English Translation

Bilawal Mahala 5th (Soi Maleen Deen Heen Jis Prabh......)

Brother! This foolish human being does not realize the Greatness and importance of the Lord-Creator and instead considers himself as the creator. This self-willed (faithless) person considers himself as distinct and separate from the Lord, whereas he forms (his soul) a part of the Prime-soul.
O True Master! The person who has forsaken and forgotten Your True Name is filthy, penniless, and without any honorable status in society. (1)

O True Master! Whenever we forsake You, (Your True Name) we are made to undergo a lot of suffering but we enjoy all the comforts of life whenever we remember You and recite Your True Name. That is why the holy saints always enjoy the eternal bliss (of life) as they continue singing the praises of the Lord. (Pause - 1)

O True Master! It is rather impossible for us to evaluate Your Greatness and might, as You are powerful enough and capable of bringing down the status of the highest and the mighty ones. At the same time, You are capable of bringing fame and honor to the lowly ones through Your Grace in no time and making them praiseworthy. (2)

Then the day of (facing) death for the faithless persons has come (near) and this world, which appeared like a dream earlier, has now (become) proved to be a dream only, as only our good deeds and virtues (like True Name) would accompany us. (3)

O Lord Almighty! You are the Lord-creator of this universe and we have sought Your support only. O Nanak! I would offer myself as a sacrifice to the Lord, and would recite the Lord's True Name, day and night. (all the time). (4-20-50)

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹੈ, ਨੀਚ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਹਸਤੀ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।੧।

(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉੱਚੇ (ਆਕੜਖਾਨ) ਤੋਂ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।੨।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਖੇਲ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ (ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਾਥ ਮੁੱਕਣਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਸਾਥ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।

ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੨੦।੫੦।

बिलावल महला ५ ॥ जिसने प्रभु को भुला दिया है, वही मलिन, गरीब एवं नीच है।
यह सृजनहार को नहीं बूझता, नासमझ स्वयं को बड़ा समझता है॥ १॥
जीवन में इन्सान तभी दुखी होता है, जब वह उसे भुला देता है।
लेकिन प्रभु को याद करने से वह सुखी हो जाता है।
संतों के मन में सदैव आनंद बना रहता है, क्योंकि ये नित्य भगवान् का गुणगान करते रहते हैं।॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

ईश्वर किसी को ऊँचे (राजा) से निम्न (भिखारी) बना देता है,
यदि उसकी मर्जीं हो तो वह क्षण में ही निम्न (रंक) को ऊँचा (राजा) स्थापित कर देता है।
ठाकुर जी के प्रताप का मूल्यांकन नहीं किया जा सकता ॥ २॥

खेल-तमाशे एवं रंग-रूप देखते ही जीव का दुनिया से विदा होने का दिन आ गया है।
यह जीवन एक सपना है और यह सपना ही बन गया है।
जीव का कमाया हुआ पुण्य एवं पाप ही उसके साथ गया है॥ ३॥

हे प्रभु! तू करने एवं करवाने में समर्थ है, इसलिए मैं तेरी शरण में आया हूँ।
नानक दिन-रात परमात्मा को ही जपता रहता है और उस पर सदैव बलिहारी जाता है। ॥ ४ ॥ २० ॥ ५० ॥
