English Translation

Slok ( Tiakat Jalung Nah Jeev Meenung )

O, Nanak! The holy saints are immersed at the lotus-feet of the Lord and imbued with His love so much that they do not like (appreciate) anything else, just as the fish cannot exist without the company (presence) of water, or the toad ( Papiha ) cannot exist without the presence of the bursting clouds.

Similarly, the (body of the ) deer gets pierced with the hunter’s arrows on hearing the sound of the hunter’s drum and being completely absorbed in it or the black wasp gets enamored by the fragrance of flowers so that he loses his life by being enclosed within the flowers on sunset. (1)

O, Nanak! I would not develop a love for anything else, once I got a glimpse of the Lord’s Vision. The real-life (for saints) lies in uniting with the Lord, the true friend of the saints and they enjoy this life only by perceiving a glimpse of the Lord. (2)

Pour’i: The holy saints have developed such a love of the Lord and live only by perceiving His glimpse just as the fish cannot exist without the presence of water, or toad cannot live without receiving the rain-drop and the deer comes running to the hunter’s den on hearing the sound of the hunter’s drum, being enamored by it. Similarly, the black wasp gets caught in the flower, being enchanted by its fragrance. (12)

( Tiakat Jalung Nah Jeev Meenung ) ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੀਊ ਸਕਦਾ, ਹਰਨ ਰਾਗ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨਿ੍ਹਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਭੌਰੇ ਦੇ ਬੱਝਣ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ।੧।

ਜੇ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁਖ ਵੇਖ ਲਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਚਿੱਤ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ) ਨਾਹ ਜੋੜਾਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੀਊਣ ਦਾ ਜੋੜ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ।੨।

 ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਰੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ, (ਘੰਡੇਹੇੜੇ ਦੀ) ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਹਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਓਧਰ ਹੀ ਉੱਠ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਭੌਰਾ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫੁੱਲ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਫਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੧੨।

श्लोक ॥ ( Tiakat Jalung Nah Jeev Meenung ) जैसे जल को त्याग कर मछली जीवित नहीं रहती, जैसे एक पर्पीहा भी मेघ मण्डल को त्याग कर जीवित नहीं रहता, जैसे एक मृग सुन्दर नाद को श्रवण करके मुग्ध हो जाता है, जैसे भेंवरा फूलों की सुगन्धि के बन्धन में फंस जाता है। हे नानक ! वैसे ही सन्त-महात्मा प्रभु के चरण-कमलों में मग्न रहते हैं और उसके सिवाय उनकी किसी अन्य में कोई रुचि नहीं होती ॥ १॥

हे प्रभु ! यदि एक क्षण भर के लिए भी तेरे मुख के मुझे दर्शन हो जाएँ तो तुझे छोड़कर मैं अपना चित किसी दूसरे में नहीं लगाऊँगा। हे नानक ! वास्तविक जीवन तो उस मालिक-परमेश्वर के संगम में ही है, जो संतो-महापुरुषों का घनिष्ठ मित्र है॥ २॥

पउड़ी ॥ जिस तरह मछली जल के बिना जीवन प्राप्त नहीं कर पाती, जिस तरह एक पर्पीहा स्वाति बूंद के सिवाय कैसे तृप्त रह सकता है, जैसे एक मृग नाद को सुनकर आकर्षित होकर नाद की तरफ उठ दौड़ता है, भेंवरा पुष्पों की महक का लोभी है और पुष्प में ही फँस जाता है, वैसे ही संत-महापुरुषों की भगवान के साथ अटूट प्रीति है और उसके दर्शन प्राप्त करके वे आनंदित हो जाते हैं।॥ १२ ॥
