Jo Tis Bhavai So Thia

Shabad “Jo Tis Bhavai So Thia” is composed by the 5th Guru Arjan Dev Ji in the soothing Raga Ramkali. The Shabad, recorded in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji on page 900, recites about the omnipotent power of the Lord and the firm faith of a soul in search of his protection.

English Translation

Ramkali Mahala 5th ( Jo Tis Bhavai So Thia... )

The Guru-minded persons, always remain in the refuge of the Lord all the time (with the support of) as there is no other second power (authority) apart from the Lord and whatever pleases the Lord, comes to pass. (Pause - 1)

All the worldly possessions like the son, wife, or wealth, which are seen here, do not accompany the man to the next world. In contrast, the faithless persons are engrossed in (Maya) worldly falsehood and leave this world discarding Maya (worldly falsehood) including wealth and possessions. (1)

Such a person has lived a fruitless life due to his vilification and suffered through the mother's womb in the cycle of Rebirth. The faithless persons have to suffer and bear the fruit (reward) of their past deeds and then are caught by the clutches of Yama in the end. (2)

Such a person tells lies, and functions with vicious thoughts, and his (thirst) fire for worldly possessions is not extinguished, and he faces death many a time (in the cycle of Rebirths) The faithless person, undergoes suffering with incurable disorders due to the ill-treatment of holy saints and his body gets destroyed in the next world even. (3)

The Lord, who had created this Universe and various beings, maintains and sustains them and bestows His saints with success and praiseworthiness everywhere. O Nanak! The Lord-benefactor has united his devotees (saints) with Himself (in His embrace) through His Grace. (4-44-55)

Hindi Translation

रामकली महला ५ ॥

जो ईश्वर को उपयुक्त लगा है, वही हुआ है।
सदैव भगवान की शरण ग्रहण करो, उसके अतिरिक्त अन्य कोई नहीं है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

पुत्र, स्त्री एवं लक्ष्मी जो कुछ नजर आता है, इन में से कुछ भी जीव अपने साथ नहीं लेकर गया।
माया रूपी ठग बूटी को खाकर जीव भूला हुआ है, लेकिन अन्त में माया एवं घर इत्यादि सबकुछ त्याग वह चला जाता है॥ १॥
दूसरों की निंदा कर करके जीव बहुत दुखी हुआ है एवं अपने कर्मों के अनुसार गर्भ योनियों में पड़ता रहा है।
पूर्व जन्म में किए कर्म जीव का साथ नहीं छोड़ते और भयानक यमदूत उसे अपना ग्रास बना लेते हैं।॥ २॥

मनुष्य झूठ बोलता है, वह बताता कुछ और है और करता कुछ अन्य है, यह बड़ी शर्म की बात है कि उसकी तृष्णा नहीं बुझती।
संतों पर झूठे दोष लगाने से उसके शरीर में असाध्य रोग पैदा हो जाता है, जिससे उसका शरीर नष्ट हो जाता है॥ ३ ॥

जिस परमात्मा ने संतों को यश प्रदान किया है, उसने ही उन्हें पैदा किया है और स्वयं ही संतों की जय-जयकार करवाई है।
हे नानक ! परब्रह्म ने अपनी कृपा करके संतों को गले से लगाकर रखा हुआ है॥ ४॥ ४४॥ ५५ ॥

Punjabi Translation

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥ ਠਹਿਰਾਓ ॥

ਪੁਤਰ, ਪਤਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ, ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀ ਠੱਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਮਾਲ-ਮੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਟੁਰ ਵੰਣਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਖਰਾ ਹੀ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੱਬ, ਤੂੰ ਪੇਟ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ ॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫਰੇਸ਼ਤਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਲਊਗਾ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਕੂੜ ਬਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਦਾ ਕੁਛ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਕੁਛ ਹੋਰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੜੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥
ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲਾ-ਇਲਾਜ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਮੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਉਤੇ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਤੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰ ॥
