2. English Translation
Bilaval Mahala 5 ॥
Maha Tapat Te Bhayi Saant, Parsat Paap Naathe
Andh Koop Meh Galat The, Kaadhe De Hathe ॥1॥
O, Brother! By perceiving a glimpse of the holy saints, we could extinguish the fire of viCious thoughts and worldly desires within us, and all our sins take to their wings by the touch of the lotus-feet of the holy saintS. We were rotting in the blind well of sinful actions when the holy saints have saved us by lending their helping hand. (1)
Oye Hamare Saajana, Ham Un Ki Ren
Jin Bhetat Hovat Sukhi, Jeea Daan Den ॥1॥ Rahao ॥
The holy saints are our real friends and comrades whereas we are like the dust of their lotus feet and we get the bliss of life by joining their company. (by meeting them). In fact, the saints have bestowed on us this boon of leading a true life (in their company). (Pause- 1)
Para Poorbala Leekhia, Milia Ab Aai
Basat Sang Har Saadh Kai, Pooran Aasai ॥2॥
We have been rather fortunate, being predestined by the Lord's Will to enjoy the company of such holy saints and we were enabled to fulfill all our cherished desires and hopes. (2)
Bhai Binse Tih Lok Ke, Paaye Sukh Thaan
Deya Kari Samrath Gur, Basia Man Naam ॥3॥
By joining the company of the holy saints (holy congregations) we have cast away the fear of the cycle of births and deaths for all the three ages (worlds), thus enjoying eternal bliss. O, Lord! The Guru has then blessed us with His grace so that we have been enabled to inculcate the love of the Lord's True Name in our hearts. (3)
Nanak Ki Tu Tek Prabh, Tera Aadhaar
Karan Kaaran Samrath Prabh, Har Agam Apaar ॥4॥19॥49॥
O, Nanak! We have the support of the True Master in our mind, who is the mainstay of this human body even. O, True Lord! You are the Lord-creator of .this universe, being all-powerful, though You are beyond our reach and comprehension. ( 4- 19 - 49)

( Maha Tapat Te Bhayi Saant ) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ (ਲੋਚਦਾ) ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ) ਪਰਸਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਗਲ-ਸੜ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ) ਬੜੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਉਘੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ-ਜਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਿਆਂ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਰੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ, ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਾ) ।੪।੧੯।੪੯।

संतों के चरण स्पर्श करने से सारे पाप भाग गए हैं और तृष्णा रूपी जलन से मन को शान्ति मिल गई है। हम जगत् रूपी अंधकूप में लीन थे किन्तु संतों ने हाथ देकर हमें निकाल लिया है॥ १॥
वही हमारे साजन हैं और हम उनकी चरण धूलि हैं। जिनको मिलने से मैं सुखी होता हूँ, उन्होंने मुझे जीवनदान दिया है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥
पूर्ण जन्म के कर्मों के कारण जो भाग्य में लिखा हुआ था, वह मुझे अब मिल गया है। संतों की संगति में रहने से मेरी कामनाएँ पूरी हो गई हैं। २॥
मेरे तीनों लोकों के भय नाश हो गए हैं और सुख का स्थान मिल गया है। समर्थ गुरु ने दया की है, जिससे मेरे मन में नाम स्थित हो गया है॥ ३॥
नानक कहते हैं कि हे प्रभु ! तू ही मेरी टेक है और मुझे तेरा ही सहारा है। अगम्य अपार प्रभु ही करने-करवाने में समर्थ है।४॥ १६ ॥ ४६ ॥
