ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਡਿਠੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰਿ ॥ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਲਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥ ਜਿਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਨ ਉਪਕਰੇ ਅੰਤੀ ਵਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰ ॥੨॥ ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਵਰੋ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬੋਲੈ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਪੜਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਮਨ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਚਿੰਦ ਨਿਸਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ
1. English Translation
( Satgur No Sabh Ko Vekhda )
O, Nanak! All human beings perceive the True Guru (a glimpse of) but no·one could attain salvation just by having a glimpse unless someone deliberates on the Guru's Word. But no one could remove the filth of his mind just by seeing the Guru (physically), without developing the love of the Lord's True Name. But some (fortunate) persons are united with the Lord through His Grace by casting away (destroying) their vicious and sinful actions including their dual-mindedness. There are, however, some persons, who have united with the Lord, by inculcating the love of the Guru in their hearts and having a glimpse of the Guru, and leading a life of extreme humility just like the dead person. (1)
M - 3: The foolish and blind person, who has not served the True Guru, undergoes all sorts of tribulations due to his dual-mindedness and bums within (frets and fumes) in the fire of worldly desires, thus crying and wailing in pain. None of the near and dear ones or worldly possessions, for whose sake he had forsaken the Lord, come to his rescue in the end. O, Nanak! The Guru-minded persons, who have followed the Guru's guidance and teachings, have enjoyed the eternal bliss through the Grace and' benevolence of the Lord-benefactor. (2)
O, Lord! You are Yourself controlling everything there is no other second power except You. We could say something about the power (person) if there were another one except Yourself. In fact, the Lord is pervading all over the world including all the lands and oceans, and He alone is talking or making us talk (through His Grace). (The Lord's Will is at the back of all our actions), as He is the cause and effect of everything happening in the world.
We should seek the support of the Lord alone by taking refuge at His lotus-feet, as the Lord alone is the destroyer or arranges our emancipation (from worldly bondage). There is none else except the Lord Almighty, responsible for our destruction or bestowing this life on us, so we could relax without any worries by leaving everything to Him. O, Nanak! Let us recite the Lord's True Name all the time, whether in sitting, standing, or sleeping postures, being immersed in the True Name like the Guru-minded persons. (21-1-checked)

श्लोक महला ३ ॥ परमात्मा ने जितना भी जगत-संसार बनाया है, जगत के सारे प्राणी सतिगुरु के दर्शन करते हैं। परन्तु गुरु के दर्शनों से प्राणी को तब तक मोक्ष नहीं मिलता, जब तक वह शब्द पर विचार नहीं करता," (जब तक) उसकी अहंकार की मैल दूर नहीं होती और न ही भगवान के नाम से प्रेम होता है।
कुछ प्राणियों को तो भगवान क्षमा करके अपने साथ मिला लेता है, जो दुविधा एवं विकार त्याग देते हैं। हे नानक ! कुछ लोग स्नेह, प्यार के कारण सतिगुरु के दर्शन करके अपने आहत्व को मार कर सत्य से मिल जाते हैं।१ ।।
महला ३। मूर्ख, अन्धा एवं गंवार व्यक्ति सतगुरु की सेवा नहीं करता। द्वैतभाव के कारण वह बहुत दु:ख भोगता है और दु:ख में जलता हुआ बहुत चिल्लाता है। जिस दुनिया के मोह एवं पारिवारिक स्नेह के कारण वह गुरु को भुला देता है, वह भी अन्त में उस पर उपकार नहीं करते। हे नानक ! गुरु के उपदेश द्वारा ही सुख प्राप्त होता है और क्षमावान परमात्मा क्षमा कर देता है॥ २॥ पउड़ी।
हे ईश्वर ! तू स्वयं ही सबका रचयिता है, यदि कोई दूसरा होता तो ही मैं उसका जिक्र करता। परमात्मा स्वयं ही बोलता है, स्वयं ही हम से बुलवाता है और वह स्वयं ही समुद्र एवं धरती में मौजूद है। परमेश्वर स्वयं ही नाश करता है और स्वयं ही मुक्ति प्रदान करता है।
हे मन ! इसलिए परमेश्वर की शरण में पड़े रहना चाहिए। हे मेरे मन ! हमें तो परमेश्वर के सिवाय कोई मार अथवा जीवित नहीं कर सकता, इसलिए हमें निश्चिन्त एवं निडर होकर रहना चाहिए। उठते-बैठते एवं सोते वक्त सदा हरि-नाम का ध्यान करते रहना चाहिए। हे नानक ! गुरु के सान्निध्य में ही परमेश्वर मिलता है। ॥२१ ॥ १ ॥ शुद्ध।

ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਤਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਨਿਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਜਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (-ਰੂਪ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰਦੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ। ਅਰਥ: ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਛੱਡੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ) ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ।੧।
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾੜੇ ਘੱਤਦਾ ਹੈ; ਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਕਰਦੇ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਖੀਏ, ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਹੀ। ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਥਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਜਿਵਾਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਨਿਸਚਿੰਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੁ ਤੇ ਲੰਮੀਆਂ ਤਾਣ ਛੱਡ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਨਾ ਤੱਕ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ) । ।੨੧।੧। ਸੁਧੁ।
