Valmiki Jayanti
Valmiki Jayanti falls on a day that marks the birthday of an ancient Indian poet, a wise man named Maharishi Valmiki. The festival is generally observed on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashwin which generally occurs in October following the Indian Lunar calendar. It should be noted that Valmiki is famous for having written one of the oldest Indian poetry in Sanskit-the epic ” Ramayana.”
“Ramayana” is among the main and sacred books in Hindu mythology and literature. This tells us about life experiences as well as exploits of Lord Rama who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and provides ethical and moral teachings. Maharishi Valmiki’s work is an invaluable cultural asset for India providing insight into its philosophy and spirituality. Valmiki Ji has been mentioned 4 times in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, so we have rendered this Valmiki Jayanti Wish with a Gurbani Quote written over it.

Birth and Early Life:
It is assumed that Valmiki was present and living during the Treta Yuga, which is the second age of Hindu cosmology. People identify his birthplace with the current state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Ratnakara’s birth name was Ratnakara and he belonged to a clan of hunters. In his youth, Ratnakara used to steal and rob people traveling across the forests where he dwelt to make a living.
Transformation into a Sage:
It happened that once, Ratnakara intended to steal the Great sage Narada Muni, only to see him with his unsurpassed wisdom. Narada Muni questioned him whether it was fair that his family would share the consequences of his sin. Ratnakara was overcome by remorse for his misdeeds and chose to renounce his life of sins to change his life.
He embarked on a journey of penance and meditation to obtain divine knowledge and enlightenment. His great zeal and asceticism procured for him the grace of Lord Brahma, who conferred upon him another name Valmiki, denoting in the Sanskrit language “he who came out from an ant heap”. People think that the change in Valmiki was so strong that he became a sage and a famous poet.
Authorship of the Ramayana:
The “Ramayana” is probably Maharishi Valmiki’s most notable piece of writing. It is part of the oldest literary canon in Hinduism and tells the story of Lord Rama—an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The “Ramayana” by Valmiki has been regarded both as a literature classic and a spiritual and ethical teacher. Dharma (righteous duty), devotion, and the eternal conflict of good and evil are among the topics explored in this text.
Legacy and Influence:
The life and teachings of the sage Valmiki have made a deep impression on the Indian tradition. He is revered as ‘Adi Kavi’, meaning the first poet, as a symbol of redemption and change. His writings have influenced so many generations and remain relevant to the modern Hindus’ philosophical and narration aspects.
Death:
They claim that Maharishi Valmiki achieved samadhi, a high state of meditation beyond his body. His legacy remains as he authored and “Ramayana” has a lot of morals. The story of Sage Valmiki reminds us that a person who underwent many sins can still become a great sage.
