1. English Translation

Slok Mahala Teeja: ( Dhrig Eh Asa Duje Bhav Ki Jo Moh Maya Chit Laye)

Cursed be the hopes based on dual-mindedness, which lead one to develop the love of (Maya) the worldly falsehood! The persons, who have forsaken the Lord's True Name, considering it without any bliss, always suffer, being unaware of True Name. Thus the ignorant blind (fools) persons devoid of knowledge, are passed through the cycle of births and deaths facing rebirths time and again. Finally they leave the world in disgust and repentance, as they are not able to complete any job successfully. However the person, who is fortunate and pre-destined by the Lord's Will, gets the company of the Guru. O Nanak! I would offer myself as a sacrifice to the persons, who are imbued with the love of the Lord, and always enjoy the bliss of life. (1)

Mahala Teeja: This Maya (worldly falsehood) has enamoured the whole world, as this man gets attracted with the worldly hopes and desires. The whole world which we perceive, is under the control of Yama, the god of death. It is through the Lord's Will that one gets into the clutches of Yama but escapes this bondage if bestowed with the Lord's Grace. O Nanak! This mind, leaving the egoistic tendencies, could attain salvation through the Guru's Grace. Moreover, when this man casts away the hope of acquiring more worldly possessions through the Guru's Word, could attain salvation. (1)

Pouri: Wherever we abide in the world, we find the same True Master pervading there. Even in the next world, the same Lord is (pervading) present everywhere, who is the God (full) of justice. Thus the true saints get praised and acclaimed whereas the unreal, false persons are disgraced and rebuked by the Lord. The Lord dispenses true and correct justice, and the vilifiers are disgraced (with ash thrown in their head). O Nanak ! The Guru- minded persons have enjoyed the comforts and bliss of life by worshipping the True Lord (Truth) or reciting True Name. (5)

3. Hukamnama in Hindi

( सलोक मः ३ ॥ ध्रिग एह आसा दूजे भाव की जो मोहि माइआ चित लाए ॥ हरि सुख पल्हर तिआगिआ नाम विसार दुख पाए ॥ )

(तीसरे गुरु जी द्वारा रचित) धिक्कार है उस आशा पर, जो द्वैत-भावना से जुड़ी हो और जिसका चित्त माया के मोह में लगा हो। जो हरि के सुख को त्याग देता है और नाम को भूल जाता है, वह दुख पाता है। मूर्ख, अज्ञानी और अंधे मनमुख जन्म-मरण के चक्र में फंसे रहते हैं। उनके कार्य सफल नहीं होते और अंत में वे पछताते हैं। जिसके भाग्य में होता है, उसे सतगुरु मिलता है, और वह हरि-नाम का ध्यान करता है। जो जन नाम में लीन रहते हैं, वे सदा सुख पाते हैं; जन नानक ऐसे भक्तों पर बलिहार जाता है। ॥1॥

म. ੩ यह आशा और इच्छा संसार को मोह में डालने वाली है, जिसने समस्त संसार को मोहित कर रखा है। सभी प्राणी यमराज के अधिकार क्षेत्र में हैं, जितनी भी सृष्टि दिखाई देती है। यमराज उसी को पकड़ता है, जिसे परमात्मा के आदेश से ऐसा दंड मिलता है, लेकिन जिसे करतार (ईश्वर) क्षमा करता है, वह बच जाता है। नानक कहते हैं, गुरु की कृपा से यह मन तभी पार होता है, जब यह अहंकार को त्याग देता है। आशा और मनोकामनाओं को मिटाकर, गुरु के शब्द का चिंतन करने से व्यक्ति निःस्वार्थ और शांत हो जाता है। ॥2॥

पौड़ी: जहां भी इस संसार में जाओ, वहीं हरि विद्यमान है। आगे भी वही सर्वत्र व्यापक है, वही सच्चा न्याय करने वाला है। झूठे लोगों के मुख काले किए जाते हैं, लेकिन सच्ची भक्ति ही महानता प्रदान करती है। सच्चा स्वामी न्यायी है और निंदकों के सिर पर अपयश छा जाता है। जन नानक कहते हैं, जो गुरु की शरण में आकर सत्य नाम का स्मरण करता है, वही सुख प्राप्त करता है। ॥5॥

ਸਲੋਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਲੱਖਲਾਨ੍ਹਤ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੀ ਚਾਹਨਾ ਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਜੋ ਜਗ ਦੇ ਕੱਖ-ਤੀਲੇ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕੂਲ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਉਹ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੌਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਉਮੀਦ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਫਰੇਫਤਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹੀ ਜੋ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਲਪੇਟ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੌਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ, ਇਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਵੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਰ ॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਆਇਕਾਰੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਝੂਠਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ ॥ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਫਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥
