ਸੁਣਿਅਹੁ ਕੰਤ ਮਹੇਲੀਹੋ

English Translation

Vadhans Mahala - 3 ( Sunioh Kant Maheliho Pir Sevioh )
O dear saints (spouses) of the Lord-Spouse! Listen to me. Let us serve the Lord-Spouse by deliberating on the Guru's Word. The self-willed persons, replete with vicious qualities (and sinful actions), have not realized the secrets of the) Lord. They have been robbed (of all virtues), having forgotten the Lord Spouse, and are devoid of all virtues or good qualities. They are crying and wailing at their separation from the Lord-Spouse, who is (above) free from the cycle of births and deaths and always misses His love, thus recounting His virtues, and feel the pain in detachment. However, the Guruminded persons, having followed the Guru's guidance, have realized the Lord-Spouse, the benefactor of salvation to mankind, and are always immersed in the love and devotion of the True Master. The person, who has not realized the value of the) Lord, who arranges for our separation (from Him) based on our actions in life) has been robbed and deceived as a result of his attachment to worldly falsehood. O friends, listen to me! There is only one mode or means of attaining the Lord i.e. by serving the Lord-Spouse through the Guru's guidance. (1)

This world, engrossed in the cycle of births and deaths, has been created by the Lord in which the self-willed (faithless) persons are made to (forget) forsake the Lord due to their love of (Maya) worldly falsehood, as such they are passed through the cycle of births and deaths. Thus due to repeated births and deaths, vicious and sinful actions are on the increase in the world, and the world being robbed due to the lack of knowledge or ignorance leads a fruitless life, as the Lord cannot be attained without proper knowledge and without the Guru's guidance. The True Master is ever-existent, being the Lord-benefactor, bestowing us with life, and He never dies. So why should we wail for Him except when we feel His absence, having forgotten the Lord's True Name? Then it would be worthwhile to grudge His loss. In fact, the Lord has created this Universe and with the help of this cycle of births and deaths, He manages to (run) continue the functions of this world. (2)

The Lord, is ever-existent, being True at all times, and never undergoes (the cycle of) births or deaths. The persons, engrossed in dual-mindedness, who have forsaken the Lord, are always separated from the Lord (like the widows having lost their spouses). Due to their love of worldly falsehood (Maya) because of their dual-mindedness, such persons always undergo suffering. Thus they go on spending this life (in vain) with the body losing its strength gradually as whosoever is born in the world finally has to face death. In fact, human beings undergo suffering due to their dual-mindedness and always get involved in worldly wrangles due to their greed and love of worldly possessions. They are never reminded about their death or the punishment they would face at the hands of Yama (god of death). But the True Master is ever-existent, being True at all times, without going through the cycle of births and deaths. (3)

The self-willed persons, like the blind and ignorant women, are crying in vain at the separation from the LordSpouse, not knowing that the Lord is ever-existent within their inner selves due to their ignorance and is ever close by. The Lord unites such persons with Himself, who recite True Name through the Guru's guidance, and the Guru-minded persons always take care to imbibe the love of the Lord-Spouse within their hearts, and consider the Lord present within their inner-selves and close by. The self-willed persons, however, consider the Lord as an alien entity and their bodies mingle with dust after death, as such they lead a wasteful life without serving any useful purpose. O Nanak! The persons, imbued with the love of the Lord-Spouse, get united with the Lord through the Guru's guidance, whereas the faithless persons moan their separation from the Lord as they are not aware of the fact that the Lord abides within themselves, in their hearts. (4-2)

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਓ! ( Sunioh Kant Maheliho Pir Sevioh ) ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈਣੀ (ਉਹ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੀ, ਉਹ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ) ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈਆਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।

ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਠੱਗੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਓ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈਣੀ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ।੧।

