Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheedi Diwas 2023
On the 15th of November 2023, the Sikh community worldwide will commemorate the Shaheedi Diwas, the Martyrdom Day, of the revered Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji. Born on January 27, 1682, in the village of Pahuwind, Punjab, Baba Deep Singh Ji's life became a saga of courage and commitment to the Sikh faith.
Baba Deep Singh Ji played a crucial role in Sikh history, standing against oppression and fighting for the principles laid down by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. After the passing of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Baba Deep Singh Ji joined Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in various battles, contributing significantly to the establishment of the first Khalsa Raj. Later, after the martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Baba Deep Singh Ji took on the responsibility of Jathedar (Chief) of Shaheed Misl.
The defining moment in Baba Deep Singh Ji's life came when the sacred Sarovar of Sri Harmandir Sahib was filled with mud by the invading forces. In an act of unparalleled determination, Baba Ji, along with 5000 Sikhs, marched towards Sri Amritsar Sahib. At the village of Gohlwarh, a fierce battle ensued, and Baba Deep Singh Ji, despite being mortally wounded, continued to wield his 18 Ser (of Weight) Khanda. His ultimate act of sacrifice occurred at the periphery of Sri Harmandir Sahib, where he offered his head to Guru Ji, attaining martyrdom.

ਜਦ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੇ, ਅਬਦਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਾ
ਉਹਦੇ ਲਹੂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ।
ਉਸ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਿਆ ਖੰਡਾ ਦੋ ਧਾਰਾ।
ਉਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ, ਦਸਮੇਸ਼ ਦੁਲਾਰਾ।
ਜਦ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੇ, ਅਬਦਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਾ
ਉਹਦੇ ਲਹੂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ।

ਫਿਰ ਚੱਬੇ ਦੇ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੱਚਿਆ ਘਮਸਾਣ।
ਕਿਤੇ ਨੇਜੇ ਤੇਗਾਂ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਬਾਣ।
ਕਈ ਸੌ ਗਏ ਨੀਂਦ ਸਦਾ ਦੀ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਜਹਾਣ।
ਲਹੂ ਡੁੱਲਿਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਲ਼ਹੂ ਲੁਹਾਣ।
ਲਾਹ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਆਹੂ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ,ਬਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਖੰਡਾ।
ਅੱਜ ਤੁਰਕਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬੁੱਕਦਾ,ਬਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਖੰਡਾ।
ਜਰਨੈਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰੁੱਕ ਦਾ ਬਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਖੰਡਾ।
ਅਬਦਾਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਟਦਾ, ਬਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਖੰਡਾ।
