There is but one God.
He is realised through the grace of the True Guru.
Guided by the Guru I looked around
And the gift of Lord's Name I found. (1)
With the divine peace my mind was sound.
The fire of thirst was extinguished in a moment, .
Meeting the Guru were my hungers drowned. Refrain
Mother mine! With the Lord's laudation my life is bound.
In His grace the True Guru does the Name propound. (2)
I have thereby my Beloved Lord found,
And enjoyed with the holy the Divine Sound. (3)
What was inscribed in my lot, it is that I found.
Brother! Union with the Lord is on Nanak's ground. (4) 1.5

O, Brother! I have attained self-realization (I have found the town of this human body with a lot of deliberations) through the Guru's guidance, which has resulted in the attainment of the invaluable nectar of the True Name of the Lord. (1)

O, my mind! By developing the love of the Lord, I have attained peace and tranquillity (of mind) through the bliss of True Name. By joining the company of the holy saints through the Guru's lift Grace, I have got rid of my worldly desires in a moment (The fire of worldly desires was extinguished in a moment). And my hunger for worldly possessions was cast away. (satiated) (Pause- 1)

O, my mother! O, my friend! I feel alive (my life is worthwhile) only by singing the praises of the Lord as the Guru has, through His Grace, taught the love of the Lord's True Name along with its benefits in my heart. (2)

I had been (searching) seeking the path of the Lord's attainment by developing the love of the beloved (True Master) for a long. Now, through the Guru's Grace, I am thrilled by enjoying the bliss of True Name in the company of the holy saints (congregations). (3).

O, Nanak! The fortunate persons, pre-destined by the Lord's Will, are enabled to attain the (love of the) Lord. The persons, blessed with the Guru's Grace, are bestowed with the unison of the True Lord, as the Guru has fulfilled the desires of such Guruminded persons through His pleasure. (4-1-5)

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਠੰਢ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਨਗਰ (Gurmat Nagri) ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ, (ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਹੁਣ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਪੱਕੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਭਾਲ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਉੱਘੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧।੫।

गुरु-उपदेश द्वारा मैंने अपनी शरीर रूपी नगरी (Gurmat Nagri) की भलीभांति खोज की है, जिसमें हरि नाम रूपी पदार्थ पा लिया है ॥ १॥

मेरे मन में हरि-नाम ने शांति बसा दी है। इससे क्षण में ही तृष्णा की अग्नि बुझ गई है और गुरु को मिलकर मेरी सारी भूख समाप्त हो गई है॥ १॥ रहाउ ॥

हे मेरी माई ! मैं हरि का गुणगान करके ही जी रहा हूँ। दयालु सतगुरु ने परमात्मा के गुण एवं उसका नाम मेरे मन में बसा दिया है। २॥

मैंने अपना प्यारा प्रभु ढूंढ लिया है और सत्संगति में मिलकर हरि-रस पा लिया है॥ ३॥ आरम्भ से मस्तक पर लिखे भाग्य के कारण ही मैंने हरि को पाया है।

हे भाई ! गुरु नानक ने प्रसन्न होकर मुझे हरि से मिला दिया है। ४॥ १॥ ५ ॥
