"By the Grace of the Lord-Sublime, Truth personified & attainable through the Guru's guidance. "

O, Lord! I was completely (drunk) over-powered by my (wine of) youthful beauty, though I am like a guest for few days only (in this world). I would offer myself as a sacrifice to You. I am like a discredited woman made filthy with vices and sinful actions as no virtues could be gained without the Guru's guidance. Thus this human being does not realize the value of virtuous deeds, being engrossed in whims and misgivings ( dual-mindedness) thus spending this life (Youth) in wasteful or fruitless efforts. This Man, though the Lord was abiding within his inner self, did not realize His Presence (without His glimpse) and did not gain any - knowledge of the Lord (Lord's secrets) by developing the Lord's love in his heart.

O, Nanak! I did not follow the right path by seeking the Guru's guidance and wasted this human life (the night of this age) in the darkness of ignorance. Thus I suffered the separation of the Lord spouse from childhood (from an early age) like a widow and did not enjoy the bliss of life (by winning in this life) without gaining the love of the Lord-spouse. (1)

O, True Master! May I be united with my beloved Lord- Spouse, as I am longing to gain acceptance of the Lord, having inculcated His love in the heart? I am like a slave (devotee) of the True Master; who is pervading everywhere including the four (Yugas) ages and the three worlds, which have been created by Him. The faithful (Guru-minded) person enjoys the unison of the Lord by imbibing His love while the faithless person is separated from the Lord-spouse like the wedded woman separated from her spouse. Thus the human being gets all his desires and hopes fulfilled whatever he has wished for, as the Lord is omnipresent and omniscient. Thus the Guru-minded person enjoys the bliss of the company of the Lord-spouse due to his love and devotion of the Lord without suffering His separation like a widow wearing dirty clothes having lost her spouse. O, Nanak! I have imbibed the love of the Lord-spouse, my True Master, who is ever-existent during the four ages (Satyug, Dwapar, Treta, and Kalyuga) emanating His light and love throughout. (2)

O, beloved Guru l May I be blessed with the boon of the Lord's love, so as to enjoy my stay in His presence (like the wedded woman enjoys in her inlaws place)! May I be enabled to follow the Lord's Will without a murmur (with pleasure) as His Will prevails throughout and cannot be altered by anyone? Human beings have to lead this life in accordance with the dictates of the Lord as predestined by the Lord's Will for all and the Lord's Will cannot be altered by anyone. The Lord is pervading throughout the three worlds and His True Name alone helps the human beings to prosper in life and enjoy a blissful life (like the members of a marriage party) by developing a love of True Name. On being separated from the Lord-spouse after enjoying His unison, I was deeply distressed with disappointment (like the woman getting separated from her spouse). O, Nanak! The devotee (Sikh), feels thrilled by reciting the Lord's True Name through the Guru's guidance, by seeking refuge at His lotus-feet and imbibing His love at heart. (3)

This human being does not pass through the cycle of births and deaths, once he is united with the Lord through the Guru's guidance, by reciting the True Name of the Lord and enjoying the bliss of His unison. The Sikh (human being) gets thrilled with the Lord's presence within and perceiving His glimpse enjoys the bliss of life through the Guru's guidance. The person, who has been enabled by the Guru to unite with the Lord by seeking Truth, and then honored and acclaimed everywhere for His virtues. Once he was united with the Lord due to his good fortune through ·the company of holy saints, he developed all the virtues through the Guru's guidance. Then this devotee develops a love for Truth and contentment by imbibing the love of the Lord, thus winning His acceptance, by speaking Truth only. O, Nanak! The person, who has united with the Lord through the Guru's guidance, does not suffer separation from the Lord being born again (and remains merged with the Lord). (4- 1)

