Max Arthur Macauliffe
Max Arthur MacAuliffe aka Michael McAuliffe was an Indian Civil servant under British Government. He was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Punjab in 1882 and 2 years later a divisional Judge. Being a prolific scholar and author, he felt the magical influence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib's words.
Macauliffe did detailed research on the Sikh Religion, Its history, and the Scriptures. As he had extensive access to the old manuscripts, He started writing English translations of the Sikh Scriptures. In fact, he was the first person ever who partially translated Baani of Guru Granth Sahib into the English language. To accomplish such a great job, he resigned from Civil Services in 1893.
