Guru Gobind Singh was the son of the Ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He was born at Patna Sahib, was brought to Punjab at the age of 5, and assumed Guruship at the age of nine. Gurudev patronized scholars and poets (with 52 poets in his court).
He founded the Khalsa Panth on Baisakhi in 1699 at Anandpur Sahib. His four sons gave their lives for the dignity and honor of the Khalsa Panth. The Guru compiled the final version of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1705 by including 115 verses of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, which is now known as Damdami Bir and is throned as the Living Guru of Sikhs.

3 The struggle of Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Gobind Singh had seen all that in his life, after seeing that a common man might deviate from his path or stagger but it did not happen to him. The martyrdom of great-grandfather Guru Arjan Dev, the war done by grandfather Guru Hargobind, Martyrdom of father Guru Tegh Bahadur, Eldest of his four sons (Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh) were martyred in the battle of Chamkaur and the younger two sons (Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh) were bricked alive in a wall by Wazir Khan, of valor and sacrifice. There are unique examples, Guru Gobind Singh struggled by staying firm in all these developments, it is not a common thing.