रागु सूही छंत महला १ घरु १ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥जीव-स्त्री अपनी भरपूर जवानी में इस तरह रहती है जैसे वह मदिरापान करके मदहोश हो गई है।वह यह नहीं जानती कि वह अपने पीहर अर्थात् इहलोक में एक अतिथि है। वह अपने अवगुणों से अपने चित्त में मैली रहती है। गुरु के बिना उसके हृदय में गुण नहीं बसते।उसने गुणों की कद्र नहीं जानी और वह भ्रम में ही भूली हुई है। उसने अपना यौवन व्यर्थ ही गंवा लिया है।न ही उसने अपने वर (पति-प्रभु) को जाना, न ही उसका घर-द्वार देखा, और न ही उसका दर्शन किया है। उसे अपने प्रभु का सहज सुख नहीं भाया।वह अपने सतगुरु से पूछकर प्रभु के मार्ग पर नहीं चली। वह तो अज्ञानता की निद्रा में ही सोई रही और उसकी जीवन-रूपी रात्रि बीत गई है।हे नानक ! यूं समझ लो कि वह तो बाल्यावस्था में ही विधवा हो गई है और अपने पति-प्रभु के बिना वह मुरझा गई है। १॥

हे बाबा ! मुझे मेरे पति-प्रभु से मिला दो। मुझे अपना वर हरि बहुत भाता है, मैं तो उस पर ही कुर्बान हैं।वह चारों युगों में ही जगत् में बसा हुआ है, जिसकी वाणी तीनों लोकों–आकाश, पाताल एवं धरती में पढ़ी, सुनी एवं गाई जाती है।तीनों लोकों का मालिक, परमात्मा सुहागिन जीव-स्त्रियों से रमण करता है। लेकिन वह अवगुणों वाली जीव-स्त्रियों से दूर रहता है।जैसी किसी जीव स्त्री की अभिलाषा होती है, सर्वव्यापक परमात्मा उसकी वही अभिलाषा पूरी कर देता है।जो जीव-स्त्री हरि की पत्नी बन जाती है, वह सदा ही सुहागिन रहती है। वह न कभी विधवा होती है और न ही उसका वेष मैला होता है।हे नानक ! मुझे सच्या प्रभु बहुत भाता है, मेरा प्रियतम युग-युग में एक जैसा ही रहता है॥ २॥

हे बाबा ! मेरे विवाह का लग्न निकलवा लो, ताकि विवाह करवा कर मैं भी अपने ससुराल में जाऊँ।प्रभु अपनी रजानुसार जो हुक्म करता है, वही विवाह का लग्न होता है। उसका हुक्म कभी टल नहीं सकता।जो भाग्य में लिखा पड़ा है और जिसे करतार ने स्वयं लिख दिया है, उसे कोई टाल नहीं सकता।जो प्रभु तीनों लोकों में बसा हुआ है और जो सबसे निष्पक्ष है, वह स्वयं अपना वर नाम रखवा कर मुझ से विवाह करवाने आया है।परमात्मा रूपी दुल्हे से जीव-स्त्री दुल्हन के प्रेम को देखकर माँ रूपी माया निराश होकर रोती हुई दुल्हन से बिछुड़ गई है।हे नानक ! जीव-स्त्री गुरु के चरणों में लगकर प्रभु को याद करती रहती है और सच्चे शब्द द्वारा अपने प्रभु के महल में सुख भोगती रहती है॥ ३॥

मेरे बाबुल ने मेरा विवाह करके मुझे घर से दूर भेज दिया है। अब मैं अपने पीहर अर्थात् इहलोक में पुनः नहीं आती। मेरा प्रभु मुझ से रमण करता रहता है। मैं उसे अपने समक्ष देखकर प्रसन्न होती रहती हूँ और उसके घर में सुन्दर लगती हूँ। जब मेरे सच्चे प्रभु को मेरी आवश्यकता पड़ी है तो उसने मुझे अपने साथ मिलाया है। अब मैं पूर्ण बुद्धिमान एवं समरत जीव-स्त्रियों की प्रधान बन गई हूँ। संयोग से ही मेरा पति-प्रभु से मिलाप हुआ है। जिस स्थान पर मैं रहती हूँ, वह बड़ा ही सुखदायक है। गुरु के ज्ञान द्वारा मैं गुणवान बन गई हूँ। सत्य, संतोष एवं सदैव सत्य मेरे साथ रहता है। मैं सत्य बोलती हैं, जो मेरे प्रभु को बहुत अच्छा लगता है। हे नानक ! अब मैं अपने पति-प्रभु से बिछुड़ कर दुख प्राप्त नहीं करती और गुरु की शिक्षा द्वारा उसके चरणों में लगी रहती हूँ॥ ४॥ १ ॥
