Vin Naave Verodh Sareer, Kyon Na Mile Kaate Man Peer; Originally Recited by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is documented in Sri Guru Granth Sahib JI at Ang 931 - 932 under Raga Ramkali, Dakhni Oankar Pauri 16 - 20.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਰੋਧੁ ਸਰੀਰ

English Translation

O, Brother! { Vin Naave Verodh Sareer } The body, without the support of True Name, is the painful enemy of Man. Why do you not unite with (meet) the Lord by casting off the suffering of the mind? This human being is like a traveler who is always going through the cycle of births and deaths. (who does not stay in the world permanently). What was brought by this man at his birth and what will he gain to his credit at the time of leaving (death)? (16)

In fact, without the support of True Name, there is a total loss at all places (we lose everything). We could gain something fruitful only when the Lord enables us to realize (the Lord's secrets). The virtuous person always looks after (maintains) the virtues within. O Nanak! We could unite with the Lord by following the Guru's teachings, O friend! (17)

The vices of sexual desires and anger affect adversely the state of the body (health) just as ( Suhaga ) melts the gold and purifies it; similarly, we should (purify) improve our intelligence, and make use of meditation or penance as the testing form. When the Sikh (devotee) is virtuous, the Guru bestows His Grace just as the jeweler evaluates and accepts the gold of full purity. The whole world behaves like an animal due to its egoism while the (god of) death destroys us like a butcher. (death takes its toll). The human being functions according to his pre-destined Lord who has created this world, alone knows the secrets of the world and makes it function accordingly. So what could we say as it is beyond our comprehension and not within our knowledge? (18)

We have partaken the nectar of True Name, having sought the support of the Lord, and having surrendered our mind to the Guru, we have caught hold of) practiced the quality of "Pardoning others." Though everyone calls himself pure and truthful, through the support of True Name alone, we have attained the jewel of Truth in all four ages. The human being, though leading a life (with eating and drinking only) enjoying worldly pleasures (of spiritual death) has not realized the value of leading the life of humility (like a dead person). The persons, who have realized the Lord by following the Guru's Word (Sabad), have practiced a life of humbleness (like a dead person). The persons, who have accepted the truth of death in their minds) have attained peace and tranquillity of mind. It is only through the Grace of the Guru that we could realize and attain the Lord's True Name. (19)

The devotee (Sikh), who has acquired peace and stability of mind, has finally been united with the Lord (just as the bird flying in the sky has its abode in the sky.) The person, who sings the praises of the Lord, enjoys the bliss of life in the state of equipoise. The ignorance once (gone) removed does not (pester) grasp the mind again and the knowledge once gained does not leave us. (disappear). Such persons remain immersed in the Lord's love through the Guru's Grace. The person, who is perfect and attains the height of the sky, is not controlled by another Master and is free from the cycle of births and deaths. In fact, he attains peace of mind and remains immersed in the Lord, and does not suffer through the cycle of rebirths by reciting his True Name. It is through the Guru's guidance alone that we could recite the True Name, as, without the support of the Lord's True Name, life is useless and fruitless. (20)

नाम के बिना जीना अपने शरीर से विरोध करने की तरह है { Vin Naave Verodh Sareer } । तू प्रभु से क्यों नहीं मिलता ? वह तेरे मन की पीड़ा को दूर कर देगा। जीव रूपी पथिक बार-बार जग रूपी पथ पर आता जाता रहता है। यह क्या लेकर जगत् में आया है और क्या लाभ प्राप्त करके जा रहा है। नाम के बिना हर स्थान में नुक्सान ही होता है। उसे नाम रूपी लाभ तभी हासिल होता है, जब परमात्मा उसे सूझ प्रदान करता है। सच्चा व्यापारी तो प्रभु-नाम का ही वाणिज्य एवं व्यापार करता है, फिर नाम के बिना जीव कैसे शोभा प्राप्त कर सकता है?॥ १६॥

वही सच्चा ज्ञानी है, जो परम-सत्य के गुणों का विचार करता है। गुणों में ही उसे ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है। संसार में कोई विरला मनुष्य ही है जो गुणों के दाता परमेश्वर का ध्यान करता है। गुरु के उपदेश द्वारा ही नाम-स्मरण की सच्ची करनी हो सकती है। अगम्य, मन-वाणी से परे परमेश्वर का सही मूल्य नहीं ऑका जा सकता। प्रभु से तभी मिलाप होता है, जब वह स्वयं जीव को विलीन कर लेता है। गुणवान जीव-स्त्री नित्य परमात्मा के गुणों का चिंतन करती है। हे नानक ! मित्र-प्रभु गुरु मतानुसार ही मिलता है॥ १७॥

काम-क्रोध शरीर को ऐसे गला देते हैं, जैसे सुहागा स्वर्ण को पिघला कर रख देता है। पहले स्वर्ण कसौटी की रगड़ सहता है और फिर वह अग्नि की ऑच सहन करता है। जब स्वर्ण सुन्दर बन जाता है तो वह सर्राफ की नजर में स्वीकार हो जाता है। यह जगत् पशु है और अभिमान रूपी काल कसाई है। परमात्मा ने जीवों को पैदा करके कर्मानुसार उनका भाग्य लिख दिया है अर्थात् जो जैसा करता है, वैसा ही फल प्राप्त करता है। जिसने जगत्-रचना की है, वही इसकी कीमत कर सकता है। अन्य क्या कहा जा सकता है, कुछ भी कहा नहीं जा सकता ॥ १८ ॥

जिसने खोज-खोज कर नामामृत का पान किया है, उसने क्षमा-भावना ग्रहण करके मन सतगुरु को अर्पण कर दिया है। अब हर कोई उसे श्रेष्ठ अथवा अच्छा कहता है, चारों युगों में वही शुद्ध रत्न होता है। जिन्होंने ईश्वर को नहीं समझा, वे खाते-पीते ही प्राण त्याग गए हैं। जिन्होंने शब्द के रहस्य को पहचान लिया है, वे पल में अहम् प्रति मर गए हैं। उनका चित स्थिर हो गया है, जिनका मन मृत्यु के लिए सहमत हो गया है। गुरु की कृपा से ही उन्हें नाम की पहचान हुई है॥ १६ ॥

गगन की तरह सर्वव्यापक गहनगंभीर परमात्मा का निवास गगन रूपी हृदय में है। जो उसका गुणगान करता है, वह सहज सुख भोगता रहता है। ऐसा जीव आवागमन से मुक्त हो जाता है। गुरु की कृपा से उसकी परमेश्वर में ही लगन लगी रहती है। सर्वव्यापक ईश्वर अगम्य है, वह जन्म-मरण के चक्र से परे है, सबका मालिक है। उसके ध्यान में समाधि लगाना उपयोगी है, जिससे मन स्थिर हो जाता है। हरि-नाम स्मरण करने से मनुष्य पुनः योनियों में नहीं पड़ता। गुरुमत ही सर्वोपरि है और अन्य सब कुछ नामविहीन है॥ २०॥
