Lord, has won all three worlds. The person, who has the support of the Lord, gets honoured and acclaimed both here and hereafter. (always wins the battle of life and proceeds with flying colours to the Lord's presence). Whosoever has the company of the Lord or who is supported by the Lord, is always pure of heart being fully purified. The person, who is blessed with the Lord's Grace, does not have to account for his actions before the god of justice. The person, who has won the Lord's pleasure, attains all the nine treasures of the world. The person, who has the support and protection of the Lord, does not need anyone else's favours. The person, blessed with the Lord's Grace, is engaged in the Lord's worship. (8)

ਸਲੋਕ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਹੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ, ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਫੀ ਬਖਸ਼ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਸਾਂਈਂ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ॥ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੈਂਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੋੜ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਾਂ ॥ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ, ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਸੱਚਿਆਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਖਸ਼ ॥ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਗਦਗਦ ਹੋ ਵੰਝੇ ॥

ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਗੰਢ ॥ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜਾਚਨਾ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ॥ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਦੇ ਬੁਰਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ॥ ਨਾਮ-ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਭਾਰੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਧ-ਸਰੂਪ-ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੱਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਧਰਤੀ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਵਾਏ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ, ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ? ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਉਹ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਜਹਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਤਹ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਚਮਕੀਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚੇਹਰਾ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ਉਹ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੌ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਤਰਫ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਹੈ? ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!

सलोक, पंचम महला:
कृपालु परमात्मा, अपनी कृपा कर और मुझे क्षमा कर। मैं सदा-सदा तेरे नाम का जाप करूँ, सच्चे गुरु के चरणों में नतमस्तक रहूँ। तू मेरे मन और तन के भीतर निवास कर, ताकि मेरे सभी दुःख क्लेश नष्ट हो जाएँ। अपना हाथ बढ़ा और मेरी रक्षा कर, ताकि मुझे कोई भय न सताए। मुझे दिन-रात तेरी स्तुति गाने में लगा दे। संत जनों की संगति में मेरी हौमैं (अहंकार) का रोग दूर हो जाए। सर्वत्र और सबके भीतर एक ही स्वामी व्याप्त है। गुरु की कृपा से, सच्चे सत्य को पाया जा सकता है। हे दयालु, मुझ पर दया करो और मुझे अपनी महिमा का ज्ञान दो। तेरा दर्शन कर, मैं आनंदित हो जाऊँ, यही नानक की प्रीति है। १

महला ५: मन में एक ही परमात्मा का जाप करो और उसकी शरण लो। केवल उसी के साथ प्रेम करो, किसी दूसरे के पास मत जाओ। सिर्फ एक ही दाता से सब कुछ माँगो, और उससे सब कुछ प्राप्त होगा। मन, तन, श्वास, और अन्न के साथ, केवल एक परमात्मा का ध्यान करो। अमृत नाम, सच्चा खजाना, गुरु के माध्यम से ही प्राप्त किया जा सकता है। वे संतजन बहुत भाग्यशाली होते हैं, जिनके मन में परमात्मा का वास होता है। जल, थल, और आकाश में, हर जगह केवल एक ही परमात्मा व्याप्त है, दूसरा कोई नहीं। परमात्मा का नाम ध्यान करो और उच्चारण करो, यही नानक का मालिक की आज्ञा है। २

पउड़ी: जिसकी तू रक्षा करता है, उसे कौन मार सकता है? जिसकी तू रक्षा करता है, वह हमेशा जीतता है। जिसके साथ तू है, उसका मुख उज्ज्वल है। जिसके साथ तू है, वह पूर्णतया शुद्ध है। जिस पर तेरी नज़र है, उससे कोई हिसाब नहीं माँगा जाता। जिसे तू प्रसन्न होता है, वह नौ निधियों का भोग करता है। जिसकी तू ओर है, उसका कोई नुकसान नहीं कर सकता। जिस पर तेरी मेहर है, वही तेरी बंदगी करता है। ८
