Asa ( Jab Lag Tel Deeve Mukh Bati... )
So long there is oil in the lamp, and there is a wick on top of the lamp, the oil burns and there is light all around in the house, and one could see things around and recognize them. But when the oil is spent up, the wick stops burning and it is all darkness in the house. (Similarly, in the house of this human body, the breathing (life) is like the lamp, the soul is the wick, and the fortune is the oil, and as soon as the fire of the heart is extinguished, this body becomes dead and lifeless). (1)
O foolish Mind! You should remember the Lord and always meditate on his True Name as it is the end of this life; no one will be ready to keep your body for a moment even in the house. (Pause-1)
O fool! Whose father or brother is someone to be considered and whose wife is there? All these relatives are unreal and false relations. When the body loses life, like the broken picture, then after death no one is bothered about you and everyone is heard saying that we should get rid of this corpse quickly and take it to the cremation ground. (Everyone is keen to get rid of the dead body, as it has no use in the house). (2)
The mother is crying and wailing at the doorstep while the brothers have (taken) carried the dead body towards the cremation ground on a cot. The wife with her loose hair, is also wailing at her loss but the soul goes alone to the next world. (3)
O Kabir! The saints should listen to this fact that we should recite the Lord's True Name to cross this dreadful ocean of life successfully. O Lord! This man is being subjected to a lot of torture as the god of death (Yama) has got hold of the body in a tight noose and no one else can render any help now. (We should get rid of Yama's hold during life itself by meditating on True Name). (4-9)

आसा ॥ जब लग तेल दीवे मुख बाती तब सूझै सभ कोई ॥ तेल जले बाती ठहरानी सूंना मंदर होई ॥१॥ रे बउरे तुहि घरी न राखै कोई ॥ तूं राम नाम जप सोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ का की मात पिता कहु का को कवन पुरख की जोई ॥ घट फूटे कोऊ बात न पूछै काढहु काढहु होई ॥२॥ देहुरी बैठी माता रोवै खटीआ ले गए भाई ॥ लट छिटकाए तिरीआ रोवै हंस इकेला जाई ॥३॥ कहत कबीर सुनहु रे संतहु भै सागर कै ताई ॥ इस बंदे सिर जुलम होत है जम नही हटै गुसाई ॥४॥९॥
Hukamnama meaning in Hindi
जब तक अन्तरात्मा रूपी दीपक में प्राण रूपी तेल रहता है, इस दीपक के मुँह में सुरति रूपी बाती जलती रहती है, तब तक जीवात्मा को शरीर रूपी मंदिर में हर वस्तु की सूझ होती है। जब प्राण रूपी तेल जल जाता है अर्थात् शरीर में से प्राण निकल जाते हैं तो सुरति रूपी बाती बुझ जाती है। चारों ओर अंधेरा होने से शरीर रूपी मन्दिर सुनसान हो जाता है॥ १॥ हे बावरे मनुष्य ! तेरे प्राण पखेरू होने के उपरांत तुझे एक घड़ी भर के लिए भी कोई रखने को तैयार नहीं होता। इसलिए तू राम-नाम का भजन-सुमिरन कर ले॥ १॥ रहाउ ॥
बता ! कौन किसकी माता है और कौन किसका पिता है? कौन किसी पुरुष की पत्नी है? जब प्राणी रूपी घड़ा फूट जाता है अर्थात् देहांत होने पर कोई बात नहीं पूछता। हर कोई यही कहता है मृतक शरीर को घर से शीघ्र ही बाहर निकाल दो॥ २॥ देहुरी पर बैठी हुई माता रोती है और भाई अर्थी उठाकर श्मशानघाट ले जाते हैं। अपने बाल खिलार कर मृतक की पत्नी फूट-फूट कर रोती है और आत्मा अकेली ही चली जाती है।॥ ३॥ कबीर जी कहते हैं कि हे संतजनो ! इस भवसागर संबंधी सुन लो। हे गुसाई ! यह मनुष्य अपने कर्मों के कारण बहुत अत्याचार सहन करता है और यमदूत उसका पीछा नहीं छोड़ते ॥ ४॥ ६ ॥
Punjabi Translation
ਆਸਾ ॥ ਜਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਤੇਲ ਤੇ ਬੱਤੀ ਲੈਪਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁੱਛ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਦ ਤੇਲ ਬਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੱਤੀ ਬੁਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਸੁੰਨਮਸੁੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਕਮਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ ॥ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ॥ ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ॥
ਦਸ! ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਹਦਾ ਪਿਓ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਹੈ? ਜਦ ਘੜਾ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥ “ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੈ ਜਾਓ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੈ ਜਾਓ” ਸਾਰੇ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਸਰਦਲ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਾਂ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਾ ਚੁਕ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਲਿਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਕੱਲਮਕੱਲੀ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰੋ, ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਇਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪਰਮ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰੇਸ਼ਤਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
