3. English Translation

Ik Onkar Satgur Prasad Asa Mahala - Pehla Chhant Ghar - 2 ( Tu Sunn Harna Kalia Ki Va'riai Ra'ata Ram.... )

"By the Grace of the One Supreme Lord, Truth personified attainable through the Guru's guidance."

O my mind! wandering like the black deer! Why are you so much pleased with your involvement in worldly vices as this world is transient and does not last long and You will end up in great suffering? This life without True Name, is going to be full of afflictions, so why are you so much amused with its enjoyment?
This world rises and falls like the waves of an ocean and flashes like the lightning are noticed.

O Man! You have totally forgotten the Lord who is your only protector and Saviour, and none else could save you. O Nanak! Let us meditate on True Name. O my mind! The truth is that without the help of True Name, You will suffer like the deer, being caught up by the god of death in great distress. (1)

O Man! You are enjoying in vices like the black wasp, seeking the fragrance of flowers, and finally you are liable to suffer heavily, being engrossed in the worldly pleasures. Having taken the guidance of the Guru, who through full consideration, has explained thus.

O Brother! Look at the fate of the wasp enjoying the fragrance of flowers, how would you face similar fate by enjoying in worldly pleasures and sinful actions, (like involving yourself with another's wife) The Guru has further clarified that your body will perish as soon as the sun of the god of death rises, and the Yama wil throw you in the fire of hell. You will thus suffer all the punishments at the hands of Yama (god of death) having forgotten the Guru's teachings and behaving like a Satan engrossed in worldly falsehood, and verily you will be thrown in hell to suffer all the consequences of your actions. O Nanak! Why do you not remember the Lord and recite His True Name? O my mind! You would definitely die suffering like the black wasp for your ugly actions; and I tell you this Truth, that without True Name, this will be your fate.(2)

O my mind, (Stranger to this body)! Why are you engulfed in worldly falsehood, as your real abode was within Yourself, and not the worldly pleasures? If you had cared to inculcate the True Lord in your heart, you would not have to face the Yama (god of death) in such distress, so try to remember the Lord. O Man! You have been caught, like the fish in the net of the Shikari, by the god of death and on separation from your true friend, the soul within, you wail and cry like the fish. The truth will unravel unto you at the time of death alone, after wasting this life in worldly pleasures in which man feels, elated and the false notions will disappear.

O Brother! Try to inculcate love of the Lord in your heart, leaving all other whims and misgivings. O Nanak! I have only realised one Truth that we should remember the Lord and meditate on Lord's True Name. (3)

O Man! This soul is separated from the prime-soul since ages, just as someone is carried away in a stream and gets drowned separated from its origin; but this unity with the Lord in attained only by few fortunate persons, who are pre-destined by Lord's Will.

It is only some Guru-minded persons who realise that man has to pay for his sins and (poisonous) vicious thoughts, which he indulged in considering them sweet. But such Guru- minded persons are few who have inculcated Lord's True Name in their hearts and meditated on it, in the company of holy saints through the Guru's guidance. O foolish Mind! Man suffers and finally faces death by forgetting Lord, engrossed in worldly pleasures and dual-mindedness.

O Nanak! Let us take it for granted that this man, separated from the Lord-Spouse since ages, could unite with the Lord through the Guru's guidance. However the persons, who do not inculcate or recite Lord's True Name, finally cry and wail in the end having wasted this life, so we should meditate on True Name to unite with the Lord. (4-1-5)

तू सुणि हरणा कालिया की वाड़ीऐ राता राम ॥
बिखु फलु मीठा चारि दिन फिरि होवै ताता राम ॥
फिरि होइ ताता खरा माता नाम बिनु परतापए ॥
ओहु जेव साइर देइ लहरी बिजुल जिवै चमकए ॥
हरि बाझु राखा कोइ नाही सोइ तुझहि बिसारिया ॥
सचु कहै नानकु चेति रे मन मरहि हरणा कालिया ॥१॥
भवरा फूलि भवंतिआ दुखु अति भारी राम ॥
मै गुरु पूछिआ आपणा साचा बीचारी राम ॥
बीचारि सतिगुरु मुझै पूछिआ भवरु बेली रातओ ॥

6. हिंदी अर्थ (सरल अनुवाद)