वडहंस महला ३ ॥ हे पति-परमेश्वर की स्त्रियो ! ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो, शब्द का विचार करके अपने प्रियतम प्रभु की सेवा करो। अवगुणों से भरी स्त्री अपने प्रियतम को नहीं जानती और वह मोह-माया में ठगी हुई अपने पति-प्रभु को विस्मृत करके रोती रहती है। जो जीव-स्त्री अपने प्रभु के गुणों को याद करके वैराग में अश्रु बहाती है, उसका स्वामी न मरता है और न ही कहीं जाता है। जिस जीव-स्त्री ने गुरु के माध्यम से प्रभु को जान लिया है एवं शब्द द्वारा पहचान कर ली है, वह सच्चे प्रभु के प्रेम में समाई रहती है। जिसने अपने प्रियतम कर्मविधाता को नहीं समझा, उस झूठी जीव-स्त्री को झूठ ने ठग लिया है। हे पति-परमेश्वर की स्त्रियो ! ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो, शब्द का विचार करके अपने प्रियतम प्रभु की सेवा करो ॥ १॥

सारे संसार की उत्पति परमेश्वर ने स्वयं ही की है और यह संसार आवागमन अर्थात् जन्म-मरण के चक्र में पड़ा है। माया के मोह ने जीव-स्त्री को नष्ट कर दिया है और वह बार-बार मरती एवं जन्म लेती है। वह बार-बार मरती एवं दुनिया में जन्म लेती है, उसके पाप-विकार बढ़ते जाते हैं एवं ज्ञान के बिना वह ठगी गई है। शब्द के बिना उसे प्रियतम प्राप्त नहीं होता और अपना अमूल्य जीवन व्यर्थ गंवा देती है। इस प्रकार गुणों से विहीन झूठी जीव-स्त्री विलाप करती है। प्रियतम-प्रभु तो जगत का जीवन है तो फिर किसके लिए विलाप करना। जीव-स्त्री अपने पति-प्रभु को विस्मृत करने पर ही रुदन करती है। सारा जगत परमात्मा ने स्वयं उत्पन्न किया है और यह संसार जन्मता-मरता रहता है॥ २॥

वह पति-प्रभु सदैव सत्य है। वह अनश्वर है अर्थात् न ही वह मरता है एवं न ही कहीं जाता है। भूली हुई जीव-स्त्री भटकती रहती है और द्वैतभाव द्वारा विधवा बनी बैठी है। द्वैतभाव द्वारा वह विधवा की भाँति बैठी हुई है; माया के मोह के कारण वह दुःख प्राप्त करती है, उसकी आयु कम होती जा रही है और शरीर भी नाश होता जा रहा है। जो कुछ भी उत्पन्न हुआ है, वह सबकुछ नाश हो जाएगा। सांसारिक आकर्षण के कारण मनुष्य दु:ख प्राप्त करता है। दुनिया माया की लालसा में हमेशा उलझती रहती है, उसे इसी लालसा में मृत्यु का भी ध्यान नहीं आता और अपने चित्त को लोभ एवं लालच में लगाती रहती है। वह पति-प्रभु सदैव सत्य है, वह अनश्वर है अर्थात् न ही वह मरता है और न ही कहीं जाता है॥ ३॥

अपने पति-परमेश्वर से बिछुड़ी हुई कई जीव-स्त्रियों रोती रहती हैं।अज्ञानता में अंधी हुई वे यह नहीं जानती कि उनका पति-परमेश्वर तो उनके साथ ही निवास करता है। गुरु की कृपा से सच्चा पति-परमेश्वर मिलता है और जीव-स्त्री अपने हृदय में सर्वदा उसे याद करती है। प्रियतम प्रभु को सर्वदा अपने साथ समझकर वह अपने हृदय में उसे स्मरण करती है। लेकिन मनमुख जीव-स्त्रियाँ उसे दूर ही समझती हैं। जिन्होंने परमेश्वर को अपने पास अनुभव नहीं किया, उनका यह शरीर मिट्टी में मिलकर खराब हो जाता है और किसी काम में नहीं आता। हे नानक ! जो जीव-स्त्री अपने अन्तर्मन में पति-परमेश्वर को सदा याद करती रहती है, वह गुरु द्वारा मिलाई हुई अपने पति-प्रभु से मिल जाती है। अपने पति-परमेश्वर से विछुड़ी हुई कई जीव-स्त्रियाँ रोती रहती है।लेकिन अज्ञानता में अन्धी हुई उन्हें यह नहीं पता कि उनका पति-परमेश्वर तो उनके साथ ही है।४ ॥ २ ॥
