ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੰਉ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ

1. English Translation

Slok Mahala - 3rd

( Bhagat Jana Kou Aap Tutha Mera Piara ....)

My beloved Lord is pleased with His saints and has immersed them (His slaves or devotees) in His worship and True Name. The Lord has bestowed the kingdom of heaven like a canopy over the heads of His saints.

The persons engaged in the service of the Guru always enjoy the bliss of life, having purified themselves, whereas the persons engrossed in wrangles (quarrels) or wars are not worthy of being called kings.

They are rather taken through the cycle of births and deaths. O Nanak! The persons, who are dishonored (with smitten noses) without the recitation of True Name, never get acclaimed here or hereafter. (1)

Mahala 3rd

So long as one is not able to teach the love of the Guru's Word in one's heart, it is no use getting involved in tall talk or listening to the teachings only.

Only through the service of the Guru can we inculcate the love of) the True Name in our hearts and cast away our doubts, fear, or dual-mindedness.

The best course is to get imbued with the love of the True Name of the Lord and then get immersed in meditation of the True Name, depending on how one (views) perceives the Guru outwardly. O Nanak! One gets honoured and acclaimed in the world by reciting True Name and the Lord's Presence. (2)

Pouri

The Guru's Sikhs always worship (serve) the Guru, as they have developed a love for the Lord in their hearts. Thus they gain the profit of the Lord's True Name by dealing in the trade (business) of the Lord's True Name with love and devotion.

Such Guru-minded persons proceed with flying colours to the Lord's court with pure hearts and find an honourable place in the Lord's presence, as they have won the pleasure of the Lord.

The Guru is the fountain-head of the wealth of the Lord's True Name and the fortunate Sikhs, predestined by the Lord's Will, share their virtues with others as well. I would offer myself as a sacrifice to those Guru's Sikhs, who recite the Lord's True Name all the time whether in sitting or standing postures. (11)

ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਝੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਰਾਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਜੋ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਭੀ ਨਕ-ਵੱਢੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ।੧।

ਜਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਤਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਿਰੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੇ) ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਊੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਏਥੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ; (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਬੋਹਲ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਆ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਿਆਲੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ, ਜੋ ਬਹਦਿਆਂ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧੧।

श्लोक महला ३

( Bhagat Jana Kou Aap Tutha Mera Piara ....) मेरा प्यारा परमेश्वर भक्तजनों पर स्वयं प्रसन्न हुआ है और अपने भक्तों को उसने स्वयं ही भक्ति में लगा लिया है। अपने भक्तजनों का उसने साम्राज्य प्रदान किया है और उनके सिर हेतु उसने सच्चा मुकुट बनाया है। वे सर्वदा सुखी एवं निर्मल हैं और सतिगुरु की सेवा करते हैं।

वे राजा नहीं कहे जा सकते, जो आपस में भिड़कर मर जाते हैं और तत्पश्चात् पुनः योनियों के चक्र में ही पड़े रहते हैं। हे नानक ! भगवान के नाम के बिना वे नकटा अर्थात् तिरस्कृत होकर घूमते रहते हैं तथा बिल्कुल ही शोभा प्राप्त नहीं करते॥ १॥

महला ३

(शब्द को) सुनने एवं निर्देश देने से मनुष्य को इसका स्वाद नहीं आता, जब तक वह गुरुमुख बनकर शब्द में मग्न नहीं होता। गुरु की सेवा करने से भगवान का नाम जीव के मन में निवास कर लेता है और भ्रम एवं खौफ उसके भीतर से भाग जाते हैं।

जीव जैसा गुरु को जानता है, वह भी वैसे ही हो जाता है और तब उसकी सुरति सत्य-नाम से लग जाती है। हे नानक ! नाम के फलस्वरूप ही जीव को कीर्ति प्राप्त होती है और आगे भगवान के दरबार में भी शोभायमान होता है ॥ २ ॥

पौड़ी

गुरु के शिष्यों के मन में भगवान की प्रीति है और वे आकर गुरु की पूजा करते हैं। वे हरि-नाम का बड़े प्रेम से व्यापार करते हैं और हरि-नाम का लाभ अर्जित करके चले जाते हैं। गुरु के शिष्यों के मुख हमेशा उज्ज्वल हैं और वे भगवान के दरबार में सत्कृत होते हैं।

गुरु-सतगुरु भगवान के नाम का अमूल्य भण्डार है और भाग्यशाली गुरु के शिष्य इस गुणों के भण्डार में उनके भागीदार बन जाते हैं। मैं गुरु के उन शिष्यों पर न्यौछावर हूँ, जो बैठते-उठते समय सदा हरि-नाम का ध्यान करते रहते हैं।॥ ११॥