ੴ सतिगुरु प्रसादि ॥
आसा महला १ छंद घरु ३ ॥
हे काले हिरण! तू सुन, तू किस बाग में मग्न है?
चार दिन तक जहर का फल मीठा लगता है, फिर वह गर्म (तड़पाने वाला) हो जाता है।
फिर वह खूब तड़पाने वाला और मदहोश कर देने वाला हो जाता है। नाम के बिना इंसान तड़पता है।
जैसे सागर लहरें देता है और बिजली चमकती है (वैसे ही वह तड़पाता है)।
परमात्मा के बिना कोई रक्षक नहीं है, तूने उसी को भुला दिया है।
नानक सच कहता है, हे मेरे मन! याद कर, हे काले हिरण! तू मर जाएगा॥१॥
हे भौंरे! फूलों पर घूमते हुए तुझे बहुत भारी दुख मिलता है।
मैंने अपने सच्चे गुरु से पूछा और विचार किया।
गुरु ने विचार करके मुझसे पूछा, 'हे भौंरे! तू बेलों से चिपका हुआ है।'
जब सूरज चढ़ता है, तो शरीर नष्ट हो जाता है और तेल उबलते हुए जल जाता है।
नाम के बिना बेतालियों (पागल) की तरह तू यम के मार्ग में बंधकर चोटें खाएगा।
नानक सच कहता है, हे मेरे मन! याद कर, हे काले भौंरे! तू मर जाएगा॥२॥
हे मेरे परदेसी मन! तू किस जंजाल में पड़ रहा है?
सच्चा मालिक तेरे मन में बसता है, फिर तू यम के जाल में क्यों फँसेगा?
मछली बिछड़कर रोती है, क्योंकि मछुआरे ने जाल बिछा दिया है।
संसार और माया का मोह मीठा लगता है, पर अंत में यह भ्रम दूर हो जाता है।
भक्ति कर, अपना चित्त हरि से लगा और मन से चिंताएँ छोड़ दे।
नानक सच कहता है, हे मेरे परदेसी मन! तू याद कर॥३॥
नदियों के प्रवाह बिछड़ जाते हैं, पर संयोग से फिर मिलते हैं।
युग-युग तक जहर मीठा लगता है, पर कोई विरला जोगी ही यह जानता है।
कोई सहज भाव से ही उसे जानता है और हरि को पहचानता है, जिसने सतगुरु को याद किया है।
हरि नाम के बिना लोग भ्रम में भूलकर नष्ट हो जाते हैं। वे मूर्ख और अचेत हैं।
जिनके हृदय में हरि नाम और सच्ची भक्ति नहीं है, वे अंत में रोते और पुकारते हैं।
नानक सच कहते हैं कि सच्चे शब्द से चिरकाल से बिछड़े हुए लोग भी मिल जाते हैं॥४॥१॥५॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਛੰਦ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਿਰਗ (ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਬਗੀਚੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ਪਾਪ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਚਹੁੰ ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁੜ ਇਹ (ਕੌੜਾ) ਜਾਂ (ਤੱਤਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਮੁੜ ਉਹ ਮੇਵਾ, ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਤੂੰ ਘਣੇਰਾ ਤਰਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕੌੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕੌੜਾ ਥੀਂ ਵੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਹ ਮੇਵਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਦੇ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਆਰਜੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਮਰ ਵੰਞੇਗਾ ਹੇ ਕਾਲਿਆ ਮਿਰਗਾ!

ਹੇ ਭਉਰੇ! ਤੂੰ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਕਰ ਕੱਟਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਖਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਬਣੇਗੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ॥ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸੱਚੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਵੇਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਭਉਰੇ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਉਦੈ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੇਹਿ ਡਿਗ ਪੈਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਤੱਤੇ ਤੇਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਬਾਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਹੇ ਭੂਤਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਨਰੜਿਆਂ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਸਹਾਰੇਗਾਂ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਮਰ ਵੰਞੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਭਊਰਿਆ!

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਿਦੇਸਣ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦੀ ਹੈਂ? ਜਦ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸੇਗੀਂ? ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਫੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਫੰਧਾ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਝੂ ਭਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵਹਿਮ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਫਿਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਿਦੇਸਣ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ!

ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਹਿਣ, ਜੋ ਨਿੱਖੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰੱਬ ਸਬੱਬੀ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਹਰ ਯੁੱਗ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵਿਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਬੇਖਬਰ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਵਹਿਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਅਖੀਰ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੁੱਬਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਦਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਰੂਹਾਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥
