English Translation

Vadahans Mahala Pehla ( Jin Jag Siraj Samaya So Sahib...)

O Brother! The Lord, who has created this Universe, and is abiding within this world, being a part of all the beings within, is the spouse (Master) of the Maya (worldly falsehood), and is controlling the functioning of this Universe with the help of Nature. Let us realise the True Master within all the beings, instead of seeking Him outside in distant places, and not consider Him a distant entity who has created this world. Infact, we should realise the Lord, abiding in prefection within our innerselves (hearts). By reciting the True Name of the Lord, man could enjoy the eternal bliss otherwise this man, without the support of True Name, loses this battle of life and wastes this human life. The Lord alone, who has created this Earth (world), knows all the secrets or the functioning of this world. How could anyone else explain or discuss the secrets of the Lord or its functioning (of Nature) ? (None could explain His secrets) The Lord, who has spread the snare of worldly love all over after creating this world, is the Master pervading everywhere and all beings. (1)

O Brother! The person, who is born in the world, has to face death also one day. (has to die) This world is only half way through this passage of man's life. Each person, based on his earlier actions, has been pre-destined by the Lord to undergo certain (joy) comforts and sufferings (sorrow) as per His Will, so each individual has to face in life certain joys and sorrows as ordained by the Lord,, based on one's own actions. Man follows in life the dictates of the Lord as per His Will, and man functions as ordained by the Lord, undertaking such (functions) actions only. It behoves man to follow the Lord's Will only, instead of seeking some other alternative jobs or functions, as the Lord Himself has arranged to engage the whole world in certain chores (functions), though He Himself remains aloof and detached from all the worldly bondage. Then the Lord, through His Will alone, could enable this human being to get rid (get free from) of this bondage. This man does not perform any good deeds, being engrossed in vicious thoughts or sinful actions, and thus wastes his whole life in postponing things (of reciting True Name). Finally he is caught by the god of death, engaged in dual-mindedness and having spent his whole life engrossed in vices and sins. (2)

Now this man does not realise the truth and how to tread the path of the Yama (the god of death) as this path is covered with pitch darkness and one cannot even see the route clearly. On this route neither water nor food is available to the individual, moreover no other comforts like the provision of quilts and mattresses is available to the individual. Neither the individual gets the benefit of cold drinking water or food through love nor any clothes or beauty aids for the body. He is bound in the chains of Yama and gets punished by him, who is scorting the man. There is no place of safety or place of support and the man undergoes sufferings, and excalims, that he would not repeat such sinful actions. But the Yama does not spare him saying that it was too late for him now to make amends for his past actions. (Whatever is done now, cannot bear fruit) and nothing could be done while covering the path of the Yama. The individual then commits more mistakes, thus adding to his load of miseries, and repents further. The main deliberation is that apart from the True Lord there is no other support or protection. (3)

O Brother! The true mourners are those persons, who join the company of holy saints and sing the praises of the Lord with sweet language thus getting detached from the worldly pleasures. The persons whose intelligence (wisdom) gets blurred due to the falsehood, (Maya) mourn at the loss of the worldly possessions which are considered permanent and real by them. They are engrossed in the world, which is like a dream and temporary and cry (at the loss) for worldly chores. Their hearts are not purified. Just as we forget the True Lord, while watching the worldly drama of the Lord, being engrossed in egoism and undergo sufferings, being caught by the worldly bondage, thus getting robbed by it. The Lord Himself is empowered to lead us onto the right path, by engaging us in the virtuous deeds as He is the cause and effect of everything. O Nanak! The persons, who are imbued with the love of the Lord, have been saved by the perfect Guru, bestowing them with a peaceful nature, and the Guru has saved them in the (fourth) state of equipoise (4-4)

Hukamnama meaning in Hindi

वडहंस, पहला महला: जिसने संसार की रचना की और इसे अपने भीतर समाहित किया, वही सच्चा मालिक है, जिसे उसकी कुदरत से जाना जा सकता है। सच्चे को दूर मत खोजो; हर दिल में बसे शब्द के माध्यम से उसे पहचानों। सच्चे शब्द को पहचानो और उसे दूर न मानो, क्योंकि उसी ने इस सृष्टि को रचा है। नाम का ध्यान करने से सुख प्राप्त होता है, और नाम के बिना आत्मा कमजोर रहती है। जिसने इस सृष्टि को स्थापित किया और उसकी विधि को जाना, उसके बारे में कोई क्या कह या बयान कर सकता है? जिसने संसार को रचकर प्रकट किया, वही सच्चा मालिक है। ||1||

