Happy Bandi Chhor Divas 2025 and a Very Happy Diwali to all the Near and Dear Ones [ Dated 21 October 2025, Tuesday]. Bandi Chhod Divas commemorates the day when Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was released from Gwalior Jail along with 52 other Kings. Diwali is celebrated in memory of Lord King Rama's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

Bandi Chhor History in English and Punjabi.
According to Sikh Traditions, when Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was imprisoned in Gwalior Fort, he agreed to be freed only if the other Indian Chiefs imprisoned with him were freed. Under the pressure of moderator Hazrat Mian Mir, Jahangir had to pass the order 'Let those Rajas be freed who can hold on to the Guru's coattails and walk out of Prison.'
Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji asked for a special coat with 52 tails, so all the Rajas were freed. He became popularly known as Bandi Chhor "Deliverer from Prison". Guru Ji reached Harmandir Sahib on or near the day of Diwali that year and hence people welcomed their beloved Guru by lighting lamps just like they had been doing on Diwali. From that day onward, the day is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Divas.

ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਜਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
