ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
ਗਾਵਤੇ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਸੁਣਤੇ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੇ ਪਾਹਨ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੈ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥

Translation in Punjabi

ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ, ਅਪਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ)। ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਪਸ਼ੂ-ਬਿਰਤੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ, ਪ੍ਰੇਤਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲ ਇਨਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ-ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Translation in English (Poetic)

Lofty, Wondrous, Limitless Lord, who can recount Your merit?
Those who chant Your praises are saved,
Saved are also those who listen and are free from sins to their credit.
You ferry across beasts and goblins and the thoughtless
Also the stones You carry to the other shore.
Nanak, the slave, has sought Your shelter
He is sacrifice unto You and more. (4) 1.4

Meaning of Shabad in Simple English

O Lord ! You are too Great and limitless. Who could recite Your Greatness or praises (virtues) ? The persons, who listen to, or sing Your praises always cross this ocean of life successfully and the sinners also get rid of their various sins. O Nanak ! It is only through the Lord's Grace that all the animals, demons, fools and stone-hearted persons attain salvation and cross this ocean successfully. O Lord ! I have sought Your support only as Your devotee (slave) and would always offer myself as a sacrifice to You. (4-1-4)

ऊच अपार बेअंत सुआमी कौण जाणै गुण तेरे ॥
गावते उधरहि सुणते उधरहि बिनसहि पाप घनेरे ॥
पसू परेत मुगध कौ तारे पाहन पार उतारै ॥
नानक दास तेरी सरणाई सदा सदा बलिहारै ॥

Translation in Hindi (Devnagari)

हे सबसे ऊँचे, अपार और अनंत स्वामी! आपके गुणों को कौन जान सकता है? आपका यश गाने वाले और सुनने वाले, दोनों ही मुक्त हो जाते हैं और उनके अनगिनत पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। आप पशु-वृत्ति वालों, प्रेतों और मूर्खों को भी तार देते हैं; आप पत्थर (कठोर हृदय) को भी पार उतार देते हैं। दास नानक आपकी शरण में आया है और आप पर सदा-सदा बलिहार जाता है।
