Brother! Why dost thou strut about in pride?
Has forgotten the period when for ten months,
head downwards didst abide? (Pause)
Like the bee collecting the honey, has man hoarded wealth.
At the time of death, people cry: "Carry it away, Carry it away"
Why is this ghost kept lying? (2)
Till the doorstep has man's wedded wife accompanied his body;
Beyond friends and companions.
Till the cremation ground goes everyone and the family -
Beyond the self alone. (3)
Saith Kabir: Listen, the creature of God! Gripped by death into a well are you fallen;
By false lure of wealth have you got bound,
As the parrot in illusion in the trap. (4)

Explanation

When a man gives up his life, his body is burnt and burnt to ashes. If the dead body is buried, it is eaten by a group of insects. Just as the raw mud of the soil breaks down by pouring water, so is the glory of this soft body, as much as the importance of the gas.

The wife of that deceased person accompanies him to the threshold of the house and onwards all his gentlemen and relatives go. The whole family and all the people go to the crematorium and after that, the soul is left alone.॥3॥

Kabir Ji says O creature! Just listen carefully, Kaal (death) has made you a grave and you have fallen in a blind well. Just as a parrot is entrapped in illusion with a tube, similarly man has trapped himself in the bondage of false illusion.॥4॥2॥

Hukamnama meaning in Hindi

जब मनुष्य प्राण त्याग देता है तो उसका शरीर जला दिया जाता है ( Jab Jariyai Tab Hoye Bhasam Tan ) और जलकर राख हो जाता है। यदि मृत शरीर को दफना दिया जाए तो उसे कीड़ों का दल ही खा जाता है। जैसे मिट्टी की कच्ची गागर जल डालने से टूट जाती है, वैसे ही इस कोमल तन की बड़ाई है, जितना गागर का महत्व है।॥१॥

हे भाई ! तू क्यों घमण्ड में अकड़ा हुआ फिर रहा है ? वे दिन तुझे कैसे भूल गए हैं, जब तू दस महीने माता के गर्भ में उल्टे मुँह लटका हुआ था ? ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

जैसे मधुमक्खी शहद इकठ्ठा करती रहती है, वैसे ही मूर्ख मनुष्य जीवन भर धन-दौलत ही संचित करता रहता है। जब मनुष्य प्राण त्याग देता है तो सभी कहते हैं कि इस मृत शरीर को श्मशान ले जाओ, ले जाओ और इस भूत को क्यों यहाँ पर रखा हुआ है ?॥२॥

उस मृतक व्यक्ति की पत्नी घर की दहलीज तक उसके साथ जाती है और आगे उसके सभी सज्जन एवं संबंधी जाते हैं। सारा परिवार एवं सभी लोग शमशान जाते हैं और उसके उपरांत आत्मा अकेली ही रह जाती है।॥३॥

कबीर जी कहते हैं कि हे प्राणी ! जरा ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो तुझे काल (मृत्यु) ने ग्रास बनाया हुआ है और अन्धे कुएँ में गिरे हुए हो। जैसे तोता भ्रम में नलकी के संग फँसा रहता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य ने स्वयं को झूठी माया के बन्धन में फँसाया हुआ है।॥४॥२॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਗੱਲੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਫਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਮਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ) ਦਸ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਉਲਟਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੈਂ?।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਖੀ (ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰਸ ਜੋੜ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਸਰਫ਼ੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ (ਪਰ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਹ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ) । ਮੌਤ ਆਈ, ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਇਹੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ-ਲੈ ਚੱਲੋ, ਲੈ ਚੱਲੋ, ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਬੀਤ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤਾ ਚਿਰ ਘਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ।੨।

ਘਰ ਦੀ (ਬਾਹਰਲੀ) ਦਲੀਜ਼ ਤਕ ਵਹੁਟੀ (ਉਸ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਗਾਂਹ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਚੁੱਕ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਤਕ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਆਤਮਾ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸੁਣ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਘੇਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਅਵੱਸ਼ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ) । ਪਰ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਣਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੋਤਾ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਲਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਨੋਟ: ਨਲਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਨਾ ਤੋਤੇ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੪।੨।
