English Translation

Bilawal Mahala 5th ( Simrat Naam Kot Jatan Bhaye )

O, Brother! By reciting the True Name of the Lord, all other efforts of the Lord’s worship are automatically (included) covered up in this action, and all our functions get completed successfully. By singing the praises of the Lord in the company of holy saints, all our fear-complex of the Yama (god of death) has been cast away (Pause- 1)

I have performed all the necessary actions to get rid of my sins and have taken refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord by holding His hand, as all my fear of the cycle of birth and deaths including other whims and misgivings has been cast away (destroyed). All the horrible sins of the various ages (various forms of life) have also been eliminated. (1)

O, Brother! It is only a fortunate person, pre-destined by the Lord’s Will, who could gain this invaluable boon of True Name, so let us recite the True Name of the Lord, who is pervading everywhere equally without any fear. (or favor). O, Nanak! May the Lord bestow His Grace on all the human beings! Then I could also sing the praises and recite the True Name of the Lord, thus uniting with the Lord by merging with Him. ( 2- 17- 103)

सिमरत नाम कोट जतन भए ॥
साधसंग मिल हरि गुन गाए जमदूतन कउ त्रास अहे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
जेते पुनहचरन से कीन्हे मन तन प्रभ के चरण गहे ॥
आवण जाण भरम भउ नाठा जनम जनम के किलविख दहे ॥१॥
निरभउ होइ भजहु जगदीसै एहु पदारथ वडभाग लहे ॥

बिलावल महला ५ ॥ भगवान का नाम-सिमरन करने से करोड़ों ही यत्न पूरे हो गए हैं। जब संतो की संगति में मिलकर हरि का गुणगान किया तो यमदूत भी निकट आने से डरने लगे ॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

मनतन में प्रभु के चरण बसाने से जितने भी प्रायश्चित कर्म हैं, सब पूर्ण हो गए हैं। अब मेरा आवागमन, भ्रम एवं भय दूर हो गया है और जन्म-जन्मांतर के सब पाप जल गए हैं।॥ १॥

निडर होकर जगदीश्वर का भजन करो, यह नाम रूपी पदार्थ भाग्यशालियों को ही मिलता है। दास नानक प्रार्थना करता है कि हे पूर्ण प्रभु दाता ! ऐसी कृपा करो कि मैं तेरा पावन यश करता रहूँ ॥ २॥ १७॥ १०३॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਤੀਰਥ, ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਆਦਿਕ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਜਮਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣੋਂ) ਡਰ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਏ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਲਈ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਲਏ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਭਰਮ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਗਏ।੧।

(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ।੨।੧੭।੧੦੩।
