ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜੈਸਾ

English Translation

O, Brother! (Jag Jivan Aisa Supne Jaisa...) This life in this world is like a dream while we have taken the Lord creator and our benefactor of all our joys and comforts, in fact, the fountainhead of all our benedictions, as a mere unreal dream. We have thus forsaken the Lord considering Him as an image but accepted this life as true and real or worthwhile with full faith. (1)

O, friend! The human being has engrossed himself in vicious thoughts and sinful actions, being under the sway of worldly falsehood and worldly pleasures; while our jewel of spiritual knowledge has been stolen by this Maya (falsehood); thus making us fully involved in the worldly pleasures of this falsehood (Maya) neglecting completely, the meditation of True Name. (Pause-1)

The foolish man does not realize the reality of this worldly fire (of desires) just as the moth gives up its life being enchanted by the brilliance of light, ignoring the fire behind its light, thus getting burnt in it. Similarly, this foolish man gets engulfed in the unreal love of gold, wealth, and the wife, and is lost in worldly, pleasures, totally forgetting the call of death. He does not remember the Lord as he does not see the approaching noose of the Yama (god of death). (2)

O, Kabir! Let us remember the Lord, ridding ourselves of the love of worldly falsehood (Maya) with proper considerations, as this alone could enable us to cross this ocean of life. This is worth understanding that it is only the knowledge of the Lord that could help us in crossing this ocean as the True Lord, protector of the world and our life-saver (giver) alone could lead us to the right path and there is none else in this world. (3-5-27)

 ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਅਸਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ (ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, (ਇਸ ਸੁਪਨ-ਸਮਾਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਢ ਦੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।1।

ਹੇ ਬਾਬਾ! ਅਸਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ-ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰੂਪ ਹੀਰਾ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।1। ਰਹਾਉ।

ਭੰਬਟ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੂਰਖ ਅੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ। (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਮੂਰਖ ਜੀਵ ਸੋਨੇ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।2।

ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ– (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ, ਉਹੀ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।3।5। 27।

आसा ॥ जग जीवन ऐसा सुपने जैसा जीवन सुपन समानं ॥ साच कर हम गाठ दीनी छोड परम निधानं ॥१॥ बाबा माय मोह हित कीन्ह ॥ जिन ज्ञान रतन हिर लीन्ह ॥१॥ रहाओ ॥ नैन देख पतंग उरझै पसु न देखै आग ॥ काल फास न मुगध चेतै कनिक कामिन लाग ॥२॥ कर बिचार बिकार परहर तरन तारन सोए ॥ कहि कबीर जगजीवन ऐसा दुतीअ नाही कोए ॥३॥५॥२७॥

आसा ॥ जगत में जीवन ऐसा है, जैसे कि एक स्वप्न होता है। यह जीवन एक स्वप्न के समान है परन्तु इसे सत्य मानकर हमने पकड़ लिया है और प्रभु नाम के परम खजाने को छोड़ दिया है। १॥ हे बाबा ! हम उस माया-मोह से इतना स्नेह करते हैं जिसने हमारा ज्ञान-रत्न छीन लिया है। १॥ रहाउ॥

नयनों से देखता हुआ पतंगा भी दीपक की लौ से उलझ जाता है। मूर्ख कीड़ा अग्नि को नहीं देखता। मूर्ख मनुष्य सोने एवं कामिनी (स्त्री) में मुग्ध होकर मृत्यु के फंदे का ख्याल ही नहीं करता॥ २॥

हे प्राणी ! तू सोच-विचार कर विकारों को त्याग दे, भगवान तुझे संसार-सागर से पार करवाने हेतु एक जहाज है। कबीर जी कहते हैं कि जगत का जीवन प्रभु इतना महान् एवं सर्वोपरि है कि उस जैसा दूसरा कोई नहीं ॥ ३॥ ५॥ २७ ॥
