Diwali / Bandi Chhor Divas
In 1619 when Guru Hargobind Ji was released from imprisonment at the Gwalior Fort, His return was celebrated with much fervor and aplomb. The Golden Temple i.e. Sri Harmandir Sahib was lit up with thousands of lights to welcome the Guru home. Since then, every year Sikhs continued to celebrate this day as Bandi Chhor Divas by illuminating their homes and gurdwaras with lamps and lights and distributing sweets. Bandi Chhor Divas coincide with the Hindu festival of Diwali and this has resulted in a similarity in celebrations between Sikhs and Hindus.
1619 ਵਿਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗਵਾਲੀਅਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ 'ਤੇ ਕੈਦ ਤੋਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ. ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਵੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਰਵਾਪਸੀ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਗਾਏ ਗਏ. ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਠਾਈਆਂ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਉਤਸਾਹ ਨਾਲ਼ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ.
