ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਬਕਾਲਾ ਗਾਮ ਮੇਂ ਆਇਆਂ ਪਾਂਚ ਮਾਸ ਕੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਹੋਇ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅਰਦਾਸੀਏ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਾਥ ਬਾਂਧ ਬਚਨ ਕੀਆ, “ਮਹਾਰਾਜ! ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਬੱਸੀ ਜੀ ਦਿਲਵਾਲੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕੇ ਗੈਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ।” ਜੀ ਦਿਆਲਦਾਸ ਸੇ ਬਚਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਕੇ ਆਗੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਗੇ ਸੇ ਭਾਈ ਲਾਈਏ। ਭਾਈ ਦਿਆਲ ਦਾਸ ਬਚਨ ਪਾਇ ਦਿਲਵਾਲੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕੋ ਗੈਲ ਲੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਮੇਂ ਆਇ ਗਿਆ।
ਮਾਤਾ ਬੱਸੀ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸੁਲੱਖਨੀ ਨੇ ਆਗੇ ਆਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਪਰ ਬੰਦਨਾਂ ਕੀ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪਾਸ ਬਹਾਇ ਇਨ ਕੇ ਆਇ ਕਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਕੀਆ, ਪਰਸਪਰ ਮਾਤਮੀਂ-ਪਰਚਾਵਨੀ ਕੀ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਕਹਾ, “ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਅਮਿਟ ਹੈ, ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਦੇਖੋ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪ ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸੇ ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਦਈ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਅਜੇ ਬਕਾਲੇ ਗਾਉਂ ਮੇਂ ਹੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪੀਛੇ ਸੇ ਹਮੇਂ ਉਨ ਕੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਗਮਨ ਕਰ ਜਾਨੇ ਕੀ ਸੁਨਾਉਨੀ ਆਇ ਗਈ। ਦੇਖੀਏ ਪੀਛੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਹੋਇ ਚੁਕੇ ਹੈਂ—ਸਭ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਤਿ ਕਰ ਮਾਨਾ ਹੈ।” ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਕਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਇਨ ਕੋ ਧੀਰਜ ਦਈ, ਆਗੇ ਸੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਤਿ ਕਰ ਮਾਨਾਂ।
ਬਕਾਲਾ ਨਗਰੀ ਮੇਂ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਵਸ ਪਾਇ ਭਾਦਵ ਮਾਸ ਕੀ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਕਾ ਬੜਾ ਮੇਲਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਾਈ ਵਾਰਾ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆ ਰਹਾ। ਗੋਇੰਦਵਾਲ ਸੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰ ਅੰਸ ਬਾਬਾ ਅਰਜਾਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਏ, ਬੇਟੇ ਦਵਾਰਕਾ ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਗੈਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ—ਇਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਭਾਈ ਗੜ੍ਹੀਆ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਮੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਬਕਾਲਾ ਗਾਮ ਮੇਂ ਆਏ, ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਨੇਂ।
ਚਾਰੋਂ ਦਿਸਾ ਸੋ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਹੁਮ ਹਮਾਇ ਕੇ ਆਈਆਂ। ਕਾਈ ਕਿਸੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਵਾਲਾ, ਕਾਈ ਕਿਸੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ। ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਨਗਰੀ ਸੇ ਬਾਬੇ ਬੁੱਢੇ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਿੱਤਾ ‘ਰੰਧਾਵਾ’ ਆਇਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਚੱਕ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕੋ ਸਾਥ ਲੈ ਕੇ। ਕੀਰਤਪੁਰ ਸੋਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਦੀਪ ਚੰਦ ਆਇਆ ਨੰਦ ਚੰਦ ਭਾਈ ਕੋ ਸਾਥ ਲੈ ਕਰ, ਗੜ੍ਹਵਾਲ ਦੇਸ਼ ਸੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਜੀ ਆਏ ਇਨ ਕੇ ਗੈਲ ਭਾਈ ਬਹਿਲੋ ਕੇ ਕਾ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਆਇਆ। ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸੇ ਆਏ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਇਆ। ਸਰਬਤਰ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਚਾਵਨੀ ਕੀ।
ਮਾਤਾ ਬੱਸੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਬਿਰਧ ਬਾਬਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਰਜਾਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੋ ਨਿਕਟ ਬਹਾਇ ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸੋ ਆਈ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਕੀ ਵਸਤੂ ਮੰਗਵਾਇ ਲਈ। ਦੀਵਾਨ ਦਰਘਾ ਮੱਲ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਇ ਪਾਂਚ ਪੈਸੇ ਏਕ ਨਲੀਏਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਆਗੇ ਰਾਖ ਕੋ ਮਸਤਕ ਟੇਕਾ। ਬਾਬੇ ਬੁਢੇ ਕੇ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਿੱਤਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਦਾਇ ਹਾਥ ਸੇ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਕਾ ਟੀਕਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਤੇ ਲਾਇਆ।
ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਬਚਨ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਦਰਘਾ ਮੱਲ ਸੇ ਹੋਆ, “ਬੀਬੀ ਰੂਪ ਕੁਇਰ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੱਟ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਜਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਮਾਤਮੀ ਪਰਚਾਵਨੀ ਕਰਨੇ।” ਦੀਵਾਨ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੇਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਰਜਾਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਬਚਨ ਆਇ ਕਹਾ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕੀ।
ਧੀਰ ਮੱਲ ਬੇਟਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੁਰਦਿੱਤਾ ਜੀ ਕਾ, ਚਉਪਤ ਰਾਇ ਬੇਟਾ ਪੇਰੋ ਛਿੱਬਰ ਕਾ, ਸੰਗਤ ਬੇਟਾ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਉਪਲ ਕਾ, ਦਿਆਲ ਦਾਸ, ਮਨੀ ਰਾਮ—ਬੇਟੇ ਮਾਈ ਦਾਸ ਕੇ। ਜੱਗੂ ਬੇਟਾ ਪਦਮੇਂ ਕਾ, ਗੁਰਬਖਸ਼ ਔਰ ਨਾਡੂ—ਬੇਟੇ ਬਾਘੇ ਕੇ। ਮਤੀਦਾਸ ਸਤੀਦਾਸ ਬੇਟੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਗੈਲ ਆਏ।
ਸੰਮਤ ਸਤਰਾਂ ਸੈ ਇਕੀਸ ਭਾਦਵ ਸੁਦੀ ਦਸਮੀ ਕੇ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਚਾਵਨੀ ਕੀ। ਦੋ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ‘ਕੋਟ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਜੀ ਮੇਂ ਰਹੇ।

English Translation
19. Sakhi: The Coming of Mata Bassi Ji to Bakala and the Installation of the Tilak of Guruship upon Sri Tegh Bahadur Ji
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had been in the village of Bakala for nearly five months. One of the Sikhs who had come to make the customary prayer folded his hands and said, “Maharaj! Mata Bassi Ji has arrived from Delhi along with the Delhi congregation.” Guru Ji then gave instructions to Bhai Dial Das that he should go forward and bring the congregation into the Guru’s court. Following Guru Ji’s command, Bhai Dial Das went to meet the Delhi congregation and brought them into the Guru’s presence.
Mata Bassi Ji and Mata Sulakhni came forward and bowed at the feet of the True Guru. Guru Ji seated them near him and warmly received them. They exchanged words of condolence and comfort with one another. The True Guru said, “The will of the Formless One cannot be erased; it cannot be changed. Look, He Himself has sent us away from Delhi. We are still here in the village of Bakala, and yet news has already reached us that He has taken them from this world. Consider all the incarnations, sages, and ascetics who have lived in the past—they all accepted the will of the Creator as the truth.” With these words, the True Guru comforted them and encouraged them to accept what had happened as the will of the Divine.
A few days later, a great fair was held in the city of Bakala on the new-moon day of the month of Bhadon. It was so large that there seemed to be no end to the crowds. From Goindwal came Baba Arjani Sahib, of the lineage of Guru Amar, bringing his son Dwarka Das with him. Along with them came well-known Sikhs such as Bhai Garhia and others, all coming to Bakala to have the darshan of Guru Ji.
Sangat came from all four directions in great numbers. Each person came with his or her own devotion and hopes. From Ramdas Nagar came Baba Budha Ji’s brother, Gurdita ‘Randhawa’, bringing the congregation of Guru Chak with him. From Kiratpur came Baba Deep Chand, accompanied by Bhai Nand Chand. From the land of Garhwal came Sri Ram Rai Ji, and with him came Gurdas of the Bhai Bahlo family. All of them had darshan of the Guru’s family who had come from Delhi. Everyone met together and offered condolences and comfort to one another.
Mata Bassi Ji seated the elderly Baba Arjani Sahib near her and had the articles associated with the Guruship brought from Delhi. At Mata Ji’s command, Diwan Dargah Mal placed five coins and a coconut before Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and bowed his head before him. Gurdita Ji, the brother of Baba Budha Ji, then applied the tilak of Guruship to Guru Ji’s forehead with his right hand.
One day, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji said to Diwan Dargah Mal, “Bibi Roop Kaur has gone to the house where Guru Har Rai Ji is; go there to offer condolences for Guru Har Krishan Ji.” Diwan Ji first went to Sri Arjani Sahib and conveyed Guru Ji’s message to him. Everyone then made preparations.
Dhir Mal, son of Baba Gurditta Ji; Chaupt Rai, son of Pero Chhibber; Sangat, son of Kinne Uppal; Dial Das and Mani Ram, sons of Mai Das; Jaggu, son of Padma; Gurbakhsh and Nadu, sons of Bagha; Mati Das and Sati Das, sons of Hira Mal; along with other Sikhs and faqirs, all came with him.
On the tenth day of the bright half of Bhadon in Samvat 1721, everyone gathered together and offered condolences. The True Guru remained at Kot Guru Har Rai Ji for two days.