हे बाबा, यह संसार अस्थायी है; हमें उठकर आगे बढ़ना है। यह दुनिया एक अस्थायी यात्रा का मार्ग है। हर सिर पर पूर्व कर्मों के अनुसार दुख और सुख की सच्चाई लिखी हुई है। जो भी कर्म किए हैं, उनके अनुसार ही दुख और सुख प्राप्त होते हैं और ये आत्मा के साथ बने रहते हैं। जैसा सृष्टिकर्ता कराता है, वैसा ही कर्म होता है, और दूसरी कोई क्रिया काम नहीं आती। मालिक स्वयं संसार से परे और अलग है, लेकिन अपने हुक्म से मुक्ति देने वाला भी वही है। द्वैत और बुराई में फंसने से आज और कल दोनों में मृत्यु होती है। ||2||

मृत्यु के मार्ग पर कोई रास्ता दिखाई नहीं देता; यह एक अंधकार और उलझन भरा मार्ग है। वहां न तो प्यास बुझाने का पानी है, न खाने के लिए भोजन, और न ही कोई आरामदायक वस्त्र। न प्रेम का पोषण है, न ठंडक देने वाला पानी, और न ही कोई आभूषण या साज-सज्जा। गर्दन में जंजीरें हैं, सिर पर मार पड़ती है, और न तो कोई घर नजर आता है और न ही शरण। इस समय कोई संसाधन या साथी काम नहीं आते। केवल सच्चा मालिक ही सच्चा मित्र है, और यही अंतिम सत्य है। ||3||

हे बाबा, जो सच्चाई को समझते हैं, वे दुख में रोते और गुनगान करते हैं। माया से भ्रमित लोग मोह में रोते हैं; संसार के कार्यों में उलझे हुए लोग भी रोते हैं। इस प्रकार रोने से मन की गंदगी दूर नहीं होती; यह संसार एक स्वप्न की तरह क्षणभंगुर है। भ्रम में पड़े लोग, जैसे कोई बाजीगर अपनी चाल में उलझा हो, अहंकार में झूठे और खोए रहते हैं। वही प्रभु हमें सही मार्ग पर लगाता है और वही कर्म और उनके फल देता है। जो लोग नाम में रमे रहते हैं, उन्हें पूर्ण गुरु की कृपा से सुरक्षा मिलती है। नानक कहते हैं, वे सहजता और शांति में रहते हैं। ||4||4||

ਵਡਹੰਸ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਸਮਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਖੋਜ-ਭਾਲ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਾਣ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਜਦ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੋਈ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਤੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੰਧਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰ ॥

ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਏਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਨਿਰਾ ਅੱਧ-ਵਾਟੇ ਦਾ ਪੜਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਈਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਗਮੀ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਤਲਾਸ਼ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥ ਖੁਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਮਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪੁਆੜਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਫਾਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ-ਆਥਣ ਜਾਂ ਕਲ੍ਹ ਤਾਂਈਂ ਮੁਲਤਵੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਪਕੜਦੀ ਹੈ ॥

ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ, ਸੁੰਨਸਾਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਕਾਲਾ-ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹ ਦਿਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥ ਨਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ, ਰਜ਼ਾਈ ਤੇ ਗਦੇਲਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਬਰੰਗੇ ਖਾਣ ਉਥੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਉਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖੁਰਾਕ, ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਜੱਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਨਮਾ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਜ਼ੰਗੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਕੜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਦਾ ਬੂਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ) ॥ ਇਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਣੇ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ॥

ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ (ਵੈਰਾਗਮਈ ਹੋ) ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਰੌਦੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੰਝੂ ਕੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਠੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਰੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਸੁਫਨੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਜਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਾਪ-ਮੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਧੋਂਦੇ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਭਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਕਪਟ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਹਸਤ ਹੈ ॥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
