Beej Mantar Har Kirtan Gao

1. English Translation

Ramkali Mahala 5th
Beej mantar Har keertan gāo
Āgai milī nithāve thāo
Gur pūre kī charanī lāg
Janam janam kā soiyā jāg ॥1॥

(O Brother !) Let us sing the praises of the Lord through the Guru's Word (with Kirtan), which is the (fountain-head) source of all bliss. O helpless person, lacking any abode! You will get a proper abode (reception) in the next world, provided you take refuge at the lotus-feet of the perfect Guru, so that you may get awakened from the slumber of ignorance since ages. (1)

Har Har jāp japlā
Gur kirpā te hirdai vāsai bha-ojal pār parlā ॥1॥ rahāu ॥

Oh, my mind! Try to meditate and recite the Lord's True Name. You could cross this ocean of life successfully provided you imbibe the love of the True Name in your heart through the Guru's guidance. (Pause - 1)

Naam nidhān dhiāe man atal
Tā chhooteh māiā ke patal
Gur kā shabad amrit ras pīu
Tā terā hoe nirmal jīu ॥2॥

Oh, my mind! You will find an immortal position by reciting the wealth of True Name, thus you will be able to cast away the bondage of worldly falsehood. By partaking in the nectar of the Guru's Word by reciting True Name you may purify yourself with a pure soul. (2)

Sodhat sodhat sodh bīchārā
Bin Har bhagat nahī chhutkārā
So Har bhajan sādh kai sang
Man tan rāpai Har kai rang ॥3॥

We have come to the conclusion after great deliberations (by studying Vedas etc.) that without the Lord's worship there is no other alternative (to get free from worldly bondage). So let us recite True Name in the company of the holy saints, as the body and mind are imbued with the Lord's love through the holy saints only. (3)

Chhod siānap bahu chaturāī
Man bin Har nāvai jāe na kāī
Daia dhārī Govind Gosāī
Har Har Nānak tek tikāī ॥4॥16॥27॥

O, Brother! Let us get rid of our cleverness or intelligent moves. Oh, my mind! There is no other solace except through the support of True Name. O Nanak! The person, who is bestowed with the Grace of the Lord-benefactor, has sought the support of the Lord's True Name. (4 - 16 - 27)

2. Hindi Translation

रामकली महला ५ ॥ बीज मंत्र हर कीरतन गाओ ॥ आगै मिली निथावे थाओ ॥ गुर पूरे की चरणी लाग ॥ जनम जनम का सोया जाग ॥१॥ हर हर जाप जपला ॥ गुर किरपा ते हिरदै वासै भ्औजल पार परला ॥१॥ रहाओ॥ नाम निधान धयाए मन अटल ॥ ता छूटहि माया के पटल ॥ गुर का सबद अमृत रस पीओ ॥ ता तेरा होए निरमल जीओ ॥२॥ सोधत सोधत सोध बीचारा ॥ बिन हरि भगत नही छुटकारा ॥ सो हर भजन साध कै संग ॥ मन तन रापै हर कै रंग ॥३॥ छोड सियाणप बहु चतुराई ॥ मन बिन हर नावै जाए न काई ॥ दया धारी गोविंद गुोसाई ॥ हर हर नानक टेक टिकाई ॥४॥१६॥२७॥

रामकली महला ५ ॥ ( Beej Mantar Har Kirtan Gao ) मूलमंत्र हरि का कीर्तन गान करो, इससे बेसहारा को भी परलोक में सहारा मिल जाता है। पूर्ण गुरु के चरणों में लगने से जन्म-जन्मांतर का सोया हुआ मन जाग जाता है॥ ।१।

जिसने हरि-नाम का जाप किया है, गुरु कृपा से वह उसके हृदय में बस गया है और वह भवसागर से पार हो गया है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

हे मन! नाम-भण्डार अटल है, उसका ध्यान करने से माया के बंधन छूट जाते हैं। गुरु का शब्द अमृतमय रस है, इसका पान करने से तेरा हृदय निर्मल हो जाएगा ॥ २॥

खोज-खोजकर सोच-समझकर मैंने यही विचार किया है केि हरि की भक्ति के बिना किसी का छुटकारा नहीं होता। इसलिए साधुओं की संगति में हरि का भजन करना चाहिए, इस प्रकार मन-तन हरि के रंग में लीन हो जाता है॥ ३॥

अपनी अक्लमंदी एवं चतुराई को छोड़ दो। हे मन ! हरि के नाम बिना पापों की मैल दूर नहीं होती। हे नानक ! ईश्वर ने मुझ पर दया की है, इसलिए हरि-नाम का ही सहारा लिया है॥ ४॥ १६॥ २७ ॥

3. Punjabi Translation

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ( Beej Mantar Har Kirtan Gao ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਿਆ, (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ (ਦਾ ਗੀਤ) ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ। (ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਗ ਪਏਂਗਾ।੧।

ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੇ ਪੜਦੇ ਪਾਟਣਗੇ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।੨।

ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਸਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੀ) ਸਿਆਣਪ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ। (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਭੁਇਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਜੀਊਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ) , ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਜਾਲਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧੬।੧੭।
