English Translation

Bilawal Mahala - 4 Astpadian Ghar - 11
Ik Onkar Satgur Prasad ( Aape Aap Khaye Hau Metai... )

"By the Grace of the (One) Lord-Supreme, attainable through the Guru's guidance."
O Brother! The person, who is imbued with the love of the Lord all the time (day and night), by ridding himself of his egoism and by singing the praises of the True Master, enjoys the bliss of life within himself by reciting True Name. Then such a person, with a golden (beautiful) body, remains immersed in True Name in the company of the Guru. He then becomes fearless (of death) and his soul mingles with the Prime-soul. (1)

O Brother! I have sought the support of the Lord's True Name as I cannot have peace or solace without (reciting) the True Name even for a moment. I have taken the lesson of (reciting) True Name by the Guru's guidance. This body is like a house with ten openings in the form of ten senses and is being plundered by the five thieves day and night, like sexual desires and anger. Then these thieves steal the man's four attainments of (dharma, artha, kama, and moksha) duty, wealth, pleasure, and salvation, whereas this ignorant faithless person does not realize this. (2)

This human body is like a priceless golden fort, filled with invaluable virtues and full of the jewels of good qualities. However, the persons, who are awakened with the support of (Lord's) knowledge, have imbibed the love of the True Master, who is an embodiment of virtues. The thieves like sexual desires, who had been hiding in the body to steal the four treasures like duty and wealth were caught in chains with the help of the Guru's Word (teachings), thus all the vicious thoughts and sinful actions were cast away (destroyed). (3)

The True Name of the Lord is the treasure of all joy and bliss and is the ship of safety for crossing this ocean of life successfully, whereas the Guru, as the ship's captain (oarsman), enables us to cross this ocean successfully. Then the Yama does not come anywhere near them to collect the fines, nor does any other thief (robber) with sexual desires approach them for committing theft. (4)

We sing the praises of such a Lord all day and night but I cannot evaluate His Greatness or find His limits by reciting His True Name. When the mind stabilizes with the Guru's guidance, the human being unites with the Lord by sounding the bugle of True Name. (5)

I have attained peace of mind and have been fully satiated by perceiving a glimpse of the Lord with my eyes and by listening to the Guru's Word with my ears. I am thrilled by listening to the Guru's Word (bani) and remain immersed in the Lord forever with love and devotion. (6)

O Brother! The whole world is engrossed in the love of the three-pronged (Maya) worldly falsehood whereas the Guru-minded persons have attained the fourth state of Equipoise and spiritual bliss and are enjoying unison with the Lord. They perceive the whole world with one eye (same perception) and see the same form of the Lord pervading equally everywhere. (7)

The Guru-minded persons have perceived the limitless Lord within themselves (their innerselves) and have seen the same light of the Lord's True Name reflected in all the beings. O Nanak! The True Master is pleased with the holy saints and blessed them with His benevolence, whereas they are always imbued with His love. (8-1-4)

ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਚੌਥੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨੂਰ ਨਿਡੱਰ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਨੂਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਸਰਵ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਅਤੇ ਛਿਨ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਧਰਮ-ਵਾਰਤਾ ਵਾਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ॥

ਦੇਹ-ਰੂਪ ਇਕ ਘਰ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਸ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਪੰਜ ਹੇਰੂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜ ਲਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਧਰਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਇਲਮ ਨਹੀਂ ॥

ਦੇਹ-ਰੂਪੀ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸੋਨੇ ਤੇ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਦ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਸਮਝ ਇਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਗ ਉਠਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਚੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਲੁੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਛੁਪੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਨਰੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹੈ ॥

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੇੜੀ ਤੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਲਾਹ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ, ਮਸੂਲੀਆ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੇ ਤਜ਼ਦੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਂ ਹੇਰੂ ਚੋਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥

ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਤਾਂ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਓੜਕ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤਦ ਇਹ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵੇਖ, ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਰੱਜ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਨਰਮ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥

ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ, ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਉੇਸੇ ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ ( Aape Aap Khaye Hau Metai... )

जो अपनी अहम्-भावना को दूर कर देता है, अपने अहंकार को मिटा देता है, वह रात-दिन हरि-नाम रस के गीत गाता रहता है।

जो जीव गुरुमुख बनकर प्रसन्न रहता है, उसकी काया कंचन जैसी शुद्ध हो जाती है, जिससे निडर होकर उसकी ज्योति परमज्योति में विलीन हो जाती है।१॥

परमात्मा का नाम ही मेरे जीवन का आधार है और नाम के बिना में पल भर भी नहीं रह सकता, गुरु ने अपने मुख से मुझे ‘हरि-स्मरण' का ही पाठ पढ़ाया है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

यह मानव शरीर एक घर है, जिसके दस द्वार हैं, काम, क्रोध, मोह, लोभ एवं अहंकार रूपी पाँच चोर सेंध लगा रहे हैं। वे इस घर में से धर्म एवं अर्थ रूपी सारा धन चोरी करके ले जाते हैं, किन्तु अन्धे मनमुखी जीव को इसकी खबर नहीं होती॥२॥

यह शरीर सोने का किला है, जो सत्य,संतोष, दया, धर्म रूपी अनेक रतनों से भरा हुआ है। इस किले के रक्षक ज्ञानेन्द्रियों परमतत्व में वृति लगाई रखती हैं। कामादिक तस्कर इस किले में छिपकर बैठे रहते हैं लेकिन ज्ञानेन्द्रिगों ने गुरु के शब्द द्वारा इन्हें पकड़कर बंदी बना लिया है॥ ३॥

हरि का नाम जहाज है तथा गुरु का शब्द भवसागर से पार करवाने वाला मल्लाह है । अब कर लेने वाला यमराज पास नहीं आता और न ही कामादिक तस्कर-चोर किले को सेंध लगा सकते हैं॥ ४ ॥

मेरा मन दिन-रात सदैव ही हरि के गुण गाता रहता है और मैं हरि-यश करके उसका अंत नहीं पा सका। गुरु के माध्यम से मेरा मन अपने आत्मस्वरूप में आ गया है और अब में अनहद शब्द रूपी ढोल बजाकर भगवान से मेिलूगा॥ ५ ॥

अपने नयनों से दर्शन करके मन तृप्त हो जाता है और कानों से गुरु की वाणी एवं गुरु-शब्द सुनता रहता हूँ। गुरु-शब्द सुन-सुनकर मेरी आत्मा हरि-रस में भीगी रहती है और राम को याद करती रहती है।६॥

रजोगुण, तमोगुण, सतोगुण इन त्रिगुणों में जीव माया में ही फंसा रहता है। लेकिन गुरुमुख ने तुरीयावरथा प्राप्त कर ली है। वह सब जीवों को एक दृष्टि से ही देखता-जानता है और उसे सब में ब्रह्म का प्रसार ही नजर आता है॥ ७ ॥

राम-नाम की ज्योति सब जीवों में प्रज्वलित हो रही है तथा अदृष्ट प्रभु स्वयं ही गुरुमुख को नजर आ जाता है। हे नानक ! परमात्मा मुझ दीन पर दयालु हो गया है और मैं भक्ति-भावना से हरि-नाम में विलीन हो गया हूँ॥ ८ ।१॥४ ॥
