Jap Ji Sahib is a revelation, which springs from the self-illumined heart, of Guru Nanak in direct and constant touch with the Eternal Reality, the One-in-All, and the All-in-One. The subject matter contained therein is beyond the reach of the human intellect and belongs in the stage of self-realization viz. the Realization of the Divine within. For any attempt to translate it, mere understanding of difficult words, and giving their meanings in simple language is not sufficient.
The Japji is one concise but sustained plea, for the adoption of practical everyday life, of that Hidden, but Real, Principle which we call the 'NAM and which springs in you- in the Holy of Holies the Heart within, when it is saturated with SIMRAN or Remembrance-DIVINE. Hence, this is called as the
JAP-NISAN, which means that the true indicator of our Simran is: Whether or not it has fructified into the HOLY NAME. The latter, it must be mentioned, is not a word of the dictionary, nor a 'Concept' - it is the Holiest, Abiding Principles, which when it comes, -stays on with you -and gives you a real peep into the Infinite.
