English Translation

Slok Mahalla 3rd ( Nanak Navoh Ghuthia Halat Palat Sabh Jaye.. ) O Nanak! We are completely lost (robbed) in both worlds, without the support of True Name, as all our meditation and penance are finally wasted due to our vicious and sinful actions, being engrossed in dual-mindedness. Then we are taken to the gates of hell, caught in chains by the Yama (god of death), and face all sorts of punishments and sufferings. (1)

Mahalla 3rd: The persons, who are inimical to the saints or Guru-minded persons are friendly towards the sinners, devils, or demons, engrossed in sinful actions, do not have peace of mind either in this world or the next and undergo the cycle of births and deaths. They are completely lost in the love of worldly desires (worldly pleasures) and are dishonoured due to their dual-mindedness. They face a lot of disgrace in the Lord's Presence, due to their slander, and are taken around with blackened faces and disgrace.
O Nanak! Such sinners, devoid of True Name, get drowned in this ocean of life and can never safely reach this end or across to the other side. (2)

Paurhi: The Guru-minded persons, engaged in the recitation of True Name, are imbued with the love of the Lord. The persons, who have worshipped the Lord alone, with peace and concentration of mind do not worship anybody except the Lord. Such fortunate persons, pre-destined by the Lord's Will, serve the Lord and always sing the Lord's praises and help others to worship the Lord in the company of holy saints. Such Guru-minded persons are honoured and praised everywhere as they are immersed in the Lord, by reciting his True Name in the company of the Guru (and enjoy the bliss of life). (17)

श्लोक महला ३॥ हे नानक ! नाम को विस्मृत करने से मनुष्य का लोक एवं परलोक सब व्यर्थ चला जाता है। उसकी पूजा, तपस्या एवं संयम सभी छीन लिया गया है और उसे द्वैतभाव ने ठग लिया है। फिर यम के द्वार पर उसे बांधकर बहुत पीटा जाता है और उसे बहुत सजा मिलती है ॥१॥

महला ३॥ निन्दक व्यक्ति संतों के साथ बड़ा बैर रखते हैं लेकिन दुष्टों के साथ उनका बड़ा मोह एवं प्यार होता है। ऐसे व्यक्तियों को लोक एवं परलोक में कदापि सुख नहीं मिलता, जिसके कारण वे पीड़ित होकर पुनः पुनः जन्मते एवं मरते रहते हैं। उनकी तृष्णा कदापि नहीं बुझती और दुविधा में पड़कर ख्वार होते हैं। उन निन्दकों के सत्य के दरबार में मुँह काले कर दिए जाते हैं। हे नानक ! हरि-नाम से विहीन व्यक्ति को लोक-परलोक कहीं भी शरण नहीं मिलती ॥२॥

पौड़ी॥ जो व्यक्ति हरि-नाम का ध्यान करते हैं, वे अपने हृदय में भी हरि-नाम में मग्न रहते हैं। जो अपने मन एवं चित में एक ईश्वर की ही आराधना करते हैं, वे एक प्रभु के सिवाय किसी दूसरे को नहीं जानते। वही पुरुष भगवान की उपासना करते हैं, जिनके मस्तक पर प्रारम्भ से ही ऐसा भाग्य लिखा हुआ है। वे तो नित्य ही भगवान की महिमा गाते रहते हैं और गुणवान भगवान की महिमा गायन करके अपने मन को सीख देते हैं। गुरुमुखों की बड़ी बड़ाई है कि वे पूर्ण गुरु के द्वारा हरि-नाम में ही लीन रहते हैंil १७ ॥

ਸਲੋਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥ ( Nanak Navoh Ghuthia Halat Palat Sabh Jaye.. )
ਨਾਨਕ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ, ਇਨਸਾਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੈ-ਜਬਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੇ ਠੱਗ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥
ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਫਾਂਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥
ਦੂਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੁੰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਏਥੇ ਤੇ ਏਦੂੰ ਮਗਰੋਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਆਰਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ, ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਇਸ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ (ਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ) ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਲੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ (ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ) ਪਨਾਹ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥
ਜੋ, ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ॥
ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਐਸੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਆਲਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਣਵਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ ਮਹਾਨਤਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
